Alexander Chulsky (25) and David Winoker (49) were killed in a tandem parachute jump

The Manhattan real estate mogul who died in a tandem parachute jump may have triggered the tragedy by accidentally knocking his instructor unconscious, officials revealed Tuesday.

David Winoker, 49, died in the plunge along with his Brooklyn-based instructor, Alexander Chulsky.

"When the chute was being deployed, the impact of Mr. Winoker's head jerking backwards may have struck the instructor," said Chief Joseph Ryan of the Plattekill, N.Y., police department, which is probing Friday's freak accident.

Damn. This would not be a way I would choose to go. Just thinking about seeing the ground getting close at the speed of light.

    RIP Alexander & David

Eeesh, those poor men. At least Alexander was unconscious--what a blessing. I hope both of them rest in peace.

I went skydiving in 1998 and loved it. I decided to go again this month on my birthday, only to learn, once I got to the airfield, that we couldn't jump because there were a few clouds in the sky. I'm planning to reschedule it next Saturday if the sky is clear. Accidents happen during skydiving, but they're not the norm.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but if he was knocked out as the shoot was being deployed, why would they still keep falling fast?

To be fair, light travels at 299 792 458 m/s. The standard terminal velocity in which a single free faller with closed chute travels is 56 m/s. Speed of light would rip their faces off.

Just giving ya shit, DT. I know what you mean. But it gives you an idea as to how slow free falling really is, eh? ;)

I static lined on my 18th. I used to want to get into it totally, but it's pretty expensive. I've paraglided since, otherwise, nothing. Lame.
