Ex-Volusia teacher sentenced to prison for having sex with eighth-grader

    VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —
A former middle school teacher in New Smyrna Beach was sentenced to prison Wednesday for having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Stephanie Peterson was sentenced to 36 months for lewd and lascivious molestation and credited with credit for time served for the transmission of harmful materials to a minor.

After serving her three year sentence, Peterson will be on sex offender probation and be required to register as a sex offender.

In addition to the sexual relationship, investigators said Peterson had also sent the student nude photos.

During the sentencing hearing Wednesday a psychologist testified that Peterson was in the midst of an acute manic state from her bipolar disorder at the time she was having sex with the New Smyrna Beach Middle School student.

The victim's mother said when Peterson abused her son, she changed him forever.

"My child is gone, his innocence stole from him at barely 14 years old by someone he trusted so much. We are left with a completely different child."

The psychologist testified that there was a very low risk that Peterson would reoffend. The doctor said Peterson’s motivation in the irrational relationship was more a desire for attention then sexual gratification.

"Sorry doesn't even begin to sum up my emotions," Peterson said. "Every day of my life I wake up and ask myself 'What have you done?' Every day I pray I will be forgiven. Every day I fight with the remorse and shame I feel inside. Every day I wish I could scream I'm sorry."

Prosecutors said during the hearing that Peterson used drugs and alcohol in front of the victim, and that she used those items to manipulate and sexually abuse the victim.

Brittany Zamora, a former sixth-grade teacher from Arizona arrested last year on suspicions she was having sex with her 13-year-old student, told cops she was afraid of going to jail because the other inmates would ?tear me apart,? newly released police bodycam video shows.

The footage, obtained by KPNX in Phoenix, shows the moment Zamora, 28, was taken into custody in Goodyear, as well as her initial interview with investigators.

?I?m little. They?re going to tear me apart,? she sobbed while pondering life behind bars.

After arriving at the police station, a handcuffed Zamora asked an officer, "Can you put my hair in front of my face?? as she approached a pool of reporters who had gathered for her perp walk.

Then, in an interrogation room, an investigator asked her "why it happened," at which point Zamora asked for an attorney.

The former teacher at the Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear was arrested after the alleged victim?s parents discovered messages between the two. Documents reveal that Zamora and that victim began chatting in a class chatroom called ?Class Craft,? according to a prior KPNX report.

?OMG, I love you,? Zamora allegedly wrote in one text.

?Omg lol you?re so cute baby. I wish you could?ve stayed after with me,? read another alleged message.

Zamora also allegedly sent nudes to the boy. Later, the teen told police that he and Zamora had at least four sexual encounters. In one incident, Zamora allegedly assaulted the boy in her car after a talent show, according to KPNX.

The newly released footage also shows the boys? parents talk to detectives. His mother explained, ?And so my husband just told him, ?Have you done anything with your teacher? Did you have sex with your teacher?? And he said yes."

The father lamented that his son?s childhood is ?already gone.?

The footage also shows Zamora?s husband defending Zamora to investigators.

?She?s a good person, the best person I?ve ever know,? he said.

The parents filed a lawsuit last month against the school district and Zamora's husband, seeking $2.5 million in damages, claiming that both knew of the allegations for a month before they did, according to Arizona Family.

Before her arrest, the teen?s parents called the teacher in a recorded phone call, according to KPNX. During that conversation, she allegedly apologized and could not explain the abuse.

?I ask myself the same question,? Zamora allegedly told them. ?I just got really close after I think everything went down and we?re like, ?How could that happen?? ? We just got close.?

Zamora has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including felony sexual conduct with a minor and molesting a child. She?s due back in court in May.

A former Christian school teacher from Oregon who was caught having sexual relations with a teen boy by her husband has been sentenced to serve 20 months behind bars.

Andrea Nicole Baber, 30, received the sentence on Friday after pleading guilty one month prior to rape and contributing to the sexual delinquency for having sex with a student in Springfield last year, local outlet Register-Guard reports.

She took a plea deal, and in turn, numerous other charges including sodomy and providing marijuana to a minor were dropped.

Baber was arrested in late 2017 after being accused of having sexual relations with a 17-year-old student for over a year. The abuse reportedly began when the victim was just 15.

Baber’s husband reportedly walked in on her and the student in the couple’s bed, according to The News-Review in 2017. His wife was partially unclothed. However, husband wasn’t the only one who found out something was suspicious prior to the former teacher's arrest.

The victim’s parents also reportedly received an email from an anonymous tipster. It asked the parents if they were aware their son was in a sexual relationship with Baber, according to Fox News. Photographs of the teacher and their son pictured together in Baber’s bed were attached to the email. That concerning message prompted the victim’s dad to call the police.

The victim reportedly told police that he had sex with his teacher at least once a week at her home. He also claimed that Baber supplied him with alcohol and marijuana from time to time.

Baber has since been fired from her job teaching English at Logos Christian Academy, where she met the victim.

She will now be registered as a sex offender.

    Here is More

An Arizona student who says teacher Brittany Zamora asked him to stand guard while she and his 13-year-old friend groped one another in their classroom described her as “not a good person” during a recently released police interview.

Police in Goodyear released recorded interviews with both boys detailing the then-27-year-old Zamora's alleged inappropriate behavior.

“I was one of the witnesses, one of the people that saw Ms. Zamora and my friend … touch each other,” the second boy said, adding that he was told to keep the whole thing secret, according to News 12.

He found it hard to recollect what exactly he experienced, according to the Arizona Republic, mixing up the word “vagina” with “Virginia” during the course of his police interview.

“They were just doing it,” the friend said. “It was very uncomfortable.”

The pair apparently asked the boy to stand watch again the following day, but he said he left and didn’t do so. Afterward, the victim told him that he had sex with Zamora.

“It’s, like, weird how a 27-year-old can, like, love a 13-year-old and do stuff,” the boy told police, according to the Arizona Republic. “It’s just crazy. She’s not a good person.”

The second student also detailed an exchange he had with Zamora.

“Ms. Zamora asked if my thing was, um … uncircumcised or circumcised, and I didn’t know what that means, so Ms. Zamora went on her phone and looked up uncircumcised and circumcised,” the boy said, according to News 12.

Their conversation stopped because it was time for recess, the Arizona Republic reports.

The second boy also told authorities that rumors swirled around the school about Zamora and his friend's alleged relationship in January 2018, several months before she was ultimately arrested, according to the Arizona Republic. Some students went as far as saying that the student impregnated Zamora.

Zamora was arrested last year after the boy's parents discovered steamy text message exchanges between the two.

She was charged with eight counts of sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of child molestation and one count of transmitting obscene material. Zamora pleaded not guilty to the charges, and is due back in court in May.

Secret classroom kisses, under-the-desk fondling, late-night car hook-ups: These are a few of the inappropriate encounters a 13-year-old has alleged he and his teacher Brittany Zamora took part in over the course of their month-long illicit affair, according to newly released police interviews.

Goodyear police released recorded interviews with the unnamed victim this week, in which he details how his alleged sexual relationship with the then-27-year-old Zamora began and how it quickly escalated, according to local NBC affiliate News 12.

“The first time we kissed, like I was saying bye to her and I gave her a hug and she, like, started kissing me, so I kissed her back,” the student said of their first illicit classroom exchange, according to News 12.

The victim revealed that he and Zamora eventually graduated to feeling one another up in the classroom, as well as talking at length about the types of sexual acts they wanted to perform on one another.

“She said she wanted to give me a blowjob and my stuff is really big and stuff like that,” the boy told police, according to the Arizona Republic.

The boy also said that Zamora “touched his stuff” at her desk while she feigned searching for things as fellow students worked on a school project, the paper reports.

He also sent her love letters and sexual notes on Post-Its, according to police photos seen by the Arizona Republic.

Eventually, the student said Zamora sent him a naked photo of herself, as well as another in which she’s in lingerie, while he reciprocated with a naked picture of himself, according to the Arizona Republic.

Spencer, who deputies said is a Callaway High School teacher, is accused of inappropriately touching a female student several times since the beginning of this school year.

They launched an investigation and talked with an educator who the student reported the information to, the victim, and other students.

Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Spencer and Columbus Police took her into custody. She was transported to the Troup County Jail.

11Alive reached out to the Troup County School District and asked if Spencer was still employed. A spokesperson said anytime an employee is being investigated, they are removed from the classroom.

    Below is the full statement:

"We care about our students; they are our top priority. We take any allegations of misconduct seriously. Anytime an employee is under investigation they are removed from the classroom. As this is considered an ongoing investigation, this is all the information we can provide at this time."

Here is one scandal under fire Heidi Domangue Verret will not go to Prison

A former substitute teacher who pleaded guilty to having sex with underage teens in Terrebonne Parish is not going to jail. Instead, 34-year-old Heidi Domangue Verrett could soon be headed back to the classroom thanks to a plea deal she signed in Houma.

As part of the deal, Verret pleaded guilty to having sex with three underage teenagers and sending lewd messages to child under the age of 13 between Oct. 1, 2016, and Nov. 30, 2016. Verret worked as a substitute teacher at Terrebonne public schools at the time, although the records do not state that the acts took place on school grounds.

When she was arrested in 2016, Verret faced three felony charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of incident behavior with a juvenile. Under the plea agreement, the charges were reduced to three misdemeanor counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The plea also bans Verret from teaching for two years. After that, she has no restrictions on residency or employment because she did not have to register as a sex offender.

A representative for Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joseph Waitz Jr. said he was not available for an interview regarding the deal, or to send an official statement. However, the office did put WDSU in touch with Dennis Elfert, the assistant district attorney handling the case.

Elfert said the deal was made after receiving input from the victims and their families. He said he reached out to the Terrebonne Parish School Board to ensure that Verret would never be rehired. He also said that she would not likely be hired at other school districts because a background check would reveal the Terrebonne conviction.

Philip Martin, superintendent of Terrebonne Schools, said that the district would never hire anyone with Verret’s background.

Verret will avoid jail time under the agreement. Judge John Walker suspended Verret’s six-month prison sentence. She will be on unsupervised probation for two years, instead. Verret was also ordered to pay $900 in fines plus court costs.

Sarah Elise Porter detained on assault and harassment allegations

A 24-year-old Arapahoe High School teacher and coach was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student, the result of an investigation initiated by an anonymous tip to police.

Arapahoe County Sheriff's OfficeSarah Elise Porter
Sarah Elise Porter, a Spanish teacher and track coach at the school in Centennial, is facing charges of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust and sexual exploitation of children/pornography/obscene material, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Porter is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student she was coaching, according to arrest documents.

A student reported the tip through Safe2Tell, which stated that a student and teacher had kissed in an office with the lights off, according to arrest documents.

Safe2Tell allows students across the state to report tips about threats anonymously.

Interviews revealed that Porter allegedly started sending messages and photos to a student she was coaching via Snapchat. She later allegedly forced herself upon the student, threatening him if he resisted — but was interrupted by messages from a coach possibly about a meeting, according to an interview in the arrest affidavit.

The student victim told investigators that Porter sent him nude photos and videos of herself masturbating.

The head track coach confronted Porter after the report, according to the documents, and she told him she had sent revealing photos to a student while wearing a tank top.

A clinical social worker reported to police that Porter told her she had physical contact with a student athlete in her office and that “they did everything leading to it” but did not have sex.
Porter was booked on a no-bond hold on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office, and she was scheduled for a first appearance in court on Monday morning.

    Raquel Elena SPencer Convicted

A former Northwest Whitfield High School teacher has been sentenced to 10 years with 120 days of detention and the rest on probation after pleading guilty Friday to sexual assault by a person with supervisory and disciplinary authority, according to the Whitfield County clerk of court's office.

Raquel Eleana Spencer must serve 90 to 120 days in a probation detention center, a highly-structured, minimum security facility that provides counseling, life skills classes and substance abuse counseling. She must also pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs and surcharges, perform 300 hours of community service and observe all sex offender special conditions of probation.

A second charge against her, for possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance, was dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Spencer was an English teacher at Northwest. She resigned after being arrested at the school on April 25 of last year for possession of heroin after school officials notified the sheriff's office she appeared to be under the influence.

She was indicted by a Whitfield County grand jury last year. According to one indictment, Spencer had sexual intercourse with a student who attended the high school, "with supervisory and disciplinary authority over (the) individual." The indictment specified the relationship as between Oct. 1, 2017, and April 8, 2018. During the investigation into the heroin, the sexual relationship with the student was discovered through a search of her phone.

Whitfield County Schools Superintendent Judy Gilreath said Friday afternoon she did not know enough about the details of the case to say whether the sentence was fair.

"But I do hope that she gets the treatment and help she needs," Gilreath said.

District Attorney Bert Poston and Spencer's attorney did not immediately return telephone messages left at their offices Friday afternoon.

Laura Lynn Cross is sued for raping a student.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A former student who had a child with his teacher in 2015 filed suit Monday against Akron and Tallmadge school officials for failing to stop the abuse.

The suit also listed former teacher Laura Lynn Cross as a defendant.

The suit states that administrators failed to “prevent adult Laura Lynn Cross from sexually abusing, assaulting, and raping the Plaintiff, a student and a minor.”

Cross served prison time at the Ohio State Reformatory for Women in Marysville after having been convicted of three counts of sexual battery. She has since been released from prison.

Cross resigned from her teaching position in 2015 following allegations of sexual abuse of a student. According to an investigation by Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland, Cross convinced the student’s mother to allow him to move in with her through a court-approved “partial parental custody” arrangement.

In 2015, charges were filed after it came to light that the former student fathered Cross’ child.

The teen’s father previously said that he notified his son’s school district about the allegations when his son was a freshman in 2012.

The lawsuit claims that school administrators knew about Cross’ relationship with the student going back even farther.

“It was well-known within these school systems and ignored, that Defendant Laura Lynn Cross was sexually abusing, assaulting, and raping the Plaintiff from as early as 2009, when he was only a sixth grader, all the way up until his graduation from Tallmadge High School in 2016,” the suit states.

The lawsuit, filed in Summit County Court of Common Pleas, states that administrators failed to prevent the repeated rape and sexual abuse, despite claims from the former student’s father that it was happening.

The suit states that the former student has “suffered severe and permanent physical, psychological and emotional damage as a result of these failures.”

The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $25,000.

Deidre R. Smith, 34 Under investigation for raping a 10 year old student

A Sulphur, La. teacher has been charged for allegedly raping a 10-year-old student, according to information from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deidre R. Smith, 34, was jailed Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape and felony indecent behavior with a juvenile. She was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.

Investigators say they received a complaint that the Lake Charles Charter Academy educator was possibly having an "inappropriate relationship" with a 10-year-old student.

"It was also learned that Smith had sexual intercourse with the victim," the department said in a news release.

Apparently the victim is a 10 year old boy in the Deidre R. Smith rape allegations.

A teacher at a public charter school in Louisiana has been charged with raping a 10-year-old boy, deputies said.

Deidre R. Smith, 34, was arrested Tuesday on charges of first-degree rape and felony indecent behavior with a juvenile after investigators from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office got a tip on April 30 from an administrator at Lake Charles Charter Academy regarding a teacher at the school.

The complaint indicated that an educator was “possibly having an inappropriate relationship” with one of her students. A subsequent investigation revealed that Smith had ongoing physical contact with the boy, including sex, since the end of last year, deputies said Wednesday.

The case remains under investigation and more charges are likely. Smith, who has been released after posting $50,000 bond, declined to comment when reached early Thursday by The Post.

A spokesperson for the school said in a statement that the alleged incident involved only one student.

“While we are not at liberty to discuss personnel issues, please be aware that we do not tolerate any behavior that compromises our safety standards and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement to assure a thorough investigation is completed,” the statement read. “We believe this was an isolated incident and no other students were involved.”

The school’s president, meanwhile, said in a statement Tuesday that the allegation had not yet been verified.

“If verified that teacher will be subject to termination,” Judge Ulysses Gene Thibodeaux said in a statement to KPLC. “The safety and security of our students and staff are our top priority.”

The alleged incident took place off campus, Thibodeaux said.

“Once the allegation was reported, the school promptly took steps to contact authorities who are now conducting the investigation,” Thibodeaux’s statement continued. “The investigation is incomplete and ongoing.”

Lindsay M. Halstead accused of raping a student and harassment.

SENECA FALLS, NY (WROC) -- A student says his former teacher used SnapChat to talk him into a sexual encounter in Seneca Falls last year.

The teacher, Lindsey Halstead, was arrested this week and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and sexual misconduct.

In court documents, the victim says Halstead was his gym teacher at Waterloo High School but she left for a new job at Midlakes in 2018. After taking that job, the student says Halstead added him on SnapChat weeks later.

Using the app, the student said Halstead sent him nude photos and asked him if he was "going to send her something."

On SnapChat, the student says Halstead made plans to meet up in early November. The student says she picked him up in her SUV at the library and drove to a spot behind the Hampton Inn where the two had sex in the backseat of her vehicle.

Afterward, the 16-year-old boy says Halstead was upbeat but, "I was pretty quiet and I just said a few words."

The boy later blocked her on SnapChat but he says she began harassing him on Instagram and he blocked her there too. The student says Halstead was asking if he had told anyone.

Halstead worked at Waterloo for about four years and served as a sub in Midlakes between February 2018 until she was fired in April 2019.

Troopers are still investigating the case and say further charges could be filed. Anyone with any information on Halstead is asked to call State Police in Waterloo at (315)-539-3530.

SENECA FALLS, N.Y. -- A 16-year-old boy told New York State Police that his former gym teacher at Waterloo High School sent him nude photos on SnapChat before making a plan and meeting up for sex, according to records filed in Seneca Falls Town Court.

Lindsey M. Halstead, 29, of East Bloomfield, was charged Tuesday with two counts of sexual misconduct and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, troopers said.

Halstead was a physical education teacher in the Waterloo Central School District for about four years from September 2014 to February 2018. After leaving Waterloo, Halstead worked as a long-term substitute teacher for Midlakes Schools until she was fired, troopers said.

The teen was interviewed by state police on May 6 about the alleged incident that happened in November 2018. The teen told troopers that Halstead was his gym teacher during the 2017-18 school year.

Halstead reached out to the teen on SnapChat in September 2018 while she was working in the Midlakes Schools, the teen told police. After talking for a few weeks, the teen said Halstead started sending him nude photos, according to his statement to police filed with the court.

The two made plans to meet up, the teen told police. Halstead picked him up from the library in Waterloo and they parked behind the Hampton Inn in Seneca Falls where the two had sex in Halstead’s vehicle, he told police.

Afterwards, the teen said Halstead kept contacting him, so he blocked her on SnapChat and Instagram.

“At this point I was like this is weird, why is she still texting me,” he told police.

Halstead was charged with one count of sexual misconduct for engaging in oral sex with teen and one count of sexual misconduct for having sexual intercourse with the teen, according to court records.

A state police spokesman Tuesday contacted by Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard said police think there may be more victims. Police released her mug shot in case other victims would recognize her.

“The investigation is continuing,” troopers said in a news release, “and additional charges are pending.”

Troopers asked anyone with information about the case to call (315)-539-3530.

A former Ohio middle school teacher convicted last year of having sex with a student has been released from prison and must now register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

Jessica Langford, 33, was released from the Ohio Reformatory for Women on Tuesday, having completed her one-year prison sentence, the Dayton Daily News reports.

Langford, formerly a teacher at Miamisburg Middle School, was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy in a locked classroom on the last day of school in 2017. She was convicted of unlawful sexual conduct and sexual battery and sentenced in June to one year in prison as well as five years of probation. A judge also ruled that, in addition to giving up her teaching license, she be required to register as a sex offender.

Langford is said to have befriended the child during a class trip to Washington, D.C., according to another report from the Dayton Daily News. While testifying during the trial, the teen said that Langford added him on Snapchat after the trip, and he expressed a desire to have sex with her; she later arranged for him to meet her in a classroom on May 23, 2017, before the start of classes, at which point they “started kissing and it escalated from there,” the student said.

The teen told the court that they had sex “for about 20 to 30 minutes” but were interrupted when the principal knocked on the door, at which point, Langford told him to hide under the desk and “stick to the story” that he was in her classroom because he was helping her stack chairs and desks, he said. The child initially denied that anything had happened, but eventually confided in his father, a police officer.

Langford pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual battery and three counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, but a jury found her guilty last April after about 90 minutes of deliberation, according to the outlet.

The former teacher was released this week, with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction confirming to the Dayton Daily News that she had no reports of negative disciplinary action to her name during her time served.

Now that she’s been released, Langford must now begin registering as a Tier III sex offender, a classification that the Montgomery Counter prosecutor’s office described as the “most serious” of the state’s classification regarding such crimes, according to the outlet. Offenders in that category are required by law to notify the sheriff in whatever county they live in of their home address and place of employment, or school, every three months, for the remainder of their lives, a spokesperson for the office said.

Prior to the end of her sentence, Langford tried twice to secure an early release, once in August and again in December, the Dayton Daily News reports, citing court records. In her pleas, she claimed that she’d been a “model prisoner” and was needed at home to support her family, which included a young daughter and a sickly mother, but prosecutors fought those requests and claimed that Langford repeatedly failed to take responsibility for her actions.

A former Miamisburg teacher convicted last year of a having sex with a middle school student in her classroom is out of prison and required to register as a sex offender.

Jessica Langford, 33, was released Tuesday, completing a one-year sentence in the Ohio Reformatory for Women with no misconduct reports, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The Centerville woman was convicted by a jury in April 2018 on three counts each of sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He was on the stand for more than an hour and gave a detailed account in affirming the state’s case.

A former teacher has pleaded guilty to repeatedly molesting one of her sixth grade students.

Brittany Zamora, 28, took a plea deal Monday, admitting guilt to sexual conduct with a minor, attempted molestation and public sexual indecency, the Arizona Republic reports.

She was arrested last year while teaching at Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear after the parents of one of her sixth grade students found disturbing texts on his phone.

“OMG, I love you,” one alleged text from the teacher to the victim read, according to documents obtained by KPNX in Phoenix. In another, she allegedly wrote, “Omg lol you’re so cute baby.”

She and the 13-year-old student began chatting on an online instruction app called Class Craft.

Zamora was also accused of sending nudes to him. Later, the teen told police that he and Zamora had at least four sexual encounters in 2018 including once in her car after a talent show. During another incident, she allegedly asked another student to stand guard so she could make out with the victim at school while they prepared for said talent show, the Arizona Republic reported.

Zamora apparently got even bolder too. That report states that the two would touch each other sexually in the classroom as the students watched videos.

Earlier this year, police released recorded interviews with both the victim and the boy she asked to stand guard.

“I was one of the witnesses, one of the people that saw Ms. Zamora and my friend … touch each other,” the friend said, adding that he was told to keep the whole thing secret, according to News 12 in Phoenix.

Before her arrest, the victim’s parents called the teacher in a recorded phone call, according to KPNX. During that conversation, she apologized and could not explain the alleged abuse.

“I ask myself the same question,” Zamora told them. “I just got really close after I think everything went down and we’re like, ‘How could that happen?’ … We just got close.”

She also pleaded for her life to not be destroyed.

“I don’t want to say stuff and have me recorded right now and bring this to court and have me go to jail for the rest of my life,” she said.

She may very well spend a lot of time behind bars. Of the counts she pleaded guilty to, the sexual conduct with a minor charge lone can result in up to 27 years in prison. Her sentencing has been scheduled for July 12.

In addition to criminal consequences, the victims parents have also filed a civil lawsuit against Zamora, her husband and the school district, seeking $2.5 million in damages. The lawsuit contends that the school did not properly monitor conversations between teachers and students on the Class Craft app. It also alleges that three students complained in written statements about their teacher’s relationship with the victim, complaints the school allegedly ignored.

"We did investigate," Richard Rundhaug, the school district's interim superintendent, told the Arizona Republic in a previous interview about the case. "We determined there were some elements of favoritism, and we gave the teacher some very specific direction on not allowing that favoritism to continue, and then we monitored to make sure those directions were followed."

A former Madison County teacher was arrested this afternoon on charges of having sex with a student.

Lyndsey Sherrod Bates is charged with a felony count of engaging in a sex act with a student younger than 19, records show. Bates is also charged with the following misdemeanors: three counts of distributing obscene material to a student and one count of having sexual contact with a student, according to Madison County jail records. Bail is set at $32,000.

Bates, 22, is the daughter-in-law of Stacy Bates. Stacy Bates is the chief deputy of the Madison County sheriff’s office, which investigated the case.

“The Sheriff’s Office started an investigation as soon as the allegations were brought to our attention, and Chief Bates was never involved in that investigation,” said Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner in a statement.

Lyndsey Bates’ relationship to Stacy Bates “in no way has affected the investigative process or urgency leading to today’s arrest, nor to the future criminal justice proceedings,” according to a statement from Lt. Donny Shaw, a sheriff’s office spokesman. “Because the victim(s) in these charges are juveniles no specific details of the investigation are being released at this time.”

Lyndsey Bates began working at Madison County High at the beginning of the current school year. She has since resigned.

In a statement, Madison County Superintendent Matt Massey said, “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement. Our system fully condemns such actions and we are also offering counseling for our students.”

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Lyndsey Bates has an attorney. She turned herself in to the jail around 4:30 p.m.

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) — A former Anne Arundel County substitute teacher made her first appearance in court Monday after being accused of engaging in sexual activities with a student as well as supplying him alcohol.

Anne Arundel County substitute teacher Alexis Mercedes Boberg, 25, of Severn, exchanged phone numbers with him and would meet the victim off of school property at various locations throughout the month, the teenage victim said told police.

Police are not saying how old the student is to protect his identity.

The victim, a student at North County High School and the Center of Applied Technologies North in Severn said that he and the teacher exchanged phone numbers in May.

It was then when Boberg supplied the minor with alcohol and engaged in sexual activities, police said.

“It happened somewhere else, off school premises. The teacher had initially reached out to this student by sending a telephone number. Some text messaging had gone back and forth, they developed a relationship over time and the student elected to come forward to police,” Marc Limanski with Anne Arundel County Police said.

On June 5, detectives executed a search warrant at Boberg’s address. Numerous items were taken into police custody, and through witness interviews and evidence, detectives then got an arrest warrant on Friday.

It charged Boberg with two counts of fourth-degree sex offense with a person in a position of authority along with one count of consuming an alcoholic beverage while on public property.

On Monday at around 11:30 a.m., Boberg turned herself into the Western District Police Station in Odenton where she was taken into custody without incident.

The Anne Arundel County School Board immediately removed Boberg from having any further contact with children when they were notified of the allegation.

“People who would prey on children simply have no place in our school system,” said Bob Mosier with Anne Arundel County Schools.

Mosier said Boberg substitute taught at a handful of county schools since 2017 but there is no evidence there were other victims.

A judge ruled at the hearing that she could be released on her own recognizance. Court records show she also had a peace order filed against her the day after police first talked to the victim.

As the investigation continues the Anne Arundel County Police is urging any other victims or anyone with information on this incident to contact the Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit at 410-222-4733. You can also remain anonymous by calling the Anne Arundel County Tip Line 410-222-4700 or Metro Crime Stoppers.

EL CAMPO, Texas - El Campo Independent School District fired a substitute teacher after a police investigation found that she recorded a dozen or so pornographic videos of herself inside at least one El Campo High School classroom and a teacher workroom.

The sub uploaded the videos to a public, commercial porn website, the police chief said.

    Were charges filed?
Although the teacher was fired, no charges have been filed.

“We can’t find a law that she violated,” El Campo Police Chief Terry Stanphill said.

Stanphill said he consulted with the district attorney’s office and it couldn't determine that the teacher had broken any laws.

The substitute teacher was issued a criminal trespassing warning, which is all the district said it can do under the law. The district said the warning "will protect all ECISD campuses."

    Where were the videos filmed?
The videos were filmed inside at least one a classroom and a teacher workroom. The teacher appeared to be alone in the videos, officials said.

The police chief said that, in one video, adult voices can be heard in the background.

    Were students present?
No students were present when the videos were recorded, according to El Campo Independent School District officials.

How long was the teacher employed?
District officials said the teacher had been employed for about three months before she was fired.

    What students, teachers are saying

Everyone seems to know who the teacher is.

One student said everyone is watching the videos and that the woman was a regular sub for her English classes.

An El Campo Middle School teacher who did not want to be identified said she was upset over the incident and thought that the substitute teacher's picture should be plastered all over the news so she doesn’t work at any schools again.

“As a teacher, I was just really shocked and then saddened,” said Denise Prochazka, who teaches at a nearby Catholic school. “The general reaction is just disgust and sickening, and they’re just horrified.”

    What is the district saying?
The district said it found out about the videos last week, after an unidentified tipster sent one of the videos to the El Campo High School principal.

After Tuesday’s school board meeting, the district's superintendent told reporters that the district “will press charges.”

“If they don’t want her back on school property, all they have to do is tell us, and we’ll deliver a written notice that, if she goes back on school property, she’ll be arrested," the police chief said.

The criminal trespassing warning was issued and the district also said the matter is being reported to the Texas Education Agency.

    El Campo ISD response:

“At ECISD, we have high standards of professional conduct, and we consider the type of behavior reported to us as unacceptable and inappropriate. We want to inform the community that we serve, that the district follows all mandated policy and procedures for hiring, including the Department of Public Safety standard background check as we do with all substitutes. The district is pursuing this incident to the extent allowable by law.

"Additionally, the district has taken steps to issue a criminal trespassing warning, which will protect all ECISD campuses. Our legal counsel is assisting us with reporting this situation to the Texas Education Agency, and we remain committed to the safety and security of our students.”

A substitute teacher will not face any charges after she allegedly made porn inside a Texas classroom and uploaded it to a commercial pornography site.

The teacher, who has not been named, allegedly made about a dozen videos inside El Campo High School in Southern Texas. Some were made in a classroom while others were made inside a teacher workroom, KPRC in Houston reports.

She was alone in the videos, which were then uploaded to a porn site, according to the allegations.

“It was always in a classroom or office when no one else was around,” El Campo Police Chief Terry Stanphill told the Houston Chronicle. “I’ve been in law enforcement for 27 years, and this is the first time I have ever run into anything like this.”

As bizarre and disturbing as the allegations are, did she break the law?

Stanphill told KPRC that "we can’t find a law that she violated.”

He said he could not charge her with public lewdness because she was so discreet.

“The reason that they did not find evidence was because the suspect had closed the door and had clothes on and was not reckless about their conduct so that someone else could see them or be offended by it,” he told the Victoria Advocate.

She has, however, been fired from her substitute gig. The woman worked at the school for about three months before someone tipped off the principal about her alleged porn activity.

“The District is aware that an improper criminal incident involving a substitute teacher occurred at ECHS,” the school district said. “The incident involved a singular substitute teacher and no student or other district staff members were involved. The district has terminated the substitute’s employment and is seeking legal advice on this specific incident.”

    https://patch.com/new-jersey/parsipp...t-bad-behavior

Sixteen teachers have temporarily or permanently lost their licenses since May 1 for bad behavior. And lawmakers want to make sure that they don't teach again – or not until their suspensions expire (see the list of teachers and their school districts below).

Lawmakers want the Office of Attorney General to launch a probe after the revelation that a teacher was hired again after getting sanctioned for bad behavior. They're especially upset about the development since Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation just last year that was intended to prevent such mistakes from ever happening.

The teacher was arrested once, fired twice from teaching positions and was allegedly caught with pornography on his school computer. But he still found work this past school year in another town, an NJ Advance Media investigation found. Read more: Fired NJ Teacher Faced Porn Allegations, Got Hired Again: Report

And there are many teachers who have been sanctioned recently, lawmakers say, who could easily slip through the cracks if their backgrounds aren't thoroughly reviewed.

Indeed, since that revelation at the beginning of May, many of the 16 teachers who were punished ran into the same issues that were cited by lawmakers when they called on the Office of Attorney General to launch a new probe.

Sen. Joe Pennacchio, R-Morris, even sent a letter to State Attorney General Gurbir Grewal calling for an investigation, noting that the New Jersey teacher was fired from a number of schools because of allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior with children, but still got hired for a new job.

Pennacchio noted that the state passed a law requiring New Jersey school districts, charter schools, nonpublic schools, and contracted service providers to review employment history of prospective employees who will have regular contact with students and to ascertain allegations of child abuse or sexual misconduct.

"Our hope was that this law would stop the dangerous hiring practice known as 'passing the trash,' and ensure that chronically-abusive teachers would no longer be able to move from school to school unchecked," he said.

Efforts to obtain comment from the OAG were not immediately successful.

Here are the 16 teachers who have been sanctioned since May 1, according to the state Department of Education:

Christopher Shenise of Vernon allegedly told a student he would pay them for "sexual videos," Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes announced. Shenise, 32, of Vernon, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree abuse, cruelty, and neglect, and third-degree official misconduct. Shenise, a teacher at West Milford High School, allegedly asked a 17-year-old student if he could pay them in exchange for sexual videos in November 2018, Valdes said. His license was revoked.
Michelina Aichele of Hillsborough, a Montgomery teacher who pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and sexual conduct with a minor, has lost her teaching license, the State Board of Examiners ruled. Aichele lost her license to teach English effective May 17, following an April 10 guilty plea. She was previously employed at Montgomery Township High School. Aichele was first arrested in Oct. 2018, when she was accused of sending nude photos and having sexually explicit conversations with a male student, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said at the time.
Alan Abraham, 60, of Belmar, the former director of the Manasquan High School Warrior Band, has pleaded guilty to stealing about $2,300 from the organization between 2015 and 2016, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. On September 24, Abraham pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree thef-by-unlawful taking in front of Superior Court Judge Vincent N. Falcetano. His license was revoked.
Michael J. Martino, a former Hackettstown teacher, permanently lost his teaching license, four years after he was accused of a sexual relationship with a student. The State Board of Examiners permanently revoked Michael J. Martino's teacher certificates at a May 17 meeting. He previously held Teacher of Mathematics Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing and Teacher of Mathematics and Supervisor certificates. Martino's certificates were first revoked in 2017 when he was indicted on sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct charges.
Justin W. Bozinta of Roselle, a former gym teacher in East Orange, was accused of uploading child porn while at school and ran a pot "grow house," former Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino announced. Bozinta was suspended from his job as a physical education teacher at Costley Middle School in East Orange. Bozinta had also been hired by the East Orange School District in 2000 as the head wrestling coach. The district suspended Bozinta after he was initially charged and has filed papers to terminate his employment. His license was revoked.
Michael Ettz, a Lodi math teacher, struck a Bergen County Police Officer in 2014. Ettz pleaded guilty to assault by auto in 2016, more than two years after he reportedly drove drunk and rear-ended his vehicle into Breslin's Bergen County Police car on Route 46. Breslin was parked on the shoulder helping another police officer with his police radio. Breslin's car was pushed into a utility pole and trapped him inside. Ettz fled the scene on foot, but was later apprehended by authorities. He was indicted aggravated assault, driving while intoxicated assault by automobile, and leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries. His license was revoked.
Ashley L. Frabizzio, 34, of Butler, a special education teacher, has agreed to forfeit her New Jersey teaching licenses following allegations she abused special education students, officials said. She was arrested and charged in December 2015 when she assaulted students at Sixteenth Avenue Elementary School in Elmwood Park, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said at the time of her arrest. She was charged with two counts of child abuse and two counts of simple assault.
Nathaniel Gerson, who worked in the Paterson school district since 1999 and was teaching math at the district's Don Bosco Technology Academy, was accused of striking a student in a snowball throwing incident in February 2017, according to northjersey.com. He resigned as part of a settlement under which the Paterson school district dropped its disciplinary charges against him. His license was revoked.
Sean Lora of Bayonne, a Jersey City school teacher, has been charged with molesting boys at School 7 in the Heights, it was announced last year. His license was revoked.
John Costello, a tenured school nurse in Northfield, was fired after he suffered a breakdown and shouted "I can't take this anymore" while a third-grade student cried in his office, according to NJ101.5; Costello appealed his termination but lost the fight when an appellate court panel rejected his arguments. His license was suspended for two years.
Pedro Rodriguez, a Passaic substitute teacher, was arrested after authorities said he fondled a 10-year-old girl while two other students watched, according to Daily Voice.
Daniel Pinkham of Branchville, a teacher and girl's soccer coach at Sparta's Veritas Christian Academy, admitted to having sexually explicit conversations involving photos with an underage student while he was employed at the school. He was sentenced to five years probation, according to the New Jersey Herald. His license was revoked.
Casey L. Bartholomew of Browns Mills, a substitute teacher aid at Pemberton Township High School, was charged with having inappropriate contact with a male student and using social media to engage in sexually explicit conversations by sending him nude photographs of herself, according to CBS3. Her license was suspended for 14 months.
Eugene G. Cimis resigned his position after Linwood alleged that, on January 26, 2018, he smelled of alcohol when speaking with two colleagues at school that morning. When Cimis was called into a meeting with administration, he denied that he had been drinking but agreed, per district policy, to go for alcohol testing. When Cimis went outside with his union representative to go to the doctor's office, he stated that he wanted to put his things in his car before leaving. At that point, he got into his car and told his union rep that he was leaving. When she explained to Cimis that she could do little to help him if he drove away, he noted that he understood and then left. The district policy indicated that "refusal of a teaching staff member to consent to the medical examination and substance test will be determined to be a positive result." Cimis was suspended from his position and later resigned. His license was suspended for three years.
Shelly Tucker Quintana was found unconscious in a car with a small child on her lap in July 2017. The car was parked, not running and the windows were up. Quintana was charged with public intoxication and abandoning/endangering a child. She later pled guilty to assault causing bodily injury. According to the information provided, Quintana agreed to a two-year suspension of her Texas certificate after she pled guilty to the criminal charges. Her New Jerseey license was suspended for four years.
Brian Rochford's license was revoked as a substitute teacher. No reason was given, and no school district was identified.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A Montgomery teacher that pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and sexual conduct with a minor has lost her teaching license, the State Board of Examiners ruled earlier this year.

Michelina Aichele, of Hillsborough, lost her license to teach English effective May 17, following an April 10 guilty plea. She was previously employed at Montgomery Township High School.

Aichele was first arrested in Oct. 2018, when she was accused of sending nude photos and having sexually explicit conversations with a male student, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said at the time.

The victim, a 17-year-old, told investigators he received nude photos from Aichele over a time period of several months. The victim also said Aichele had sexually explicit conversations with him through social media sites and email, Robertson said.
