Brett Cronin (23) arrested for giving a 13-year old a fatal heroin dose

WOODLAND HILLS (CBSLA.com) ? A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly giving a fatal dose of heroin to a 13-year-old boy in Woodland Hills.

Brett Cronin was arrested and booked for murder in connection with the death, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He's behind bars in Van Nuys in lieu of $1 million bail.

The incident happened around 9:10 a.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 5300 block of Manton Avenue.

Fire officials found the deceased teenage boy with no signs for cause of death.

Officers later determined Cronin administered the heroin, according to the LAPD's Richard French.

The suspect's motive is unclear. The investigation is ongoing.

That's so sad. It makes me feel like shit to know that her parents ever had to see her like that. I wonder how long she was on the floor like that? She doesn't look too stiff in the picture of her flipped over.

There were updates since those pics were released but i havent followed it.
I know the parents were upset because they called it heroin od and case closed, but the bf was with her before she died and they thought he had something to do with her death. i stopped following it after that.

A used to be good friend overdosed on something, not sure what it was but she was so out of it and she was laid up on her side in the same position for over 24 hrs. When she was found, all the blood was rushed to one side of her body and when they got her to the hospital, they had to open up her sides to release that pressure and get her circulation back to normal.
She's still fucked up.

This is why I always laugh on shows like Law & Order when people find bodies and they ALWAYS look like people sleeping. If you find a body, most likely you don't need a medical degree to know they're dead.

And usually I don;'t think giving drugs to someone should be considered a homicide, but a minor..? What is up with this case anyway?

darn. that confession article was interesting - but it doesn't seem so strange to me that he shot her up - the article said she quit and moved out the day before she died. you don't just quit! i imagine she was getting sick and couldn't handle her shit so he did it for her. i wouldn't really consider that a crime. really. not so much.

this other guy, though. you don't shoot a thirteen year old up unless you got some nefarious purpose up your sleeve.

Double agreed. I get slightly irate when families go after the drug dealers and stuff. Obviously what they do isn't respectable, but yeah, unless it's a 13-year-old, it kind of makes me sick.

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (KTLA) -- A 23-year old man is facing murder charges after allegedly providing heroin that killed a 13-year old boy.

The boy's body was discovered Wednesday morning at a home in the 5300 block of Manton Avenue in Woodland Hills.

Brett Cronin, 23, was arrested later that night after admitting that the heroin was his.

The boy, who hasn't been identified, was spending the night at his friend's house.

Neighbors say Cronin lived at the home with his grandmother, father, extended family and several young children.

Police originally thought Cronin had injected the teen, but now they think otherwise.

"Now it seems that the victim may have voluntarily injected the heroin that killed him," LAPD Officer Karen Rayner said.

The victim reportedly went into convulsions soon after the injection.

Cronin and another 13 year-old reportedly put the victim into a bed.

No one called for help until 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, but by then boy was dead.

An addiction expert told KTLA that a fatal dose of heroin would have caused the teen to stop breathing, fall into cardiac arrest and die.

Police say those are symptoms an adult should have noticed, and so they have charged Cronin with murder.

Off camera, neighbors said that Cronin's addictions were not a secret and that he often talked about "a sickness."

One of his favorite quotes listed on his Facebook page is: "I'd hate to advocate drugs and alcohol, but they've always worked for me."

Cronin's family was at the home during the incident, but were apparently unaware of what had happened.

"It's tragic and we are very sad about it," the suspect's uncle told KTLA.

"If the question is did we know that this was going on... absolutely not," he added.

Cronin is being held on $1 million bail.

silly ktla always tries to be dramatic with their pics and articles. They used to post pics of dead bodies, faces and all and then say oops! we forgot to blur it. LIARS! lol
