It can. I had a severe injury when I was a teenager and didn't feel anything for about 10 minutes or so.
I agree, I think the worst part is not the physical pain of the stab wounds but the knowledge of what was happening to him and seeing the injuruies in the mirror, or looking down and seeing them. Although not being able to breathe or what Dr Horn referred to as chest pain like a heart attack would also be horrible.

(Nurmi objects-Approach) Jodi stabbed him the chest-the heart. We don't know if Travis saw the knife, but we know he felt it. As he is seated there, the knife comes at him. He knows the person doing it to him. It hurts when a knife hits you in the chest. Using Jodi's standard of her attempt of suicide, she knows it was painful when she got the papercut. Travis is feeling like he's having a heartattack. Jodi is in a superior position. He grabs the knife and gets more pain. He can't get away. Travis is now suffering. He hurts. He's bleeding. He's trapped. Jodi didn't let go of the knife. Travis gets out of the shower and get away- What's Travis thinking about-the grandmother that Jodi sent flowers to? What was Travis thinking about? Must seem like a long walk to the sink for Travis. Travis was expereinces terror and pain. EX 98 shows Travis made it to the sink. He's over the sink, and he's alive. He could see in the mirror. He sees himself for the first time. What a reflection he seen in that mirror. Do you think he was quite as a church mouse? He's starts getting stabbed in the back of the head. Travis can see Jodi stabbing him in the head. It's painful to get a knife in the head hard enough to leave a divet. 2 minutes of pain and terror. JM has the court room sit for 2 minutes. Silence in the room. (hands down-the most powerful moment)
Now...he got his throat slit. It was a long time.
Travis tried to leave down the hallway. He didn't have the strength anymore. He went down. He was alive. The last thing Travis saw was Jodi with a blade coming to his throat. The last thing he felt before leaving this world was pain. Travis suffered enough on June 4th for 2 lifetimes. Those 2 minutes seemed like an lifetime for him. Travis suffered pain and mental pain. We know Jodi slit his throat. Jodi knows Travis suffered. Any reasonable person would know if you stick a blade in somebodys chest it's going to hurt. Jodi meant to spill blood and cause death. She knew every step of the way. This is a woman with a high IQ. She knows what she is doing.

She changed clothing. She put the licence plate back on. The defense has a weak argument. JM is basically saying Nurmi thinks the jury is stupid and he doesn't want to talk about what actually happened. EX 193- why don't we talk about these? Why don't we talk about EX 204-the throat. Travis suffered. You already know about Dr. Samuels track record? Jodi knew if you take a knife, you are going to hurt somebody. In those 2 minutes, Travis suffered. Only death relieved it.
