CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. -- The body of Erica Parsons has been found, according to a law enforcement source.

NBC Charlotte has learned the body was discovered in Chesterfield County.

Erica was reported missing by a relative on July 30, 2013. The relative advised investigators he had not seen Erica since November of 2011 when she was 13-years-old.

Erica's adoptive parents said the girl went to stay with relatives in the Asheville, North Carolina, area and had not seen her since. Sheriff’s Investigators determined that information was not true.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are currently serving federal prison sentences for fraud charges related to the disappearance of Erica. Sandy Parsons was convicted of 43 fraud charges at federal trial in October 2014 and Casey Parsons pled guilty earlier that same month.

The FBI, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations continued to follow leads related to the case. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also assisted in the campaign to publicize Erica’s disappearance with updated missing posters.

“Erica had not been seen by family members for more than a year and a half before anyone notified law enforcement. For that reason, finding Erica has proven to be a challenge, we’ve faced many obstacles, but we will not stop looking for this little girl. She deserves to be found, she deserves for someone to come forward and help us find her,” said Sheriff Kevin Auten.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI were offering a combined reward of up to $35,000 for information that leads directly to Erica.

We're working to learn more. Stay with WCNC.com

Ugh that poor fucking little girl. I'm glad they found her body. These two people are the worst most garbage people ever. I hate KevanVault's 'rip out their eyeballs and eat them in front of them' stuff but in this case with these two I might make an exception.

ETA: The 'dad' was the one who finally led them to the body.

Brooks said Sandy Parsons, under the watchful eye of prison guards, pointed to a shallow grave in a heavily wooded area off Blair Hendrix Rd, in between the towns of Pageland and Mount Croghan.

“The guards that were with him took him into the woods and within a minute they were coming back out, and he was crying when he came back out,” Brooks said.

A cadaver dog indicated on the spot where Erica Parson’s body was discovered, Brooks said. within 30 to 45 minutes, investigators began finding evidence.

missing teen’s body found last week

Rowan County Sheriff Kevin Auten said in a news conference Monday that he believes Erica Parsons was dead long before she was reported missing in 2013.

Parsons' remains were found last week in a shallow grave in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Auten said Parsons' adoptive father, Sandy Parsons, led detectives straight to the body.

Sandy Parsons and his wife Casey Parsons are currently in federal prison, serving sentences related to Erica's disappearance, but not to her death. Both are accused of collecting benefits meant for Erica, even after she was no longer with them.

Auten said a turning point in the case happened in July and August of this year, when Sandy Parsons began speaking with investigators from federal prison.

Auten said no one has been charged in Erica's death and also said Sandy was not offered any kind of plea deal or promise to lead investigators to the body.

"We're glad to have found Erica," Auten said. "We're going to get her to a good resting spot. And then we're going to continue to seek justice. We're going to see this case through and get it finished."

Auten said the case, which has now spanned multiple lead investigators over multiple years, took an emotional toll on everyone at the department.

"Everybody involved in this case has children," he said. "It touches you. I was there at the grave site when her body was recovered and I'll tell you there's some pretty tough officers that had a pretty tough time. It's worn on all of us."

Auten said he's hopeful that the full report from the Medical Examiner can provide more details into Parsons' death.

Girl missing since 2011 was tortured repeatedly before death, warrant says

A prison inmate who recently led investigators to the shallow grave of his adoptive daughter, who was missing since 2011 has admitted that the child was repeatedly tortured during the last years of her life, according to information in a warrant obtained by WBTV.
Investigators have conducted several interviews with Sandy Parsons since his conviction. According to the newly released warrant, Parsons admitted his "harsh treatment" of Erica.

"The treatment included, but was not limited to, locking Erica in a closet, beating her with a belt buckle, bending her fingers back and choking her," the warrant says.

UNC School of Medicine Dr. Cynthia Brown said Sandy Parsons’ treatment of Erica was "child torture."

The warrant says Sandy Parsons in August told investigator Chad Moose, with the Rowan County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office, that Erica was dead and he described the abuse and the disposal of her body.

The statements Sandy Parson made echo testimony given in his sentencing hearing in October 2013.

During that hearing, Erica’s adoptive brother Jamie Parsons, testified that nearly everyone in the family had abused Erica routinely, including himself, his parents and his sister, Brooke.

Jamie Parsons said his mother would often break Erica’s fingers by bending them backwards. She would then make her own cast for Erica’s fingers and would not get her medical treatment.

Jamie Parsons testified that his father would often get mad and punch Erica in the head with his fist.

Erica was often locked in a closet for hours at a time, Jaime Parsons said. He said there was no bed in the closet and she was forced to sleep on the floor.

Erica was not given access to a bathroom, Jamie Parsons said in court, and when his mother found out Erica had relieved herself in the closet, she would be beaten. He also said food was often withheld from Erica and she was forced to eat dog food out of a can.

Jamie said the last saw Erica in November 2011, she was standing in the corner being punished.

"She looked like a zombie," he said in court. He said her face was pale white and she told him that she "didn’t feel good, couldn’t breathe too good."

When Erica told her mother that she didn’t feel well, Casey Parsons reportedly told Erica to "shut the [expletive] up" and Jamie went to bed, he testified.

He said that Casey and Sandy weren’t home the next morning when he woke up. They didn’t return until later in the day and when they did, his father looked sick, "like he was about to throw up," and he didn’t talk. His mother looked normal, Jamie said.

Jamie says when he asked his mother where Erica was, she told him they took her to her grandmother’s house.

The Parsons continued to say they took Erica to a grandmother named "Nan" who lived in the Asheville area. Local law enforcement and the FBI said that "Nan" does not exist.

Despite an extensive investigation by the Rowan Sheriff’s Office, the SBI, and the FBI, no trace of Erica, dead or alive, was ever been found until Sandy Parsons began cooperating with investigators following his sentencing.

Can they charge them with child abuse resulting in death? I really don't want this bitch getting out of jail in 2024.

I would think they would charge her with additional charges. I don't think there was any kind of plea on her end that would limit her charges.

Erica Parsons’ body showed signs of long-term physical violence, autopsy shows

Bones will tell the story Erica Lynn Parsons’ killers thought they could silence.

The Rowan County teenager, reported to have disappeared in 2011, suffered more than a dozen broken bones over a prolonged period of time before dying and being buried in an unmarked grave in South Carolina, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh.

The examiner’s conclusion: Erica died of homicidal violence of undetermined means.

“Given the history of physical abuse, and signs of physical abuse present at autopsy, we cannot exclude the possibility of a terminal blunt force injury, suffocation or strangulation,” the report says.

The diminutive girl, adopted soon after birth by Casey and Sandy Parsons, was last seen by a pediatrician when she was 6. She started being home-schooled at the age of 7.

Family members said the Parsonses subjected Erica to repeated physical and emotional abuse through the years, including beating her with a belt buckle that broke the skin, choking and throwing her to the ground, slamming her hand in a door, bending her fingers all the way back and knocking out a tooth.

She was forced to sleep in a closet, sometimes fed dog food, and sometimes not fed at all, family members said.

The report said the girl’s remains had low bone density for her age and a pronounced growth deficit. She was malnourished.

All along, Erica’s adoptive parents were receiving payments from the state for the care of Erica, a special needs child, under the supervision of the Rowan County Department of Social Services.

Adoptive parents of Erica Parsons indicted for killing her and dismembering the body

Nearly seven years after Erica Parsons was last seen alive, her adoptive parents have been indicted in Rowan County for killing and dismembering the girl to hide their crime.

Sandy Parsons and his wife Casey Parsons are charged with first-degree murder, felony concealment of death and obstruction of justice for lying to North Carolina investigators.

No one knows for sure when Erica died, but it’s believed she was 12 or 13 at the time. The exact cause of her death is not listed in the indictment, other than to say the girl died of “homicidal violence.” Her remains were found in September 2016, and an autopsy determined the girl suffered terribly before she was killed.

The indictment, announced Tuesday, accuses the Parsons of carrying out a plot of murder and grisly concealment that included cutting the corpse into pieces.

Erica Parsons' Parents To Face Death Penalty In Murder Trial

Casey and Sandy Parsons are facing the death penalty and will go on trial for murder in the spring of 2020, they learned Thursday. The news comes one year after the Rowan County couple were charged with the brutal abuse, murder and dismembering of Erica Parsons, the young disabled girl they adopted.

Casey Parsons' murder trial will begin in April 2020, while no date has been finalized for Sandy Parsons trial, according to WSOC.

In February 2018, the couple was charged with first-degree murder, felony concealment of death and obstruction of justice when they lied to state investigators about their adopted daughter, Erica, who was homeschooled.

Investigators believe Erica was 12 or 13 when she died of "homicidal violence" after an autopsy concluded she "suffered terribly" before she died, the Charlotte Observer reported. Prosecutors say the girl, who was born deaf, was routinely abused and beaten by her adoptive parents, punished with starvation and locked in closets. An autopsy report said her death could have been from strangulation or the result of blunt force injuries suffered over the years, the newspaper said.

The adoptive father of a North Carolina teen who was missing for years before her body was found in South Carolina will go on trial for first-degree murder in April.

News outlets reported that a judge set the trial for Sandy Parsons to start on April 6, 2020.

His wife pleaded guilty in August to first-degree murder, serious child abuse, and concealing Erica Parsons' death. Casey Parsons was sentenced to life in prison.

    Sandy Parsons faces similar charges.

Both adults are serving federal prison sentences for keeping adoption assistance money for more than a year after Erica had disappeared from their home. She had last been seen alive in 2011, when she was 13.

An autopsy after her remains were found in 2016 showed Erica had suffered multiple broken bones.

After a nearly two-hour hearing and an account of the horrendous treatment of Erica Lynn Parsons on Friday, her adoptive mother pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and related charges in the 13-year-old girl’s death.

Casey Parsons, 44, will spend the rest of her life in prison without the chance of parole.

We missed this update in December.

    https://www.salisburypost.com/2019/1...e-obstruction/

Sandy Parsons, the adoptive father of Erica Lynn Parsons, will serve a minimum of 33 years in prison for his role in her death.

On Tuesday, Sandy sat between his attorneys, Vincent Rabil and Tom King, wearing a suit and tie, unlike the orange Rowan County Jail-issued jumpsuit he’d worn in previous hearings, as he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, concealment of death and child abuse.

His plea comes four months after his wife, Casey Parsons, accepted a plea for her role in Erica’s death and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. His plea came exactly eight years after Erica’s death, though she was reported missing two years after her disappearance,

Both Sandy and Casey were facing the death penalty had they been convicted during a trial.

While Sandy accepted a lesser plea deal, Casey previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Both are in the middle of serving federal prison sentences for mail fraud and other offenses for continuing to accept adoption assistance and other benefits while Erica was no longer in their care.
On Tuesday, Sandy was sentenced to 207 to 261 months for second-degree murder, which will be served at the expiration of his current federal sentence, of which he has three years left. He was ordered to serve 96 to 128 months for felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury to be served at the expiration of the second-degree murder sentence. He will serve 84 to 113 months for concealment of death to be served at the expiration of the child abuse charge. He will also serve 10 to 21 months in prison for obstruction of justice that he’ll serve at the expiration of the concealment of death charge.

The total prison sentence is 33.08 to 43.58 years. The earliest Sandy would be eligible for release from prison would be at the age of 82.

Sandy’s sentence issued Tuesday was not an agreed-upon plea between the involved parties; it was determined by Superior Court Judge Lynn Gullett.

A statement provided to the Post by Rowan District Attorney Brandy Cook said her office considered several factors in considering whether to move forward with a plea, including:

    • The state’s evidence showing Casey is the more culpable party and was the primary person who committed repetitive, physically abusive acts and excessive punishment on Erica and that she is spending the rest of her life in prison.

    • Sandy was eventually cooperative with law enforcement and agreed to lead law enforcement to Erica’s remains without any agreement by the the Rowan County District Attorney’s Office. Without Sandy’s cooperation, it is highly unlikely that Erica’s remains would have been located, Cook said. Any successful prosecution would have been extremely difficult, she said.

    • After Sandy was indicted, he continued to cooperate with law enforcement and expressed a willingness to testify truthfully against the co-defendant, Casey, if asked to do so.

    • Sandy worked outside of the home while Casey stayed at home with the children.

    • The children of Sandy and Casey, who lived in the home with Erica, have also been significantly impacted. A plea, Cook said, helps prevent further traumatization of the children having to re-live events surrounding Erica’s death and potentially testifying against their own father in a murder trial.

    • The plea helps alleviate an appeal process, which could on for decades.

    • The plea, Cook said, was supported by Sheriff Kevin Auten, Capt. Tim Wyrick and Lt. Chad Moose, all of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Carolyn Parsons, Erica’s biological mother.

Yeah. Someone intent on doing the same thing to them that they did to little Erica.

Because they fucking deserve not a goddamn bit less.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Now go fuck yourself.
