Seriously? Glad he is dead. Feel sorry for the two little girls and the inevitable years of therapy but I am so glad they are ok.
Yeah, that was probably exactly his mindset, because he's fucking crazy. I never get why people are like 'how could this deluded murderer be so illogical? Doesn't he think through the long term consequences of his actions?'

Mayes' previously investigated for sexual and domestic abuse

    JACKSON, MS -

(WMC-TV) – Additional details about the man suspected of kidnapping Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters are surfacing.

Police records show that Adam Mayes was investigated in 2010 for sexual abuse.

Mayes shot himself when he was found Thursday night after being on the run with Alexandria Bain, 12, and her sister Kyliyah, 8, for nearly two weeks. The girls' mother, Jo Ann, and older sister, Adrienne, were found dead in the backyard of Mayes' home.

In the police report obtained by Action News 5, someone reported that Mayes was babysitting a 7-year-old girl when a family member walked in on them in the bathroom. The report said Mayes and the young girl were naked and he was shaving her legs.

The person who called in the report also claimed that Mayes had a stash of child pornography in his bedroom.

Later, investigators went to Mayes' home to speak with him. He was at work, but his wife, Teresa was home and gave them permission to walk through their home to gather information.

Teresa revealed that the 7-year-old girl and her family came to the Mayes' home a couple of times a month for weekend visits.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service was then asked to do a mail check on Mayes for 30 days. They also sent a "reverse" in an attempt to see if he would subscribe to a child porn mailing.

Investigators reported they found no signs of child pornography being received by mail; therefore, the allegations were unfounded.

Mayes claimed his sister made the accusations because she was mad at him and his wife, Teresa, for kicking her out of their house a few months prior.

WMC-TV is not disclosing the name of the 7-year-old victim due to the sexual nature of the allegations.

Two incident reports from 2009 reveals details about the relationship Mayes had with his wife, Teresa.

Officers were called to check on a domestic dispute at the couple's home in Jackson, MS. Mayes told them that he and his wife got into an argument about his niece. Teresa got mad, went outside, and got into their car.

A few months later, officers were called to the home again. Mayes told them his wife said she was not happy living with him and mentioned that if she committed suicide, she might be happy.

During talks with Teresa, she said she made that comment out of anger and had no intention of hurting herself.

It is mentioned in the documents that Teresa was a patient at a counseling center where she was being treated for depression.

Teresa is charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping in connection the murders of Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain, and the kidnapping of Alexandria and Kyliyah.

I was really hoping that he had some thing with their mom in the past and he wasn't a pedo.

I'm glad he's dead and the two younger girls are alive. They have a long road to hoe. I wish them well.

    Row. Dammit it's row.

Why would you hoe a road? Sorry pet peeve. Carry on.

Rescued girl tells sister: 'Now we can go home'

GUNTOWN, Miss. – Days of grueling searches for two young girls and the kidnapper who killed their mother and sister led to the kind of terrain that favors the hunted — high hardwoods and deep ravines near a red-brick church perched on a hill.

Specially trained officers had come up empty-handed for days but were following another lead Thursday evening after Adam Mayes was put on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List. Dozens of tips turned up nothing. This latest lead officers to the woods near Zion Hill Baptist Church, just a couple of miles from Mayes' rented mobile home in Guntown, where 31-year-old Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne, had been buried in a shallow grave.

The officers had searched the church and later split up and set out down two old logging roads leading deep into the forest. Just 60 yards down, Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Steve Crawford saw a little girl's head in the dirt. Within inches, another child. A few more inches, the man who proved so elusive.

A search that dragged on for days ended in seconds.

"Let's see your hands," the officers shouted.

Mayes pushed himself up to his knees, pulled out a 9 mm pistol and shot himself in the head. He didn't utter a word, and died a couple hours later at hospital.

Twelve-year-old Alexandria Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah sat up, subdued, within reach of Mayes' body. Crawford said they didn't cry, instead looking almost relieved.

"Now we can go home," Lt. Lee Ellington heard the older girl tell her little sister. Ellington was part of a team from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

Home was a place the girls hadn't seen since April 27, when Mayes, a friend they considered an uncle, killed Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain in the garage of their home in Whiteville, Tenn., according to police.

Mayes, a friend of Jo Ann's husband, Gary, had gone to the house the night before to help the family pack for a move to Arizona. Instead, police say he killed the mother and daughter, packed their corpses into a car, grabbed the younger girls and headed south with his wife to the mobile home in Guntown. Authorities have not said how they were killed or what time it may have happened.

Police say Gary Bain told them his wife and daughters were asleep when he went to bed at midnight and were gone when he woke the next day, but he figured the girls went to school and Jo Ann had gone somewhere, too. But she didn't answer her phone that day, and the girls never got off the school bus that afternoon.

At 8 p.m., he called the Hardeman County Sherriff's Office to report them missing. Police interviewed Mayes. Even Mayes admits to investigators on April 29 that he was the last one to see Jo Ann and the girls, but police said they had no evidence of a crime. And it first, it wasn't known if Jo Ann had willingly left and taken the kids with her.

On April 30, Jo Ann Bain's SUV was found abandoned on a country road in Tennessee. That same day, Adam Mayes was seen at a market in Mississippi with his usual long hair chopped off. He told another customer it will be cooler in the hot, brutal Southern summer; investigators would later warn he may have cut the girls' hair to disguise them, too.

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen said two days later that Mayes is a person of interest in the case but that there are no signs of foul play — not yet.

On May 4, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an endangered child alert, pleading for the public's help in finding the family. At first, investigators still said they have no evidence of a crime.

However, according to police documents, Mayes' wife, Teresa admitted her involvement around the same time. The documents show Teresa Mayes told investigators she saw Adam Mayes kill the mother and daughter in the garage of their home so he could abduct the younger children. Their bodies were loaded into a car, along with Adam Mayes, Alexandria and Kyliyah, and Teresa Mayes drove everyone some two hours to the mobile home in Guntown. Teresa Mayes also tells authorities she saw her husband digging a hole in the backyard.

On May 5, the Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an amber alert for the children in that state, warning that Mayes is armed and dangerous. That same day, investigators say two bodies are found buried in the Mayes' backyard. They are badly decomposed and are not identified as Jo Ann and Adrienne Bain until two days later.

By May 8, Adam Mayes' wife and his mother have been arraigned on charges of helping with the crimes, but there was still no trace of the two sisters. The girls told their rescuers they had gone three days without any food or water, so it's possible that's about the time they began hiding out in the woods, an area filled with old deer hunting shelters. Some investigators believe they were in the woods even longer before being found late Thursday, exhausted, dehydrated and itching with poison ivy.

Alexandria and Kyliyah's ordeal then came to an abrupt end, just a few miles from where their mother and sister had been buried. They were given water, whisked away in an ambulance, shielded by giant white sheets at the hospital so they could walk into the emergency room without the glare of news cameras.

Adam Mayes spared them. They were alive. Now it will be up to the fragile memories of young, traumatized girls to answer the questions nagging at experienced lawmen who worked long hours to find them: Where had they been? How did they survive in the woods?

And then there are the painful questions that need to be answered. Did Mayes hurt them? Did they watch their mom and big sister die?

But because Adam Mayes put a bullet in his head, people may never solve the biggest mystery: Why did he do all this?

"That was too good for him. He should have suffered just a little bit more," said Beverly Goodman, Jo Ann Bain's aunt. "I was hoping they was gonna take him alive 'cause I wanted some answers to some questions that probably will never get answered now."

I am curious as to how Gary Bain slept through his wife & the older daughter being murdered, and why Adam Mayes just let him sleep without killing him too if he thought the mom & older girl were in his way in a plan to kidnap the other two girls. I also hate how you never saw Gary on the news talking about the kidnapping or the other two girl's biological father pleading for their return. This whole story is so weird.

I don't think they were killed in their home while Gary slept. They were allegedly killed in the garage and I believe they were strangled? Right? So that could happen pretty quietly. I don't know if it's attached or detached and that would make a difference too. Lots of stuff could happen in my attached garage, and I'd have not idea.

As far as going on TV to plead for their return, well I've always thought that was a worthless thing. Anybody sick enough to kidnap someone is probably psycho enough to get their jollies out of hearing the pain and terror of their loved ones.

Maybe the authorities thought seeing the real dad(s) on TV could have set the asshole off.

I think I read somewhere they killed the mom in the garage but the older daughter in the house. Gary said they were all asleep when he went to bed. They supposidely arrested 3 other people in connection to the case but are not releasing details or names yet. I guess I can kind of see why the husband/father would not be visible but it still just seems weird.

I think this is actually a pretty good theory, since the guy was deluded and obviously a threat to the kids.

that's what i was was wondering too. i had this whole idea that pop's convinced crazy ex-brother in law to do him a solid and get rid of the wife and step-daughter so he could take sole possession of his real kids... but reading about the conditions they were kept in and the guy's history as a pedo, that blew my theory away. this time, i think, the truth to this story is just the truth to this story.

well, ok! but let's see what happens when i do...... this!

apparently jo ann and adam did have a brief relationship.

"At one time, there was a relationship, a brief relationship between him and my cousin Joann. Yes I do believe they had an intimate relationship at one time," she continues.

Custody Battle Could Separate Surviving Bain Sisters

(Whiteville, TN) This past April 27, many lives changed due to the actions of Adam Mayes.

That’s the day Mayes murdered two people then kidnapped two young girls.

Mayes’ wife Teresa told police he wanted to kidnap 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain and her 12-year-old sister Alexandria. In the process, Teresa Mayes said 14-year-old Adrienne Bain and her mother Jo Ann were murdered.

May 10, Mayes killed himself and the two girls were rescued and sent home.

Since then, we’ve learned the two girls have different fathers and that could lead to more troubles for them.

More than a year ago, Mark Johnson signed over the fatherly rights to his daughters, Adrienne and Alexandria to Jo Ann Bain’s current husband Gary Bain.

Mark Johnson now wants his surviving daughter, Alexandria, back.

“It was a tough deal for him. He didn’t look at it like he was giving up his kids, but him and Jo Ann and Gary sat down and had a good agreement of what they were doing and why they were doing it. Now that Jo Ann is not in her life, he just wants to get her (Alexandria) back.”

That’s according the Mike Johnson, Mark’s uncle.

Saturday, Mark posted on his Facebook page that he didn’t care who he made mad, he needs a good lawyer to get his baby back.

His uncle believes that custody battle could be tough, “He signed his rights away and I think once you do that, if you go through the court, then it’s going to be a tough deal to get it back unless, Gary is providing and willing.”

But the Johnson family believes Gary is not willing.

Mark said Gary Bain is trying to take the girls to California.

He said Gary wants to spread the ashes of Jo Ann and Adrienne on the beaches there, and is afraid Alexandria and Kyliyah will never come back to Tennessee.

“I hope that Alex gets to come back with Mark and gets to bond with our family back with Mark,” said Mike Johnson.

Teresa Mayes is charged with two counts of first degree murder and four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping.

Mary, Adam Mayes’ mother is charged with four counts of being an accomplice to kidnapping.

You click on the star under the persons name/avatar in their post. Then you click 'I approve' or for a smite, 'I disapprove'.
