Scottsburg Police Chief Scott Zellers has advised that an apparent, accidental drug overdose took the life of a young Scottsburg man sometime on Monday or Tuesday, November 26 or 27, in the parking lot of a local business.
People coming to work at Big O Tires discovered the 2001 gray Dodge Stratus parked near the building on State Road 56 West early on Tuesday morning, November 27. When efforts failed to awaken the man behind the wheel, 9-1-1 was called. Dispatchers sent officers with the Scottsburg Police Department as well as Scott County EMS to the scene.
The young man was identified as Sawyer Jordan Pulliam, 22, Scottsburg. Chief Zellers said that witnesses’ statements indicated that the car may have been parked at the business on Monday night from about 8:30 p.m. on. The car was not running, and ignition keys were found in the passenger seat. County Coroner Kevin Collins pronounced Pulliam dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed by the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday, November 28.
Chief Zellers said his department’s investigation into the death is now complete. The coroner’s investigation will remain open until all results of the autopsy are received, advised Collins. Those results could take several weeks, he added.
The funeral was conducted at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg on Saturday, December 1. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established to benefit Pulliam’s children. On-line condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting
