A couple of months ago, my daughter's Seventeen magazine had an article about on-line life experiences.  One was from a guy who had been accepted into a private Christian school due to his excellent grades, school spirit, being a true team player, etc.  Before he began the new semester, he created a Myspace account and openly listed his orientation as "Gay."  Apparently a few of the other "upstanding" students found his Myspace and reported it to the school officials.  The gay kid was asked to leave the school very shortly thereafter.  Of course, the school denied it had ANYTHING to do with his Myspace pronouncement of his sexuality.  Maybe that's why certain (particularly Christian/religious) schools are requesting students to not have Myspace...so they can't get uptight asses sued when they expel a student for his/her right to exercise their constitutional rights.

:2angry:  Agreed...My daughter's high school school had a dress code that stated "No unnatural hair colors" because it could cause a "distraction" to the other students.  I called the school and told them if Susie has purple hair and Johnny can't concentrate because he finds her hair color so distracting, perhaps Little Johnny's parents need to get him into therapy, because the real world is chocked full of distractions and there won't always be someone's "unnatural" hair color on which to blame his shortcomings.

This is a private school. Not a public one. If you don't like their rules, you have the freedom to put them into a different school. Simple as that.

It is stupid though, but some people take myspace too seriously.

I agree that it is a private school and it and has the right to have what rules it deems necessary to have the environment they desire.  I don't think the debate is really about myspace but about restrictions and the effect it has on children in the long run.  Also about how far is too far and what is reasonable, even for a private school.  If the school stated it didn't want the child to be able to watch a certain television show or the child could not go into a certain food store with the parent because they sell playboy behind the counter.  Again, it is up to the parent who has to pay the tuition.
We are, again talking about what effect it has on the child because of it, mentally and socially to be so restricted instead of taught.  Then is up to us to discuss the (sometime) outcome later on this forum.

i did the same thing, but Justin doesn't know how to read much, and he cant type, so i do it for him, he tells me what he wants to say and i type it for him, he thinks its cool........i do too, that he lets me without getting offended or anything...........

i also saw on the Maury show this morning, this girl who found her long lost sister because of myspace, so its not like its always a BAD thing anyway............one of my best friends from the age of 3 recently found me after loosing touch for 18 years, and i am dying to see him!!!

Yeah well, people want freedom of choice BUT when they get it and it's not EXACTLY what they want, they bitch.  They do nothing about it, just bitch.  These are minors we are talking about too, you know the ones that do not have all the rights adults do.  Yeah.........................
