The "New Posts" button under Home on the upper left of your screen helps see what has been posted since you last hit that button. It's not the same but it helps a little bit.

Anyone having trouble logging in and staying logged in? I keep getting the error, then it works for a few pages, then, logs me out. Rinse. Repeat.

After having completed my post, which took some time since my eyes are bad, I was told I didn't have permission to perform such a function. What is the problem. This certainly doesn't give a very good impression to new members.

I have changed you from an "untrusted user" to a "trusted user". That should fix the issue.

that happens to me sometimes because I do not click on the "remember me" box when I log in, and if I let the page idle for a bit, it kicks me out. I usually just copy the post I was trying to make, click on the previous page and log back in at the top, then post the comment.
