WISE COUNTY ? A Carrollton man died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a crash near Decatur earlier in the day, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said.

The Tarrant County medical examiner?s office identified the victim as Austin Tolnay, 24, who was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

He died from blunt trauma to his abdomen, the medical examiner?s office ruled.

The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wise County.

Tolnay was driving a Ford van southbound on U.S. 81 when it collided with the rear of an 18-wheeler, DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel said Thursday. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Troopers have not determined why the van ran into the back of the 18-wheeler.

Tolnay, who was wearing a seat belt, was the only occupant in the van, Haschel said.

?He was up talking to DPS troopers after the accident, but he was still rushed to a hospital,? Haschel said.
