Former Auburn fullback and Handley High star Ladarious Phillips was among three victims killed and three others injured in an overnight shooting at an Auburn apartment complex, police there said today.
At a press conference in Auburn, Auburn police Chief Tommy Dawson said Phillips, 20, was among those killed. Also killed were Edward Christian, 20, an Auburn University student and former football player, and 20-year-old Demario Pitts.
John Robertson, 20, was injured in the shooting, the chief said, and was being treated at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Also injured was 20-year-old Eric Mack, an Auburn lineman, and Xavier Moss, 19. Moss was treated at a local hospital and released, Dawson said.
Police are searching for Desmonte Leonard, 22, of Montgomery, who has been charged with three counts of capital murder in connection to the shooting incident, Dawson said. Police from Auburn and Montgomery, along with federal marshals, are searching for Leonard, Dawson said.
The shooting took place at a party at the apartment complex, Dawson said, where a fight had broken out.
"This is a trying time, not only university students and athletes, but it's young people. It's six young people that have been shot,? Dawson said. ?As you can tell, the community is shaken by this and grieving today."
