It's after 10:30 here but I can call Dan tomorrow morning. The only thing about Dan is that he is based solely in a specific area. Not saying he can't give us some hints or ideas tho so I will definitly ask.

To the family: You should be able to get a copy of the police report. Ther eis no reason why you shouldnt have that in your hands right now. On a crappier side, I want to tell you to hold out hope but to also prepare yourself for the worst. Get dental records to the proper people and keep a list of who gets those dental records.
My father is a missing person and has been since 1994 so believe me when I say I completly understand EVERYTHING you are going thru.
Basically i gets to a point that you need closure and there is always going to be some kind of question.

Write everything down that you can, every person you ever talked to about the case. I would assume their is a detective involved, ask him to run a social security number check on him. Get his credit report.
One thing that Dan did tell me was that he had a suspicion that someone either my dad or someone else had opened up a credit card years back while he was still missing.

Put out flyers, as much as you can and make a facebook page and share, share, share.

What's literally fucked up in these cases is that SOMEONE knows something out there. Whether it be good news or bad news, someone knows something.

Your family is totally in my thoughts and prayers as you may be in for the long haul of never knowing for sure. It's been 18 years for my family and believe me, I feel it all the time.
Anything I can do or hellp with, I have no problem doing. Im also available if you wanna talk on the phone or anything, just let me know.

I was 16 when my dad left and we have no answers. No clues, no ideas and a community that knew him really well. My community really got involved in searches and everything. Use EVERY single thing you can BUT remember to live your life. It's extremely hard to kind of go about your everyday life but you HAVE to.

The not knowing can really eat at you so please ttake care of yourself.

Ill call Dan tomorrow and forward him all the info and I can also ask him to come him to this thread if he can and see what he has to say. You need to literally hound your police department for answers, but like I said, I do not for one minute understand why they wont give you the initial police report.

Please feel free to message me on here or in this thread and if you want to talk ont he phone, I can do that.

Im praying for you and your family to get thru this.

    Vernice

Investigators still searching for William “Jeff” Crawford

SOUTHSIDE, W.Va. — A search warrant has been issued and investigators are currently scouring the scene of a “suspicious” fire that destroyed the home of William “Jeff” and Ashley (Baird) Crawford in Southside, W.Va. — searching for evidence that may lead them toward a suspect in the case that recently turned from a missing person’s investigation to a homicide investigation.

Sgt. E.B. Starcher, Post Commander of the Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, reported on Thursday that a team of investigators had received search warrants for the scene of the fire in Southside, as well as for the Crawfords’ vehicle — a Mustang of unknown year that was located in Mason County and impounded by the Mason County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Starcher, following the discovery of the Crawfords’ vehicle, investigators with the sheriff’s department found that the car had been purchased illegally, its title forged. No other information about the vehicle has been released.

The Crawfords and cousin, Tonda (McCarty) Nelson, have been missing since June 17 — the investigation into their whereabouts changing to a homicide investigation following the discovery of human remains on Sunday evening on Duncan Creek Road, Gallipolis Ferry.

Forensic specialists from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., arrived on scene on Tuesday and the remains were later positively identified as those of Ashley and Tonda. The whereabouts of Jeff Crawford remain unknown.

Starcher reported that Jeff remains as “person of interest” in the investigation and the state police would like to speak with him or anyone with information in regard to his whereabouts.

According to Starcher, the bodies of Ashley Crawford and Tonda Nelson were turned over to Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant on Thursday following autopsies on Wednesday. No information concerning the women’s cause of death is being released.

“We’re not going to release that information until there’s a suspect in hand,” Starcher said.

The women were last seen together on June 16 and — although investigators are unsure of a time of death — according to Starcher, the evidence found at the scene could be consistent with a June 16 date of death.

According to investigators, no cell phone or bank activity had been detected since the trio vanished and officials with the state police are continuing to ask that the public come forward with information in regard to the whereabouts of Jeff Crawford and into the mysterious death of Ashley Crawford and Tonda Nelson. Anyone with information should contact the West Virginia State Police at (304) 675-0850.

The family of Jeff Crawford has also been circulating a Facebook post asking that anyone with information on Jeff contact them anonymously with their information or tips at P.O. Box 73, Point Pleasant, W.Va., 25550.

    What about these names:
    Matthew Woods
    Steven Adkins
    Chad McCallister

They were arrested for the murder of Rene Gonzalez.

    http://www.wsaz.com/news/headlines/B...125346078.html

Or maybe not. I found this comment:

Please stop trying to connect Rene's murder with the disappearance of Jeff, Ashley and Tonda. They are in NO WAY connected. Adkins, McCallister, and Woods aren't serial killers. McCallister's woman Ashley (not Jeff's Ashley) was the mother of Rene's daughter. She went back and forth between them and that is why Chad hated Rene so much. Rene was a heck of a man and a heck of a father. Secondly, Matt Woods has been dating Marty's soon to be ex wife for almost a year and they couldn't stand eachother so they weren't partners in crime. Lastly, Matt Woods grandfather owns half of Mason Co so it's no conspiracy the bodies were found there. Can we please stop the ignorant gossip and crap stirring and focus our thoughts and prayers on the families of these people, finding out who is responsible and bringing Jeff home.

First off! Wow! I am overwhelmed with all of this!!! LOL I am thrilled to see so much trying and help! More than I expected or have received. I am just so happy when I get on here and see all the posts and people who CARE!!! I have lost hope here. No one really talks about it anymore around here. They have got back into their everyday lives. Old news. So sad, but old news. I understand , because it's not their family. They don't have to live with it in their heart every day.

I completly understand this a million percent over and over. I think there is usually a little more investigation when their are homicides/thefts/ etc involved but if it's just an adult that 'left', there is no real desire for LE to get involved and its upsetting.
I need to go back and re-read this thread but I do soooo hope and pray for you and your family to get answers. Having that open door where you know basically nothing about what may or may not have happened to a loved one, it's so hard and no one can understand that certain kind of loss because it's not a super common one. Usually we know the fate of someone, whether they are alive or dead but to not know is almost like reliving it every single day.

Also, closureneeded, here is the contact info for a detective that we have talked to here on the boards. It never hurts to ask and he may be able to give you some valuable information. I had planned on calling him myself but for personal reasons and not sleeping at all last night, I think my brain will go into panic/anxiety mode.

Please call and ask for Dan Holley and here is his line:
    Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
    Detective Dan Holley
    (702) 828-5999

When you do get an opportunity to talk to him, should you call, let him know that the people at MyDeathSpace asked that you get in touch with him. He is a very kind man.

Also, if for some reason you are not comfortable calling, if you will just give me a few hours to get my head in control I will call for you. If you do contact him, would you let us know what he says? We love Dan, he's a very sweet man and has his heart fully invested in trying to put back the puzzles of missing persons families.

Thank you very much for the contact. I will see what we can do about getting in touch with him. Maybe he can give us some good suggestions of " what do we do now?". It is hard to sit here and take you from beginning to end. As you all have seen there is lots of info out there with topix and so on. A lot to try and repeat, so that you all understand on here. I want you to understand, and I will do my best to answer what I can.

Duncan Creek map: That is the area where the girls were found. If you look on the map, go back to where Ducan begins off Wood School road. Go about 1/8 of a mile and that is where girls were found.

Jeffers Ridge map: Keep going up ridge, At the "A" mark follow it to till county road 29/13 changes to 29/17, Jeffers Ridge. There at intersection where it says, Jeffers ridge E and Jeffers ridge, there is a pile of rubble with what looks to be a garden or something off from it. Right at that intersection. The rubble is the burnt trailer. Glad you went to the trouble to look at these. At least it gives you an idea of what we see.

You guys are awesome! I'm Jeff's Aunt and I'm thrilled to have fresh eyes and thoughts on our case. The entire family is going crazy, trying to figure out what happened that awful night to all three of these young people.

I have spent many a late night, online....trolling different websites looking for clues and resources that might help us in our search for answers. We have had some wonderful people try and help us but unfortunately there is only so much anyone can do when the police don't want to help. Our only hope is that someone will slip up and tell what they know about that night.

Looking at the previous post with all the names that have been brought up on topix brings back alot of feelings. 90% of all those mentioned above are connected in one way or another.....looking at the names collectively reminds me of that!

Point Pleasant has a history of drugs, murder and missing persons. I believe there is even a Topix on that! We just want to know where Jeff is. We know from the deepest part of our hearts that he was murdered along with the girls that night, most likely the first one taken out that night. We know without a doubt that Marty, Brett and Clinton know what happened that night......Marty had the car, Marty made a statement to Sheriff Powell that Clinton burned the house (saw the statement myself) and poor little Brett was the recipient of a gunshot to the arm......supposed robbery attempt that he was able to escape from.....most likely a warning of what was to come if he ran his mouth about what happened that night.

From the very beginning when the Sheriff department was dragging their feet ....I said over and over again that the police were giving all those involved enough time to get their stories down. They gave all involved about 6 weeks to do just that. The SP didn't get involved until the girls were found and then they jumped onboard with Marty's story about Jeff and Ashley selling the car and then loading all their belongings into a black truck with SC tags and moving out of state. Funny thing was, all those belongings that Marty said they loaded in that mystery truck were laying on the ground out on Jeffers Ridge, burnt up! Jeff's mom even found a person item of Jeff's that was valuable that we knew he wouldn't have left behind intentionally because it could have been sold for some quick cash. Someone just plain overlooked it that night.

So sorry to go on and on......I've had so many conversations with the SP, written so many letters to the Governor and State Senator and have gotten no where. I'm alittle cynical.

Anyway, just wanted to say......Thanks for your help and thanks for caring.

That is a lot of names! lol. I will try to go through and give you what info I can on the ones I know anything about. Most of it has come from hear-say or topix. I don't know them personally. Just what was said, if it had anything to do with Jeff.

    Welcome, kjo!

I have a couple questions about Powell and the mustang. Is it a fact, or just Marty's word, that Powell wanted to buy the car off of Marty?
And how long did the mustang sit in impound? Did they even check the trunk for evidence? Where is the car now?

We haven't called the Bureau of Investigations yet. Kjo is right that, we have contacted Governor several times through this. We have begged FBI! We aren't the only ones to do this. Family of the girl's has done the same demanding answers. We are either "put off", " can't discuss", or flat out told " we just cannot help you". I did find the WV bureau of investigations is in Brigeport, WV. I just don't know if they could help us. If FBI can't step in, how could they?? Anything is worth a try , so we will see. As for Detctive Dan. I myself, don't feel comfortable calling some one I do not know. I will talk with Kjo and see how she feels about it.

I have spoken with the FBI. They are very kind, but say they cannot come in until the SP ask them to. We as family appreciate all everyone is doing to help us have closure.

ok - our cbi says - they are threw the atty generals office and the AG can assign investigators at there own discretion to work on cases w/ police - they don't need to be invited - if the AG wants - said if you can get the AG to help you, they can investigate - at least here - you can go to them directly or go to the the AG's office - you can show the police aren't doing there job, they can be really helpful

have you tried the atty general's office yet?

The thing about these kinds of investigations that are going to be hard for the fmaily is that the police cannot actually give every detail. IMO, what's going on here is that they sound like they are working on it, maybe even some leads but they can't disclose it.
Remember, if there is anything super sketchy, they have to keep certain information priviliged, even to the family. Some cases are more clear cut while others have some bumps in the road.
The FBI is unlikely to get involved, to be honest. You should be able to get a copy of the original police report. Like the first reports where people were reported missing. If you do have the ooportunity to do that, look over every single detail because LE is not without their faults.
My dad's missing reports is full of mistakes from listing his dad as his brother to saying that my father was on heart medications, etc.

As far as Detective Dan, I understand the hestitance but I also think you should revisit that feeling because at some point you are not going to care where or who that information came from as long as it's information. He may or may not be able to help but he may be able to point you in a good direction.
You also should ask the detectives working the case if you can give DNA samples. Have those done because if a body, heaven forbid shows up, having that DNA will help tremendously.
If you feel you arent getting the help you need thru the police dept, go above their head and file a complaint or simply ask 'are you working on leads and is this why you can't give me many answers?'. If they answer yes to that, give a little more time and check back up on it.
You can ALWAYS go above their head. You can also go to your local newspaper and ask for them to do an article again and again and again. Especially with their being a cash reward, I would absolutely do it.
Our local news was in on our story, we were in the paper multiples times, we put out flyers, we made sure tthe word was out.

Also, have you thought about hiring a private investigator? Maybe at least meeting one would help you get a litle bit of an idea on what next to do.

Right now, with everything going on in my life and my personal issues I can't do it. It has nothing to do with this case. I listed the number for them to contact and honestly, they need to take the steps to call.
I don't mean that in a bad way or anything, so I hope no one takes it that way. I gave advice and hope they can follow some of it. It may or may not help.

Not taking it the wrong way at all! Yes it would be kind of nice to see him on here first, to get a feel of him. I appreciate all the ideas and hope to get started. A letter to the Attorney's office might work, or call. We know the police can not tell us everything they know. That is understandable to solving any case. There are other underlying problems here. Too many things aren't right.Closer and Kjo are also family to Jeff and we will do what we can do. We have so far. All we can do.The ideas on here have ggiven us a fresh look at things and new options to move forward with. I thank you so much!!!! Please don't stop. We can use all the help we can get!
