The cruel heartless assholes that did this made some major mistakes. You will be caught and you will go down for this, and I mean everyone that is involved no matter what your part was in this. I think it's a case of denial. His mother wants to believe that someone other than Justin is responsible because that makes it easier on her. Just speculating, though.
