It makes me sad too to see this place dwindle down to next to nothing. I'm still holding on to hope that people will finally get sick of the Zucking and censorship and make a grand return to message boards. It could happen. I have faith that perhaps MDS will get a second wind at some point.

I'm glad that you're still here and everyone else that's stuck around. People still come on and lurk here quite a bit, I think. The other issue is people who have forgotten their password. I guarantee that if there were an easier way to recover it that more people would be here, but it requires Mike to manually reset it and he's an absent father. I'm still waiting for him to come back from getting a pack of cigarettes. If he became more involved here again, it would liven up for sure. Maybe once the kids are older and he gets bored again.

Nothing will ever replace a good message board. It's still the best way of communicating online, as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. And your posts stay for eternity unless (as has happened in my case) a mod removes them for their sensitive nature.

I still remember my very first post, and it was a criticism of a young woman who had committed suicide. I thought it was a selfish act, and some other members very quickly educated me on the depths of hell that you must have to be in in order to even consider taking your own life...and years later I learned that the "spontaneous/crazy action/you may regret that" part of your brain isn't even fully developed until you're 26 or so.

Oh, the things we learn. And now I think of the kids I've taken care of, and the people I've lost since becoming a member so damn long ago. It's been a long road, but I loved it here, and I still do. It used to be pretty cool to look on the homepage to see "259 people are online, 22 members and 237 guests."

I was supposed to meet up with a few from here down in Dallas, years ago. Miller and Mr. F (RIP), pitluvr and one other member, and I had a baby shit all over me so I opted to go home instead of meet up after my shift. Dammit.

This is a stupid question but is blood only a biohazard if its from a dead person. I used to clean up large amounts of blood at the clinic and threw it away in the garbage.

Well, you aren't a workplace so nobody isn't going to bust you for it. However, technically it is biohazard. Diabetics have to dispose of their used needles as biohazard since it's broken the skin and come in to contact with blood, even thigh it's minute amounts. That and they don't wasn't users finding the needles and using them thereby coming in to contact with potential blood bourne diseases. That's why you don't share needles. We sometimes forget that helping sometime bleeding without gloves leaves us open to contracting stuff.

I may be wrong, but I believe that Angie worked in an animal hospital. Yes, you're SUPPOSED to dispose of anything with blood on it as a biohazard, however with animal hospitals they're not as strict about it.

Small amounts of it on tissues isn't a problem, it 's not like your son is going to eat the tissue and swallow it.

Biohazard is a general term for something that can cause a threat to life, and in general, blood can do that. If, say, you threw your bloody tissue on the ground and your child ate it (I know, he's older and he would never) but Hepatitis C can live for 7 days outside the body.

Yes I worked at an animal hospital. Some people would throw used syringes in the regular garbage and that was a huge no no. There were no rules about disposing of blood. Usually we used cloth and washed it.

They were very strict about deceased animals, even when the owners didnt want the animals back.

I know that Servpro does biohazard clean up. I spent a good hour talking with them about the cases that they've handled and who pays them. The family has to pay for clean up. Sometimes they can't afford it and they will donate their services, especially if it's suicide involving a minor.

That's what blows my mind. People are left to clean up the mess and it's terrible.

We have a gas stove and gas fireplaces. Now I feel like I should be worried.

I absolutely my gas appliances. When we built our new house 4 years ago we made everything we could be gas (dryer, stove, hot water heater, stand by generator) and I love it.

The study that is being highlighted lately is in California, but I've been researching and they say different states may have different levels of benzene, due to the source of the gas, but every state has it and it can cause cancer.

I think the other appliances are less risky, but I am thinking about replacing my stove since I can use wither gas or electric with the hookup we have. I don't want to do it, but I also don't want to negatively impact my health.
