    Asshole Politician of the Day

I figured a fun thread would be to glorify the dickery that is in today's politics.

Today's offender is Tennesse Senator, Stacey Campfield.

Stacey thinks that mocking the banning of pressure cooker bombs (in light of the Boston Bombing), is parallel to the argument of gun control. Observe:

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/tennessee-s...8#.UXiN_bXvtc4

A Tennessee state senator is refusing to apologize for what many are calling a "tasteless" joke about pressure cookers in his blog in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Republican State Sen. Stacey Campfield posted a photo of a pressure cooker with "Assault Pressure Cooker (APC)" printed below it.

The photo had labels and arrows pointing to all of the pot's "dangerous" features including a "muzzle break thingy that goes 'up'" and a "tactical pistol grip."

It's also described as "large-capacity, can cook for hours without reloading" and the color was "evil, black."

The blog post was titled, "Here comes Feinstein again," an apparent dig at Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), one of the leading proponents in the battle for gun control. The image implied that pressure cookers might be her next target.

Two pressure cookers were turned into bombs in the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three people and wounded more than 260 people.

    Campfield dismisses the criticism.

"I think it's tasteless when Obama will drag everybody he can up to Capitol Hill and try to pass gun control," Campfield told ABCNews.com today. "I think that was classless and tasteless. I don't hear them complaining about that too much."

"I was showing the hypocrisy of Diane Feinstein, the gun grabbers, of their inability to realize that it is a person that does activity, not an inanimate object, be it a gun or a pressure cooker," he said.

Campfield also posted a follow-up post on his blog titled, "Inappropriate? Me? Never!"

He wrote that he had gotten a call from the media inquiring about the blog being called "inappropriate."

"Really?" Campfield wrote. "If my post was inappropriate talking about 'crock pot control' then where is the outrage from the left when they push for gun control after the Sandy Hook shooting? Im [sic] sorry if I exposed your double standard....Well, not really."

Dozens of people commented on the pressure cooker post and its follow-up post, both condemning and supporting the senator.

"What kind of insensitive imbecile thinks it's okay to post a picture like this? Do you think it's a joke? Three people dead, one an eight year old child and you think it's something to laugh about?" one person wrote.

Another defended it by writing, "Nowhere in this post do I see anyone laughing over death. The post is about double standards."

"While obviously intended as a way to show how idiotic some Senators (mostly Democrats) are in trying to ban 'assault weapons'; this only comes across as insensitive and mean," yet another person wrote. "Perhaps a blog post talking about how idiotic it is would be in order, but this picture doesn't do it."

Campfield has not been the only lawmaker in trouble for seemingly insensitive comments.

During the manhunt for the bombing suspects on April 19 that put Boston on lockdown, Arkansas Republican State Rep. Nate Bell tweeted, "I wonder how many Boston liberals spent the night cowering in their homes wishing they had an AR-15 with a hi-capacity magazine? #2A."

Bell pulled the tweet and apologized after a barrage of criticism.

"I would like to apologize to the people of Boston & Massachusetts for the poor timing of my tweet earlier this morning," he posted on Facebook. "As a staunch and unwavering supporter of the individual right to self defense, I expressed my point of view without thinking of its effect on those still in time of crisis."

Bell said he regretted the "poor choice of timing."

Campfield is no stranger to criticism for his opinions. He was behind a failed bill that proposed reducing welfare assistance for kids with low grades in school and authored a controversial bill that would prohibit teachers from discussing any sexuality aside from heterosexuality up until the eighth grade.

I saw that Michele Bachmann might not run for reelection in 2014. That would reduce the asshole quotient by a least one. The fuckery that comes out of her mouth is beyond the pale.

There are sooo many to choose from.

    (1) BACHMANN WARNED ‘THE LION KING’ WAS GAY PROPAGANDA: At the November 2004 EdWatch National Education Conference, Bachmann said the “normalization” of homosexuality would lead to “desensitization”: “Very effective way to do this with a bunch of second graders, is take a picture of ‘The Lion King’ for instance, and a teacher might say, ‘Do you know that the music for this movie was written by a gay man?’ The message is: I’m better at what I do, because I’m gay.”

    (2) BACHMANN CLAIMED THAT SCIENTISTS ARE SUPPORTERS OF INTELLIGENT DESIGN: During a 2006 debate, Bachmann said, “There are hundreds and hundreds of scientists, many of them holding Nobel Prizes, who believe in intelligent design.” This was, and is, not true.

And my all time personal favorite

    (3) BACHMANN CLAIMED THAT CARBON DIOXIDE IS ‘HARMLESS’: In 2008, a Stanford scientist revealed “direct links” between increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and “increases in human mortality” — globally, he found that as many as “20,000 air-pollution-related deaths per year per degree Celsius may be due to this greenhouse gas.” The next year, Bachmann, who is not a scientist, said that “carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn’t even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.”

Mark Sanford Publishes Personal Phone Numbers Of Anyone Who Called His Campaign

Congressional candidates who are down in the polls often pull unexpected stunts to try to shake up the race — but even the most cunning strategist would have to question the wisdom of publicizing an unredacted list of phone numbers from people who have called the campaign.

This past weekend, former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), best known for lying about an affair with an Argentinian woman, ran a full-page ad in the Charleston Post & Courier to support his congressional campaign after it was revealed that he had been charged with trespassing at his ex-wife’s house. In the ad, Sanford included his personal cell phone number and told readers to call him “if you have further questions.”

After Sanford published his own cell phone number, House Majority PAC, a Democratic-aligned super PAC, included his number in a fundraising email sent Wednesday.

Sanford responded Thursday by publishing a list of unredacted phone numbers from anybody who had called his cell phone in an attempt to publicly shame them.

michelle bachman needs to go away. she makes a mockery of MN and IA. one of my favorites is when she told the world she was from waterloo, ia. the home of john wayne.

for anyone not from iowa, john wayne is from winterset and john wayne gacy was from waterloo.

but then iowa also has this schmuck:

Steve King: Comparing Immigrants To Dogs Was 'A Compliment'

Steve King is such a douche. He told some group that picking new immigrants is like picking dogs from a litter, try to get the pick of a litter.

Every time his mouth opens something offensive comes out.

    Damn!!!

athan Larson, a 37-year-old accountant from Charlottesville, Virginia, is running for Congress as an independent candidate in his native state. He is also a pedophile, as he admitted to HuffPost on Thursday, who has bragged in website posts about raping his late ex-wife.

In a phone call, Larson confirmed that he created the now-defunct websites suiped.org and incelocalypse.today ― chat rooms that served as gathering places for pedophiles and violence-minded misogynists like himself. HuffPost contacted Larson after confirming that his campaign website shared an IP address with these forums, among others. His sites were terminated by their domain host on Tuesday.

On the phone, he was open about his pedophilia and seemingly unfazed about his long odds of attaining government office.

?A lot of people are tired of political correctness and being constrained by it,? he said. ?People prefer when there?s an outsider who doesn?t have anything to lose and is willing to say what?s on a lot of people?s minds.?

When asked whether he?s a pedophile or just writes about pedophilia, he said, ?It?s a mix of both. When people go over the top there?s a grain of truth to what they say.?

Asked whether there was a ?grain of truth? in his essay about father-daughter incest and another about raping his ex-wife repeatedly, he said yes, offering that plenty of women have rape fantasies.

According to Larson?s campaign manifesto, his platform as a ?quasi-neoreactionary libertarian? candidate includes protecting gun ownership rights, establishing free trade and protecting ?benevolent white supremacy,? as well as legalizing incestuous marriage and child pornography.

In the manifesto, Larson called Nazi leader Adolf Hitler a ?white supremacist hero.? He urged Congress to repeal the Violence Against Women Act, adding, ?We need to switch to a system that classifies women as property, initially of their fathers and later of their husbands.? He also showed sympathy for men who identify as involuntary celibates, or incels, suggesting it is unfair that they ?are forced to pay taxes for schools, welfare, and other support for other men?s children.?

Using the pseudonyms Leucosticte and Lysander, Larson frequently participated in conversations on his own message boards, he confirmed to HuffPost.

Pennsylvania Politician under fire for racist rant

A Pennsylvania GOP official has resigned after she was caught repeatedly referring to black NFL players as ?baboons? on Facebook in heated posts that ripped the Pittsburgh Steelers for kneeling during the national anthem.

Carla Maloney, a former secretary for the Republican Committee of Beaver County, resigned shortly after her 2017 comments were unearthed.

The Republican rescinded both her position as secretary and as an elected member of the committee, according to its website.

he apologized for the ?distasteful, inappropriate and insensitive? comments in a resignation letter to committee chair Chip Kosher, and said the posts were not reflective of the ?diverse family? from which she hails, Trib Live reports.

The committee also distanced itself from Maloney?s comments, writing on its website Friday that her views were ?abhorrent.?

Maloney?s initial posts were made on Facebook and have since been deleted after they were dug up by The Times online Thursday.

Many of them were published after a Sept. 24, 2017 football game, in which many Pittsburgh Steelers players declined to take to the field for the national anthem.

?Tired of these over paid ignorant blacks telling me what I should believe in. I will tell you what I believe in and that is our Flag the National Anthem and America period end of story,? she allegedly wrote, according to The Times. ?You don?t like it here go to Africa see how you like it there. We are all Americans not African American not Hispanic American. WE ARE ALL AMERICAN.?

She also griped of ?reverse racism,? and targeted the Steelers specifically, deeming them ?just as bad as the rest of the over paid baboons.?

?How many men and women have lost limbs or died to protect this county and you baboons want respect,? she complained. ?If you want respect you need to earn it and so far you haven?t. Stop watching, or going to a game and paying for over priced food, water and tickets. Let?s so how the baboons get paid when white people stop paying their salaries.?

A Brazilian Politician who is in Jail pulls out of the running for president.

    e.

Lula had been the frontrunner despite being in jail for a corruption conviction and despite the top electoral court barring his candidacy.

With the deadline for the registration of candidates only hours away, he threw his weight behind his Workers' Party colleague Fernando Haddad.

The election is on 7 October.

It has been a tumultuous election campaign dominated by Lula's legal battles and the stabbing last week of Jair Bolsonaro, the far-right candidate who is second in the polls behind Lula.

Mr Bolsonaro was attacked by a lone assailant during a campaign rally and is still in hospital..

    What has happened with Lula?

The Workers' Party leadership presented a united front
With the clock ticking down on a deadline for candidates to be registered, senior members of the Workers' Party gathered in front of the police headquarters where Lula, 72, is serving a 12-year prison sentence for corruption.

The party's founder, Luiz Eduardo Greenhalgh, then read out a letter written by Lula in his cell.

In it, Lula, who governed from January 2003 until December 2010, said that he had been "unjustly imprisoned" before asking "all who would vote for me to vote for our friend Fernando Haddad for president".

    Why was Lula barred?
    Image copyrightREUTERS
    Image caption
Lula was barred after being convicted on corruption and money laundering charges
Lula was barred from running for the presidency under a 2010 law dubbed "Clean Slate". It prohibits those who have a criminal conviction which has been upheld on appeal from running for public office.

In July 2017, Lula was found guilty of accepting an upgrade to a beachfront flat as a bribe from an engineering firm involved in a major corruption scheme.

Lula has always denied any wrongdoing and appealed against the verdict. The appeal was rejected and Lula was given 24 hours to turn himself in.

From his cell, Lula has continued the legal fight against his conviction and the ban which prevents him from running for public office.

Why did he finally give up?
    Image copyrightAFP
    Image caption
Supporters of Lula have been camped outside the police headquarters where he is jailed
The decision was made less than two weeks after Brazil's top electoral court ruled that he was "ineligible" to run for the presidency.

Lula's legal team has appealed against that decision and the Supreme Court is still due to rule on it.

But after a Workers' Party request to extend the deadline to register presidential candidates from the 11 September to 17 September was rejected, its leadership felt it had to act.

Not registering Mr Haddad meant that if Lula's appeal were to fail, the party could have been left without a presidential candidate altogether.

After Lula backed Mr Haddad in his letter, the party registered him as its new candidate with just hours to spare.

    What next?
    Image copyrightREUTERS
    Image caption
The Workers' Party is stressing that a vote for Haddad is a vote for Lula
The Workers' Party hopes people who were going to vote for Lula will now vote for Mr Haddad.

Lula left office with record approval ratings in 2010 and despite his imprisonment, almost 40% of people asked by polling firm Datafolha said they would vote for him.

Mr Haddad, on the other hand, is not very well known outside of S?o Paulo, where he was mayor from 2013 to 2017.

In his letter, Lula said that Mr Haddad "will be my representative in this battle". "Our name is now Haddad!" he wrote.

In its first TV spot since Mr Haddad became its presidential candidate, the party also stressed the links between the two men.

Both Lula and Mr Haddad appear for the same amount of time and rather than talking about himself, Mr Haddad praises Lula and his achievements.

In his letter, Lula says that while a man can be unfairly imprisoned, his ideas cannot be. He's made it clear he will keep fighting for the party from behind bars.

Lula asked his supporters to vote for Fernando Haddad but he's a relative unknown, especially in the north-east of the country, a poor part of Brazil that has traditionally been a Lula heartland.

There are less than four weeks left until the first round. The latest poll, released by IBOPE on Tuesday evening, suggested that the percentage of voters intending to back far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro had risen to 26%. Mr Haddad isn't doing badly - his share has risen to 8% while other candidates saw their share remain stable or fall.

The Workers' Party has adopted a new slogan - "Haddad is Lula" - there's no clearer signal that although Lula is out of the race, the country's most popular politician is still in the minds of millions.

    Who is Fernando Haddad?
He was the minister of education during Lula's presidency and is thought to enjoy his trust. He was Lula's vice-presidential running mate until now.

Fernando Haddad has not performed well in the polls so far
From 2013 to 2017, the 55-year-old also served as mayor of S?o Paulo, Brazil's most populous city and faced mass demonstrations against bus fare rises.

The Workers' Party hopes that Mr Haddad will get through to the run-off scheduled for 28 October.

But Mr Haddad is facing legal problems of his own. Prosecutors allege that during his campaign for mayor his team received a loan from a construction firm which stood to benefit from contracts once he was elected. He has denied any wrongdoing.

    What do the polls say?
The most recent poll carried out by research company Ibope between 8 and 11 September suggests the following results for the top five candidates:

Jair Bolsonaro (far right, PSL): 26%
Ciro Gomes (centre left, PDT): 11%
    Marina Silva (green, Rede): 9%
Geraldo Alckmin (centre right, PSDB): 9%
Fernando Haddad (Workers' Party, PT): 8%
It is expected that Mr Haddad's share will rise now he is the Workers' Party's official candidate.
