How do you "get to know a dog"? Hang out with it a bit? Ask it about sports, politics, it's opinions on baby mauling? How exactly would you get to know a dog as it relates to it's tendency to attack babies?

because you dont know how aggressive a dog is until you live it with for awhile and see what can set it off.
If its a puppy youve raised you already know its past exprience, if its a dog you have adopted you need to feel it out for awhile.
Especially around people and other dogs

This isnt rocket science dear its common sense

Give him a second to hardly read anything and he will go ahead and change his tune while reiterating something someone else has already said.

Getting to know the dog will only give you a feel for what sets it off and how aggressive it is, but you still won't be able to predict what it does.

I DO get exactly what youre saying. You never CAN Know a dog. As asshole as he comes across, this point is actually right on. Even if its a dog youve had for 10 years, you never know exactly whats running through his mind. this is why we hear stories about the ever gentle family sweetheart dog mauling the 5 year old. This is why No matter what kind of dog you think you have, Extra care and precaution must be taken around children. NO MATTER WHAT

I never said anything about predicting his behavior.

Hey, you take precautions with kids around people too. I trust people MUCH less. I dont even allow my friends to my house because thats where I keep my kid. I call 50 times if I have to leave her with my mom. I barely survived that woman.

Never leave your kid alone with dogs OR MEN! EVAR! Unless, of course, it's Nutz, because he babysits and is the only man on the planet who is trustworthy. Plus, he's got towels.

McGrew family dog bites sibling of mauling victim

It has been less than a year since 2-month-old Aiden McGrew was killed when he was mauled and dismembered by a dog in his family home, all while his father was sleeping.

Now his older brother has been attacked by another dog in the McGrew household.

News 2 has been following the story closely since last April, and we learned that Berkeley County deputies responded to Jennifer Drive in Ladson after receiving a complaint.

According to the report, the child had significant puncture wounds to his right cheek and nose caused by a dog bite.

In April 2012, the McGrew's 2-month-old son, Aiden, was in an infant swing, while his father Quintin McGrew slept. Authorities say Aiden was dismembered and killed by a dog in their home. The coroner listed Aiden's death as homicide.

Quintin McGrew was charged with illegal conduct toward a child and has yet to go to trial for that case.

News 2 reached out to child's mother Chantel McGrew for comment.

"I have nothing to say about it," McGrew said. "I've already had everything investigated, and it's going through the investigation process and that's all I have to say. If you need to know anything, contact my attorney."

The Department of Social Services is now investigating the most recent incident. A DSS official tells News 2 they are not aware of any plans to remove the children from the home.

Authorities took the family's other two children, a 7-year-old and 3-year-old, into custody hours after the April 2012 attack.

A trial date for Quintin McGrew is expected to be set over the next week.

They got their kids back in June, but lost them for a second time in August after their 7-year-old daughter told counselors that she saw homemade porn films of her parents and watched them engage in a sexual threesome with a woman.

??? Surely not the same dog?

I'm starting to wonder if the parents were abusing the dogs or encouraging them to be aggressive.

They went and got another dog?? WTF?? If my sibling was eaten by a dog, I would be either terrified of all dogs, or filled with rage toward all dogs. Neither is a safe situation.

Shame the kids are the ones looking Darwin in the face.

WTF? If a dog mauled my child, I would NEVER own another one. I know one bad apple shouldn't ruin the bunch, and I am in NO way saying all dogs would do this, but fuck, I would be traumatized for life. These people are stupid. And so is the father...whenever my baby slept, I slept too...but I had the baby with me. Not outside my door....just what in the fuck? And if baby was sleeping in a crib (which is wasn't), then dad should have had a baby monitor. I woke up to every sound my kids made after they were born. GAH!!!
I'll do whatever it takes to be the mistake you can't live without.

McGrew family member says boy is fine after dog bite

Charleston, S.C. (WCIV) -- Chantel McGrew told ABC News 4 to talk to attorney Andy Savage for any comment on a recent dog bite incident involving her 3-year-old son.

McGrew and her husband Quintin have not been charged, but both the Department of Social Services and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident.

"As I understand it, the child was sleeping and fell off the bed and fell on to the dog which was sleeping on the floor and the reaction of the dog was what caused the bite," said Laura McGrew, Quintin's step mother.

Laura McGrew says she did not see the dog bite the child.

According to the incident report filed on Jan. 3, the 3-year-old had significant injury to his face, including a puncture wound on his right cheek and to the left side of his nose.

"He was just an older dog and I believe he was startled; it was a bad situation," said Laura McGrew, who added the boy bounced back quickly from the injury.

"We did take him to the doctor on Friday just to make sure and they gave him some cream for his wounds, which are healing just fine," said Laura McGrew.

She says the yellow lab named Lucky is now living with family friends.

"That dog has been removed from the home. It's not in a home with any children anymore, but our dog that was living in the home when that one was brought in is still here. He is innocent;he has not done anything," said McGrew.

Reaper, the family's pit bull mix, and another small dog still live at the home with the McGrew family.

The McGrew's attorney has not returned calls for comment.
