James David Bandringa, 28, of Fort Worth, died on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.

He was remembered as a friend and supporter of Denton’s independent music and Do-It-Yourself scene. On Wednesday, friends recalled Bandringa as a “sweet freak” and a positive presence on social media sites. Friends of the young Fort Worth resident and University of North Texas history student gathered at a Fry Street bar on Tuesday to remember Bandringa and toast his memory.

By Wednesday, local musician and friend of the deceased, Daniel Rush Folmer, had organized “Songs for Rooster,” a concert scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Dan’s Silverleaf, 103 Industrial. The show is a fundraiser for the Bandringa family, with performances by Ryan Thomas Becker, Tony Ferraro, Daniel Folmer, Chris Garver, Warren Jackson Hearne, Will Kapinos, Kaleo Kaualoko, Paul Slavens and Isaac Hoskins. Cover is $5. All admission benefits the Bandringa family.

James loved to ride his bike and play the guitar. He enjoyed history and planned to teach it after getting his degree. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to travel, visiting historic sites and his many friends across the country.

He was born in Dallas to Siebe Bandringa and Claudia Roberts Bandringa. He studied photography at the University of Texas at Arlington before changing his major and moving to Denton.

James is survived by his parents; brother Michael and his wife Amy Bandringa and niece Kyndall of Fort Worth, aunts Sarah Phillips of Irving and Jodie Wood of Boyd, numerous cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Dr. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Jacksonville.
