SLIDELL, La. - A Slidell woman is in the St. Tammany Parish Jail and charged with second-degree murder after she fatally stabbed her son's girlfriend early Sunday morning, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff?s Office.
Deputies were called to a home on Brookter Street just after 12:00 a.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. The victim's boyfriend met deputies and led them inside the house, where his girlfriend, a 27-year-old woman, was lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds.
The victim was identified as Tonya Knower, according to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Standing over the Knower was Joan Faye Hartman, 54, according to the sheriff's office. Hartman was yelling at the victim.
Knower was taken to Oschner Northshore Hospital where she later died. The boyfriend and Knower were living in Hartman's home, according to the sheriff's office.
Coroner Peter Galvan said that Knower was stabbed in the back and stomach.
"Mrs. Hartman was arrested at the scene and transported to the Sheriff's Slidell complex for questioning, during which she admitted to stabbing the victim," said a statement from the sheriff's office.
Hartman is still in the St. Tammany Jail without bond and faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted.
