I haven't been around the last week or so, mainly because I just had a dark cloud over my thoughts. Last Sunday (the 24th) one of my "dog friends" in Memphis had to disconnect life support on his 3 and a half year old daughter.
While in her mothers care, she somehow got out of her mothers sight and got into the pool. She was pulled from the pool unresponsive and was declared brain dead on Tuesday the 26th. Her dad made the selfless decision to donate her organs to help save 8 other children and on Thursday, they let her go.
I met Will (her dad) and her uncle Eric back in '08 at a Pit Bull Awareness Day. They were so nice and polite, and I was impressed with their kindness.... it was only a small example of the true human beings they actually are. Through the wonders of Facebook, I have kept up with these wonderful brothers and have continued to think that it has been an honor to know them through our love of dogs.
Will was grieving the loss of his daughter so much, but still was thinking of others, especially the little boy that received Ava Grace's heart. As much as he loves his daughter, he still wanted to give other children a chance to have a long life.
Ava Grace has left this world way too early, but thanks to her dad's wonderful decision, a part of her will go on and live in others.
RIP Ava Grace, you left this world way too early, and you will be truly missed... our loss is Heaven's gain. Into Paradise may the angels lead you.
