Mail carrier steps over dead man Dale Porch (46), mistaking him for a Halloween decoration

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
This unofficial postal motto doesn't say anything about a dead body. Still, a Denver woman is upset, claiming her longtime mailman failed to notice her husband had died on their doorstep.

"I hurt and I'm so angry," widow Hedy Porch told CBS Denver. "I'm angry because he stepped over my husband and put the mail in the mailbox."

The body of Dale Porch was found by his son last Friday outside his home. He'd just been dropped off at home by a coworker after working the nightshift when he collapsed and died before entering the house, CBS Denver reported.

"So in between 9 a.m. and noon when they found him, the mailman came, left the mail and just went on his merry way," Dale Porch's sister-in-law, Kimberly Cordova, said.

A spokesperson for the Denver Post Office says the mail carrier is extremely distraught and thought the body was part of a leftover Halloween display at the house.

"We do know the carrier delivered mail to the house that day, and he remembered seeing something he thought was related to Halloween," the post office said in a statement. "We know this carrier to be a conscientious and dedicated employee. He is someone who would certainly help a customer if he knew they were in need."

The coroner is still determining a cause of death. The carrier has since been moved to a different route.

    I giggled.

So, did the mailman just think the halloween decoration appeared that day only and after Halloween was over?

Not blaming the mailman at all. Maybe he thought the dude was drunk. Maybe he was just minding his own damn business.

Anyway, RIP dead man on the door step.

He sure did. Poor mailman. He even had to switch routes after all this.

Awww, I don't get why the mailman is getting all this flack. I doubt if what he was seeing looked real at all he would have done something. I mean, it's unfortunate that it was Halloween and he got passed as a prop, but not fair to be up in arms with someone who's job has nothing to do with paying much attention to anything other than giving mail to people in a timely manner for the post office.

People are always looking for someone to blame.

This is true, obviously the wife is just very sad and in pain over losing her husband. I hop the mailmain isn't feeling blamed. Did they really change his route?

It is sad. I know the wife has to be just looking for someone to blame. The last sentence in the article up there says they changed his route.

That had to be for damage control.

Yeah. I think so too since the wife's sister is also making statements against him. "He just left the mail and went on his merry way."

Why wasn't the wife doing the right thing and waiting with a beer for the husband at the door after work?

I don't get how you can make that mistake? I mean, maybe the guy was almost completely under it? Doubtful, but unless there were only a pair of legs sticking out from under the porch, I don't see how you can see a deady body up close like that and not realize what you're looking at.

His last name is Porch? Terribly ironic.

Why are they crapping on this mailman? It's not like the dude could have been saved by that point. I can see how he could just step over it without realizing what had happened. Case in point:

People tune things out all the time.

Whoa, good on you songbird. I didn't notice that for anything.

This article makes me think twice about the pair of legs we saw sticking out of the back of a car two days after Halloween.
