WEST ISLIP ? Police say three people are in custody for their involvement in the New Year's Eve hit-and-run accident that left a teenager in critical condition. According to police, 16-year-old Ryan McCarthy was crossing Udall Road when he was struck by a runaway vehicle two hours before the strike of midnight. Following a six day investigation, police identified the driver of the vehicle as 25-year-old Kristofer Busching of North Babylon.

Ryan McCarthy was the 16 year old boy that was hit. Kris Busching is the driver of the vehicle that hit him (intentionally, allegedly).

West Islip, N.Y. (MorichesDaily) ? Suffolk County police announced Sunday that they arrested a North Babylon man in connection with a New Year?s Eve hit-and-run accident in West Islip that critically injured a teenager.

As a reader pointed out, the family and police have not officially released the victims name. Moriches Daily has removed the young victims name from this article until such time that the family or police officially give that information out to the public.

Shortly after authorities found the vehicle that struck the teen on New Year?s Eve police made the arrests.

The driver of the vehicle was Kristofer Busching, 25, of 150 Prairie Dr.

Busching was charged with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, fifth-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and petty larceny.

Police also arrested a passenger in the car at the time of the accident and the driver?s girlfriend, who police said tried to cover up the crash.

Police said they knew the make and model of the car that mowed down a teen in West Islip on New Year?s Eve and left him in a coma.

The car was a Chrysler 300 that has damage to the driver?s side headlight and side-view mirror.

Police say the driver hit the 16-year-old on Udall Road in West Islip on New Year?s Eve.

The teen was hit by a car around 10:30 p.m. New Year?s Eve on Udall Road and was found lying in the street unconscious.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where friends say he remains in a coma.

Police say the car would have damage to the driver?s side headlight, and the driver?s side mirror would be missing.

According to information from News12 (subscription only), police believe the teen was hit on purpose.

Rose Krowl, who lives near the scene, said the teen was walking with a friend when someone in a passing car started yelling at the two boys.

She claims the driver ?passed and then came back at him,? hitting the teen before taking off.

?We know it was done on purpose,? Krowl said.

Police say no arrests have been made in the case, and police have not given details about how they tracked down the vehicle.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash or the vehicle to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The girlfriend of a North Babylon man charged in a New Year's Eve hit-and-run accident in West Islip that left a teenager critically injured pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of hindering prosecution and conspiracy.

Appearing in First District Court in Central Islip, Manhattan-based attorney Stephen N. Preziosi entered the plea for Alicia Santamaria, 23, of 21 Brentwood Rd., Bay Shore, who was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond by Judge Ann Spelman. Prosecutors had sought bail of $100,000 -- or $200,000 bond.

Santamaria is charged with second-degree hindering prosecution, a felony, and fifth-degree conspiracy, though it is still unclear what role police and prosecutors believe she played in the alleged coverup.

Two others, including driver Kristofer Busching, 25, of 150 Prairie Drive, North Babylon, and Carlo Caamano, 19, of 1120 Namdac Ave., Bay Shore, face arraignment Monday afternoon.

Busching is charged with first-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, fifth-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and petty larceny.

News 12 Long Island reported that as Busching was led to his arraignment in handcuffs Monday morning, he told reporters: "I'm sorry. I didn't do it on purpose . . . I didn't mean to hit him. I didn't mean to."

Caamano, who authorities said was a passenger in the 2012 Chrysler 300 when it struck the teen victim, faces the same charges as Santamaria, as well as with criminal mischief and petty larceny.

The victim has been in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip since the accident.

His identity has not been released by police.

Police said the victim was discovered on Udall Road in West Islip at 10:26 p.m. on New Year's Eve. The three defendants were all arrested on Sunday, police said.

I bet she is being charged because she was hiding him and won't tell the cops what she knows.

I wonder what they were yelling at Ryan before they went crazy?

I heard they (all three) were bashing the car to add damage to it in an attempt to cover or skew the initial damage.

Not sure what they were supposedly arguing about, but what 25 year old argues with a 16 year old kid walking down the street

Pretty much. Can you fix the title? It reads the victim's name.
