Yes, my guess is she was holding him so his feet were on the railing, which I'm sorry, I have seen parents do that and always thought is seemed stupid as fuck.

I agree with Bowie, especially in the pic posted (thank you Rachy!) one toddler is standing there by himself with no parent holding him. Could tumble over just as easily as this kid did!

Also, I've been at the zoo and I see how parents are paying any attention to their kids at all, because they're on the phone and shit. So just because a lot of people act stupid and irresponsible, that doesn't mean it's all a big whoopsie.

Yeah, I have seen the same thing...too busy to share the wonder with their child and talk to them about the animals. Yeah...spot on Bowie!

I know this is a re enactment but if she wasn't holding him...I mean really? Toddlers are unsteady on their feet!

I agree and I hope he wasn't up on that top rail like the video showed because that is just asking for a fall. Ugh. I'm sure the net below gives everyone a false sense of security. Nobody assumed he would double bounce out if he did fall.

Yep, I think that's what happened...I think she put him of the railing and was momentarily distracted. It says he " lost his balance almost immediately" insinuating she was NOT holding him at the time??

As for the pic, even the mom in blue holding onto the boy is only using one hand to lightly hold him...it would literally take one second of lifting her hand off him while distracted and he could fall. Dare I say it but thankfully this story has spread far and wide and parents may hopefully think twice while visiting zoo's from now on...me included.

But I read the net is actually there to catch small items like cameras and bags etc, not humans. I would have been highly unlikely the net would have saved him anyway??

As a parent of a small child, she's four, I can't believe no one jumped down to help/rescue. I like to think I'd have to be held back, but fortunately I've never been in that situation. I can't imagine what the Mom is going through. My sincere condolences to the family. This one hurts.

There was nothing anyone jumping in could have done except endanger themselves and others. The mother...father...I could understand having to be held back..passer byers...not so much because nothing could have been done the pack would have bought them down as well.

I can't imagine them NOT having a death grip on the child..that is what gets me. Cute kiddo...sad all the way around!

I'm thinking the fence could stand to be a little higher, it's only what, about 3 feet high? And it looks like lots of people put their children up there. I'd like to see a double fence or glass or something. Not saying this is the zoos fault, but kids are quick and it looks like grade school aged kids could easily climb up by themselves.

Because that is the breed, not the location.

Yea, but that's like saying "3 black teens attack white girl" as a headline. This shit is racist.

Come on, everyone knows all the good animals come from Africa.

What? African painted dogs come only from Africa. It's not my fault.

I like how the re-enactment video gives the mom an old mom butt, has her pants hiked up her butt, she's got a muffin top tucked down in those blue britches, and you can see her granny panty lines. So realistic. HA!

The kid might still be alive if his mom had a butt like that.

I cant see honestly blaming the mom anymore at this point. I wont be suprised if we dont see her as an article here in the future over this.

I dont think anyone at all has a right to sue over anything here. All the stuff I have read said that the zoo wasnt negligent in how the exhibit is structured. Parents need to take responsibility for their own kids.

I would dive in headfirst and kill those 12 wild dogs with my bare hands. Rawr.

Oh, I also don't see the point in shooting a dog if the kid is good and dead at that point.
