Judy Brauer said she is prepared for the worst: that her stylish, youthful 47-year-old daughter who has helped thousands of women with substance-abuse problems is dead.
?I don?t have a good feeling. I don?t think we?re going to find Christine alive,? Brauer said Wednesday, Aug. 8, in her Riverside home.
Christine Osborn-Stewart, 47, of Canyon Lake, has been missing since Saturday. She did not report this week to her job as a substance-abuse counselor for Riverside County. Aside from a 3 a.m. call Sunday to a sister in which she did not leave a message, Osborn-Stewart has not contacted anybody. She isn?t answering calls, and her phone?s voicemail is full.
?This isn?t like her,? said a brother, Frank Flatt, of Bermuda Dunes. ?There?s something very wrong here.?
Sheriff?s investigators said they believe Osborn-Stewart is with Lake Elsinore resident Joseph David Dorsey, 27, a violent felon whom the Sheriff?s Department also classifies as missing. Her BMW was abandoned near Dorsey?s apartment, Brauer said.
How Osborn-Stewart and Dorsey know each other is unclear, Sheriff?s Det. Robert Rosas said. She has lived with Daniel ?Blue? Loyle in the gated portion of Canyon Lake for the past six years. Loyle said he knows nothing concrete about how Osborn-Stewart met Dorsey, only ?stories and rumors.? Brauer said she believes her daughter met Dorsey recently. Osborn-Stewart?s supervisor at work said he didn?t know anything about the relationship.
Dorsey pleaded guilty to attempted burglary in June and was released on parole. In October 2006, he pleaded guilty to inflicting injury on a spouse or co-habitant, assault with a deadly (non-firearm) weapon with great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer or firefighter and battery on a peace officer. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Brauer said Dorsey is not the type of person who Osborn-Stewart would usually associate with. Her daughter has worked too hard to achieve self-respect, Brauer said.
LOVES HELPING
Osborn-Stewart has sons ages 18, 21 and 28, and five stepchildren. Osborn-Stewart, 5-foot-2 and 100 pounds, likes wearing nice clothes and styling her hair. ?She has the body of an 18-year-old,? Brauer said.
Osborn-Stewart has worked for the Department of Mental Health for 12 years, her supervisor, Mark Thuve, said by phone from the office in Hemet. Her disappearance has been difficult on her co-workers.
?Her energy is very positive and the entire staff love her to death,? he said. Thuve added that she feeds Hemet?s homeless.
Osborn-Stewart works in the Moms program, helping women who have drug, alcohol and mental-health troubles. Thuve estimated that Osborn-Stewart has assisted 3,000 people.
?She has done an excellent job. She understands the recovery process and she understands the illness,? Thuve said.
On her Facebook page, Osborn-Stewart wrote: ?I love working with women and children. Definitely my passion. MOMS PROGRAM ROCKS...LOVE ALL MY GIRLS....?
