Terrorist assault in Paris claims at least 128 lives

An attack on a bar in the French capital, Paris, has caused several casualties, French media report.

A gunman using an automatic gun opened fire at the Cambodge restaurant in the capital's 11th district. BFMTV says at least seven people were injured.

Liberation newspaper says a number of people have been killed. There is no official confirmation.

Another attack - an explosion - is reported to have targeted a bar near Stade de France

France were hosting Germany in a friendly match.

A BBC journalist at the scene says he can see 10 people on the road either dead or seriously injured.

He says police have now arrived.

60+ now with at least 100 hostages. Apparently they are holding them in a theater they were in to see a concert.

My coworker has a friend that lives there. She is telling her that they believe it is Syrian refugees who are attacking because France will not accept them.

"This is an attack not just on Paris, not just on the people on France, but an attack on all humanity and the universal values we share," President Barack Obama said at the White House. He called the attacks an "outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians."

Fuck! I've only just woken up and WTF! Eagles of Death Metal were playing in the Bataclan theatre where the second shooting took place.

    France Paris shootings Paris
Several simultaneous shootings in Paris, multiple casualties
    Latest update : 13/11/2015

French police officials and witnesses have reported an explosion in a bar near a Paris stadium, a shootout outside three Paris restaurants and a hostage situation in a concert hall, leaving at least 35 dead.

According to eyewitness Jim Carroll, 67, who was walking home to his apartment on Rue Bichat at the time of the attack on the restaurants in the 10th arrondissement, there was ?a loud explosion? followed by a sound like that of ?Chinese fireworks ? a long extended spattering that lasted for fifteen seconds.?

?Then there was another explosion and spattering that lasted for a few seconds like the first one,? he added. ?Within just a minute there were the sounds of the engines.?

Carroll reported a scene of ?chaos.?

Firemen and police immediately barricaded Rue Bichat and all the surrounding streets.

Authorities also evacuated Place de la R?publique and caused a flood of people to cross over the Canal Saint-Martin.

Ambulances are now on the scene.

One of the police officials said there was a separate explosion near the Stade de France north of Paris. It was unclear if the events were linked.

An eyewitness at the stadium filmed the field filled with spectators, which he described in a Tweet as a "surreal scene" filled with helicopters.

One of the police officials said there was a separate explosion near the Stade de France north of Paris. It was unclear if the events were linked.

An eyewitness at the stadium filmed the field filled with spectators, which he described in a Tweet as a "surreal scene" filled with helicopters.

Another police source reported 100 hostages and at least 15 killed in the Bataclan concert hall.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to be publicly named.

France has been on edge since deadly attacks by Islamic extremists in January on satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo and a kosher grocery that left 20 dead, including the three attackers.

One of the restaurants targeted Friday, Le Carillon, is in the same general neighborhood as the Charlie Hebdo offices.

The country has seen several smaller-scale attacks or attempts since, including an incident on a high-speed train in August in which American travelers thwarted a heavily armed Islamic radical trying to attack passengers.

French President Francois Hollande and Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced that a crisis cell had been set up.

"The president of the Republic, the prime minister, the interior minister are in a inter-ministerial crisis cell," the government said in a statement.

US President Barack Obama called the Paris attacks an "outrageous attempt to terrorize civilians".

The Paris municipality asked Parisians to stay home.

A friend of mine who is homies with the band says the band got out safely but the crew is still unaccounted for.

Either way this shit is insane, The Guardian has streaming updates.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/liv...ern-paris-live

People are asking why this would happen at 11pm but 11pm in Paris is like 7pm on a Friday in a US city...people eat dinner very late, shops are open, etc.

Yep. Band is okay. In other news:

Cue the Media Circus featuring the refugees. The Confederate Flag wavers are about to have a field day on FB. Brace yourselves.

Two gunmen killed at the Bataclan - AP

More details on the ending of that operation at the Bataclan:

The AP is now citing two Paris police officials as saying that security forces have ended their assault on the Bataclan, killing at least two attackers. Neither official could be named, citing ongoing operations throughout the city.

One official described “carnage” inside the building, saying the attackers had tossed explosives at the hostages. Both officials said they expected the toll of victims to rise.

The first thing I thought when they said the hostage situation was 'over' was that they weren't saying hostages were all let go.

I figured the shooters would do their best to kill most of them.

Awful, awful. And the Eagles of Death Metal aren't even a good band, really.

They're reporting 116 dead now. I guess that's the death toll added from the theater.

My friend just "checked in as safe " from Paris. How sad is it that we actually even need that feature.

ETA: correction. 116 FROM the theater alone. Sickening.
