Donald Trump Scandal Updates the Michael Cohen Scandal

Not even Fox News knew that conservative commentator Sean Hannity was a client of President Donald Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, until it was revealed in court Monday — and media ethics experts across the political spectrum are calling foul.

Hannity is the host of a primetime opinion show on Fox News, as well as a conservative talk radio show. He regularly discusses the president's legal affairs, and has often defended Cohen amid his mounting legal conflicts, particularly in the wake of an April 9 raid on the lawyer's office and residence.

Hannity, an outspoken Trump supporter who has a warm relationship with the president, never disclosed on air that he received legal services from Cohen.

Samuel Freedman, a professor at Columbia Journalism School specializing in media ethics, said Hannity's omission was "clearly an ethical violation."

"It's so blatant, it's not even a hard call," Freedman said, adding that he thinks Fox should cut ties with Hannity over the potential conflict of interest.

"I don't think they'll do it, but I think they should fire him," Freedman said. "This is a major breach. This isn't even a hard call."

It appeared to be a moot point Tuesday, however. Fox News said it still backed Hannity despite learning about his dealings with Cohen on Monday.

"While Fox News was unaware of Sean Hannity's informal relationship with Michael Cohen and was surprised by the announcement in court yesterday, we have reviewed the matter and spoken to Sean and he continues to have our full support," the cable channel said in a statement.

    The mystery client
The connection between Hannity and Cohen was uncovered at a federal court hearing on Monday, in which Cohen's lawyer was forced to reveal a recent Cohen client who had not been identified in an earlier court filing.

Cohen had three clients between 2017 and 2018, according to the filing, but only two were named. One was Trump, whose lawyer, Joanna Hendon, also attended the hearing. The other was Elliott Broidy, a former Republican National Committee official who resigned following reports that Cohen brokered a nondisclosure deal worth $1.6 million with an ex-Playboy model who said she was impregnated by Broidy.

Lawyers for Cohen were unable to provide a list of Cohen's clients in a hearing on Friday, but refused to name a third client in the Monday filing, saying it was "likely to be embarrassing or detrimental to the client."

Judge Kimba Wood ordered Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, to disclose the name in court on Monday. Ryan reportedly drew audible gasps from the courtroom audience when he revealed that the third client was Hannity.

It remains unclear whether Fox or iHeartMedia, which broadcasts Hannity's radio show, were aware that Hannity was Cohen's client prior to the courtroom admission. Representatives of iHeartMedia declined to comment on the news.

Update on Donald Trump and Twitter.

President Donald Trump cannot block Twitter users for the political views they have expressed, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled on Wednesday.

Blocking users from viewing his Twitter account — a feature offered by the social media platform — is unconstitutional and a violation of the First Amendment, Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote in her ruling.

"While we must recognize, and are sensitive to, the President's personal First Amendment rights, he cannot exercise those rights in a way that infringes the corresponding First Amendment rights of those who have criticized him," Buchwald wrote.

The government had argued that blocked individuals could still access the president's tweets. The judge agreed, but she said the impact of preventing them from interacting directly with Trump's tweets represented a "real, albeit narrow, slice of speech."

The case had been brought by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

They argued that the @realDonaldTrump Twitter account is a "public forum" under the First Amendment.

The institute represented seven individuals who had been blocked by account.

There was no immediate response from the White House to the ruling

Update on Greitens he has resigned.

Gov. Greitens announced his resignation at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Greitens, who faced possible impeachment over an extramarital affair and allegations of misuse of a charity donor list for political purpose, said he will resign effective this Friday at 5 p.m. local time.

He was involved in an affair with his former hairdresser that led to a broader investigation by prosecutors and state legislators.

"I came to office to fight for the people of Missouri ... I am thankful to all those who have worked beside me, who sweated beside me, those who gave their time, their energy and their precious resources, so that we could pursue our mission of taking Missouri in a new and better direction," he said. "The last few months have been incredibly difficult for me, for my family, for my team, for my friends and for many, many people ... This ordeal has been designed to cause an incredible amount of strain on my family ... endless personal attacks designed to cause maximum damage to family and friends."

"We must -- as we have always done -- work to improve the lives around us ... I will always be a fighter for the people of Missouri. The time has come to tend to those who have been wounded, and to care for those who need us most," Greitens said emotionally.

Greitens, 44, didn't take any questions from reporters after his brief statement. He took the oath as Missouri's chief executive nearly 17 months ago with a pledge to root out "corrupt career politicians."

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley says Greitens "has done the right thing" by announcing his resignation.

Republican leaders in the Missouri House say GOP Gov. Eric Greitens has "put the best interest" of the state's residents first in deciding to resign.

House Speaker Todd Richardson, Speaker Pro Tem Elijah Haahr, and Majority Leader Rob Vescovo issued a joint statement Tuesday, moments after Greitens announced he was stepping down Friday.

They said as public servants, their duty is to put the best interests of the people first and, "The Governor's decision today honors that duty and allows Missouri to move forward."

The three leaders also pledged to help ensure a smooth transition to power for Lt. Gov. Mike Parson as he takes over for Greitens.

They also thanked members of a special House investigatory committee and said for their "serious and professional" manner.

Hawley, like Greitens a Republican, said in a brief statement that he wished Parson well as he prepares to make the transition to governor. Hawley says he stands ready to assist in the transition. Hawley is running to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

A former Missouri governor says the state's next chief executive "will be worthy of this new responsibility."

Ex-Republican Gov. Matt Blunt issued a statement Tuesday praising Parson.

Blunt said Parson will be dedicated to working with the Republican-controlled Legislature to move the state forward. Greitens has had a sometimes rocky relationship with lawmakers. Blunt also noted that Parson is a former county sheriff and called Parson a "law and order leader." Blunt served one term as Missouri's governor, from 2005 to 2009.

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt says Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens' resignation was "the best decision for his family and the state."

The Republican senator also said Tuesday that he looks forward to working with soon-to-be GOP Gov. Mike Parson and "will do everything I can to be helpful." Blunt previously resisted calling for Greitens' resignation, saying legal and legislative processes should run their course.

    Greitens' indictment and charges
A St. Louis grand jury indicted Greitens on Feb. 22 on one felony count of invasion of privacy for allegedly taking a photo of a woman without her consent at his home in 2015, before he was elected governor. The charge was dismissed during jury selection, but a special prosecutor was considering whether to refile charges.

In April, the local St. Louis prosecutor's office charged Greitens with another felony, alleging that he improperly used the donor list for a charity that he'd founded to raise money for his 2016 campaign.

Less than two weeks ago, the Missouri Legislature began meeting in special session to consider whether to pursue impeachment proceedings to try to oust Greitens from office.

A special House investigatory committee had subpoenaed Greitens to testify next Monday.

Greitens' brashness alienated some GOP legislators even before his affair became public in January.

The woman's then-husband released a secretly recorded conversation in which she described the alleged incident. The woman later told a Missouri House investigative committee that Greitens restrained, slapped, shoved and threatened her during a series of sexual encounters that at times left her crying and afraid.

Greitens said the allegations amounted to a "political witch hunt," and vowed to stay in office. But the report's release created a firestorm, with both Republicans and Democrats calling for his resignation.

His departure elevates fellow Republican Lt. Gov. Mike Parson to the governor's office.

Greitens' administration was thrown into chaos the night of Jan. 10, when a St. Louis TV station aired a report about Greitens allegedly taking the compromising photo and threatening to blackmail the woman if she ever spoke of their encounter. The report aired shortly after Greitens delivered his State of the State address to lawmakers.

Greitens admitted to having an affair but denied any criminal wrongdoing. He said the criminal case was politically motivated and called St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, a Democrat, a "reckless liberal prosecutor."

Lawmakers from both parties immediately began questioning whether Greitens could continue to lead the state in the wake of the scandal. The House authorized the legislative investigation a week after the indictment.

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley also launched an inquiry into a veterans charity Greitens founded. Federal law bars 501(c)(3) charities such as The Mission Continues from intervening in political campaigns on behalf of candidates.

The Associated Press first reported in October 2016 that Greitens' campaign had obtained a list of individuals, corporations and other nonprofits that had given at least $1,000 to The Mission Continues. The AP reported that Greitens raised about $2 million from those who had previously given significant amounts to the charity.

Hawley, a Republican running for U.S. Senate, turned evidence over to Gardner, saying April 17 that he believed Greitens had broken the law. Her office charged him with tampering with computer data for allegedly disclosing the donor list without the charity's permission.

A May 2 report from a special House investigatory committee indicated that Greitens himself received the donor list and later directed aides to work off it to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign. A former campaign aide testified that he was duped into taking the fall when the campaign tried to explain how it had gotten the list.

The invasion-of-privacy indictment stated that on March 21, 2015, Greitens photographed the woman and transmitted the photo "in a manner that allowed access to that image via a computer."

During her testimony to the House investigative committee, the woman said Greitens invited her to his home and offered to show her "how to do a proper pull-up." The woman said she initially thought "this is going to be some sort of sexy workout." But once in his basement, Greitens taped her hands to pull-up rings, blindfolded her, and started kissing and disrobing her without her consent, according to her testimony.

Then she saw a flash and heard a click, like a cellphone picture, she said. The woman testified that Greitens told her: "Don't even mention my name to anybody at all, because if you do, I'm going to take these pictures, and I'm going to put them everywhere I can. They are going to be everywhere, and then everyone will know what a little whore you are."

Greitens, a married father of two young boys, repeatedly denied blackmailing the woman. He declined to say whether he took a photo.

Greitens, who had also served as a White House fellow and written a best-selling book, entered the 2016 gubernatorial race as a brash outsider. He won an expensive Republican primary, then defeated Democratic Attorney General Chris Koster in the general election to give Republicans control of the governor's mansion for the first time in eight years. Some considered him a potential future presidential contender.

Republicans also controlled the Missouri House and Senate, but there were frequent clashes between lawmakers and Greitens, who compared them to third-graders and labeled them "career politicians."

He confronted criticism from some educators and lawmakers for working to pack the State Board of Education with members who would fire the education commissioner. Greitens' use of a secretive app that deletes messages after they're read also sparked a review by Hawley.

    Damn!!!

athan Larson, a 37-year-old accountant from Charlottesville, Virginia, is running for Congress as an independent candidate in his native state. He is also a pedophile, as he admitted to HuffPost on Thursday, who has bragged in website posts about raping his late ex-wife.

In a phone call, Larson confirmed that he created the now-defunct websites suiped.org and incelocalypse.today ― chat rooms that served as gathering places for pedophiles and violence-minded misogynists like himself. HuffPost contacted Larson after confirming that his campaign website shared an IP address with these forums, among others. His sites were terminated by their domain host on Tuesday.

On the phone, he was open about his pedophilia and seemingly unfazed about his long odds of attaining government office.

?A lot of people are tired of political correctness and being constrained by it,? he said. ?People prefer when there?s an outsider who doesn?t have anything to lose and is willing to say what?s on a lot of people?s minds.?

When asked whether he?s a pedophile or just writes about pedophilia, he said, ?It?s a mix of both. When people go over the top there?s a grain of truth to what they say.?

Asked whether there was a ?grain of truth? in his essay about father-daughter incest and another about raping his ex-wife repeatedly, he said yes, offering that plenty of women have rape fantasies.

According to Larson?s campaign manifesto, his platform as a ?quasi-neoreactionary libertarian? candidate includes protecting gun ownership rights, establishing free trade and protecting ?benevolent white supremacy,? as well as legalizing incestuous marriage and child pornography.

In the manifesto, Larson called Nazi leader Adolf Hitler a ?white supremacist hero.? He urged Congress to repeal the Violence Against Women Act, adding, ?We need to switch to a system that classifies women as property, initially of their fathers and later of their husbands.? He also showed sympathy for men who identify as involuntary celibates, or incels, suggesting it is unfair that they ?are forced to pay taxes for schools, welfare, and other support for other men?s children.?

Using the pseudonyms Leucosticte and Lysander, Larson frequently participated in conversations on his own message boards, he confirmed to HuffPost.

A South Dakota sheriff waited a whole minute after polls closed to fire a deputy who undid his re-election bid this week.

Bon Homme County Sheriff Lenny Gramkow fired deputy sheriff Mark Maggs after Maggs defeated him by a vote of 878-331 in Tuesday?s Republican primary election. Maggs posted his time-stamped termination notice signed by Gramkow on Facebook after polls closed.

Gramkow didn?t give a reason for the firing. South Dakota is a right-to-work state where employees can be fired without cause and the state?s sheriffs have the authority to hire and fire personnel.

Gramkow declined to comment about the firing. Maggs planned to meet with the county commission on Thursday.

I read this earlier today thinking the vote was effective immediately & thought "what an arsehole"

Then I realised the new guy doesn't become sheriff til January & is now unemployed for 6-7 months, so I changed my assessment to "whoa what a fucking ARSEHOLE"

Hope the new sheriff commences an indepth corruption probe into the activities of his petty former boss as soon as he takes office, because if he'd do something as extreme & likely to draw public attention as this, imagine the kind of payback & abuses he was dishing out during his years in that position of power

Yeah. Usually in these cases, the defeated sheriff retires or if too young to retire takes a job on a neighboring police force or some such thing, then resigns and turns it over to the deputy if he can't stand to work with his replacement. I certainly wouldn't hire this ahole after a stunt like this.

    Karma!

Sarah Sanders had a hard time getting dinner in the D.C. area on Friday. She and her family were asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Va.

Jaike Foley-Schultz, who says he is a waiter at the Red Hen, shared a post on Facebook that said his boss kicked out the press secretary and her party.

The post went viral when the director of Clean Virginia, a left-leaning energy nonprofit, shared the post on Twitter, along with a handwritten note, purportedly from the restaurant, with the note: “86 — Sara Huckabee Sanders.”

The term “86” is restaurant shorthand for cutting people off, asking them to leave, or throwing them out.

Sanders confirmed that she was asked to leave in a tweet this morning.

“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for [President Trump] and I politely left,” Sanders tweeted.

She also got in a dig, noting that being asked to leave said more about the owner than her.

As has become common when a business stirs up controversy, the restaurant’s Yelp and Facebook pages have been flooded by reviewers weighing in on Sanders being given the boot.

On Yelp, one person from Texas wrote, “Decides who can and who cannot dine based on their employment or political affiliations. What a despicable business model! Poor decision by owners and management.”

Another, from California wrote, “I was dining at the Red Hen and witnessed them rudely refuse service to Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I was disgusted and appalled by the incident. I will never eat at this establishment again.”

    Facebook was not much different.
