Heather Padilla (28) drowned when her boyfriend drove their car into a lake

Delaware County police still don't know how a New Castle woman drown while her felon boyfriend escaped death when a car they were in went into Fudd's Lake southeast of Muncie on Monday.

Heather Padilla, 28, was pronounced dead at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital more than four hours after the incident from an apparent drowning. Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn was still awaiting results of an autopsy on Tuesday.

Incredibly, her reported boyfriend, David Kline, 28, got out of the car and swam to safety. then telling people who manage the pay pond to call police.

County police Capt. Richard Pickett said the two had been camping at the site off the Muncie Bypass and U.S. 35 and police were still looking at how the car went into the lake. Kline did not face immediate charges, pending drug and alcohol testing and further investigation.

He does face charges of possessing a handgun by a serious violent offender and has been convicted of various alcohol and property related offenses.

Police used divers and boats to locate the care and remove the victim from it. While paramedics and hospital staff tried to revive Padilla hoping the cold water would extend her life, she later died.

Jason Rogers, the county emergency management agency director, was on the scene helping coordinate the search and rescue with more than a dozen public safety officers.



One of my friend's was close friends with Heather. She's always thought the boyfriend was shady. I logged onto FB this morning and see this:

Just checked FB. The mother of the deceased received a text msg from Heather's phone last night. The phone was not found in the car with Heather. I so hope this doesn't turn into one of the regular twisted threads we have about a man killing his woman and trying to hide it :(

I don't know if it will help, but a petition has been created to request Heather's belongings be turned over to her sons. Signatures would help. This is the only was the family and friends feel like they can do something for these boys.

found out that he finally returned most of her belongings, including the lap top. however, he sold some of her clothes to a local popular consignment store called Plato's Closet. his electric bill was also in her name. the bill was a total of over $900 and he got angry that the family had his power shut off.

my friend who knows heather should be signing up shortly to add more info. They've been contacted by people who have a past with David with some alarming stories. I guess his mother died by stabbing in ohio like 2 years ago and it was never solved. this isn't over by a long shot.

heather's uncle is emailing him from it asking him what happened that day. so far he wouldn't cooperate with police right after the accident, now he's told 4-5 different stories about what happened.

So some new events have occured. This comes from one of my best friends who was super close with Heather (I never met Heather). My friend is the one who started the campaign to get Heather's belongings from David. They are still pursuing an investigation into Heather's death. Which is starting to happen I guess.

Talked to my friend Sara on Thursday. Amy Kline, David's wife (he was seeing Heather while seperated from Amy, then went back to Amy after Heather's death) was found in an abondaned house. She had been severly beat and od'ed on Methadone (David sold his grandmother's methadone) I don't know the time frame but she was brought to the hospital and was on life support. Since they were still married, David had the choice and chose to pull the plug on Amy. He then left the room and / or the hospital. When he came back, he made a scene because Amy had not died yet. Security was called, he got away, and then tried to set the hospital chapel on fire (wtf? and no arrest? wtf!!!!) Someone told someone who told someone else, Amy got in a fight and was beat up by David. She tried to go to her mother's but her mother wouldn't allow her to stay. She went back to her and David's place, he gave her approximately 25 methadone pills. She od'ed and lost control of her bowels. They bathed her, put clean clothes on her (no underwear though) and took her to the abandoned house. This was a big girl so he would have needed help.

So, David's last 2 women have died in a matter of 3 months. Between Heather and Amy, there are 6 children who are now motherless. Heather's oldest started kindergarten yesterday. Too many coincidences...

I dont think he forced them on her. I have a feeling she took them willingly. I know pills in that crowd / area are common. I dont know about tolerance, but she was a big girl. I have no idea how much it woould take to cause someone to od and die.

my gut tells me she was a junkie, but i still wondered on what planet 25 methadone pills sounded like an okay number to swallow. then again, i don't know how methadone dosing works (especially factoring in addict tolerance), and i definitely don't know if she was in the mood for suicide.
