So this thread was the device for a lively debate between my husband and I. I will leave my opinions about the poster of fan fic out of this. But take a second and detach yourself from this as it being "Jodi" related. Just think of it as "Generic Death Penalty Murder 1 Trial Porn Fan Fic"
My husband's points as to why this might be seen as 'okay' were that due to the general desensitization of society toward graphic photos, murder, death, ect and that trials have to a degree become 'entertainment' that fan fic involving those in the trial and/or case is a natural progression or may also be part of that desensitization.
I disagreed, not that our society has become desensitized and that trials have a sort of fascination to Joe public now (because filming and broadcasting trials is not new, even before OJ), but I disagree that the line of objectification to people involved in trials (up to and including the victim) has been removed or even blurred by the general public. In trials where explicit content is shown (such as nude photos or video), these are not widely displayed - not just within the media which has regulations, but on private blogs which have no regulations. Even those of the suspect on trial, regardless of the feelings for that person.
The argument that televised trials are the 'new reality tv' is not one I can agree with. Again, they've been filmed for some time, but there is no editing or directing. There's no interviews. And by and large, the individuals involved don't want to be there (outside of perhaps some gallery members, who are not - usually - a factor in a trial.) They are not like reality TV 'stars' that so to speak sign up for what they get, the fame (to whatever degree), the fans, the invaded privacy. If fan fic is written about them, there's a difference. Yes, they're real people: but they "signed up for it." While a suspect who committed a crime might have to a degree "signed up for it" - this is still a serious criminal trial. This is their life.
Then we have the family. As has been mentioned previously: MDS is often found by family and friends of victims. Imagine your mother, sister, husband, wife, child, friend was murdered. And you were on the internet and found this site. How would you feel? Do we as fellow members of this site have to read this? No. But this is someone's loved one - even if the fan fic isn't about the victim, it's making a mockery out of the trial. If it's about the Prosecutor it's demeaning the role they are playing in getting justice for that loved one. It's a matter of respect, having ethical culpability and a moral compass that goes far enough over to realize that regardless of how you feel about the person sitting in the defense chair: this is our justice system and you're taking a shit on it.
And finally - when it comes to MDS. No, I don't think there should be fan fic about trials or murder victims here. If fan fic is going to be written, it belongs in the NSFW section - see my reasons above for why. If the fan fic about a trial/murder/what have you was on Bob's personal blog then fine: you come across it in your internet travels about the case and maybe say "hey, wow - look what I found." and move on. But Bob's blog is purely a reflection of Bob. If Bob posts on MDS a fan fic about a trial/murder, it is a reflection of MDS and it's members. This is a community, even if you don't care to step outside of a thread/subforum because all you came here for was one specific topic. This community means something to people.
Just to throw it out there: buying a premie membership doesn't give you free reign to shit where you eat. It's like buying a ticket to the movies - doesn't mean you can throw pop corn at the screen or talk on your phone during the movie.
TL;DR - I think this is crap and has no place here. If there's going to be fan fic it should be moved to NSFW. Have some respect. I say that as someone who has been here since February, so you can't pull "old school cool kid" crap with me.
For the love of god, ALL OF THIS.
I beseech Mike, J and the mods. Let's reconsider at least where this thread is housed and if at all possible remove the disgusting Jodi fan fic porn. You guys know I am in no way a prude or overly sensitive. I just would really hate to have anyone who this trial actually does affect come across something so disrespectful and just mentally and emotionally disgusting as fan fiction porn of a real life horrible situation.
I mean, would it be okay if it were any other thread? If this was pulled with the Trayvon thread or any of the other media hyped situations, I doubt it would be received well. What if I decided to write a comedy sketch about the Boston bombing? Seriously, think about the scope of what this kind of shit means to others. Murder isn't funny. And it isn't sexy. If you think so, maybe we should be taking a look at the people who do feel this way and discuss the real problem.
You guys realize there is exactly one relevant post in this thread and the rest is everyone insanely bitching, right?
Less arguing, more creepy fan fiction.
But it was beautiful and we had a moment on The Little Mermaid ride.
i'm wondering why coconut is now posting erotic fantasy in the actual jodi thread, rather than the specified erotic fantasy thread.
you guys fucked up. there was a place and time for him, and because he got so much flack - he's gone back to his old ways of posting off topic and possibly offensive shit in the death thread.
Well he was encouraged to continue to do so in the death thread. So why should he stop?

I agree. Sorry my post was misleading. I was just mainly pointing out the encouragement he received from several other posters, which is why he keeps making those kinds of posts.
FTR: i love reading justice's dear diaries, but i think they also belong in this thread. they'd be easier to find that way too!
it doesn't matter if coconut (and justice) are being encouraged to post them there... this is the exact reason this case has gotten its very own sub-forum. it's so that things have there proper place.
