Extremely. I don't think I've made it a secret that I was a meth addict. This June will be 8 years clean. Still, I remember those days, the all nighters with shady people. Literally you were immersed in an outlaw world with the level of people that I knew. Mexican mafia, cooks etc. I used to get an eightball a week simply for hiding a canister of anhydrous in a garage freezer. Really dumb crazy shit.
I hate how some people comer across as "Well she was doing meth, so she hung around bad people, so that's what she deserved or it's not suprising."
Nobody deserves what happened to Carina. She was a beautiful girl, about my daughter's age, that was making some bad choices. I think most of us made some really shitty decisions at that age.
This case, especially her captions to her pictures, are haunting to me. It's apparent she was addicted, not happy about it and depressed.

I think the point is more that it is a bit naive be astounded that a girl who was known to make questionable decisions and keep company with people who were tight with shady folks would be harmed by said shady folks.
Goes back to a squabble that's been on this forum enough times already that ended with a lot of butthurt. Making stupid decisions that directly or indirectly result in tragedy does not equate "deserving," but does have a certain "well what did you expect? Rainbows sprinkles?" quality to it.
It absolutely goes without saying that if you run with bad folk, bad things are likely to happen. You see it all the time.
It's just with this story, the extreme level of the "bad thing" is what's astounding. Sure, girls get raped, beaten, murdered, etc. But for fucksake, did they have to torture AND BEHEAD her?

Pulling girls off the street seems like the most feasible, cost-effective method.

and then let them go back out onto the street where they call their friends to come pick them up and are acting all shaky and in shock? if i witnessed that, i would immediately go to the police. waiting to go to the cops until you read a news report that a beheaded body was found puts you fully in the 'has some stake in it' category.

that or you put them into your debt - sex trafficking girls from out of the country reliy on the promise of a new life to get the girls to come along and then a complete 180 when they get here. at this point, the girls are completely alone. isolated, they don't know the language, laws or layout of the land. kidnapped.
either way, the girls are presented with a choice that sounds good to them at the time.

Runaways get caught up in sex trafficking. The poverty-stricken, addicts, and abuse victims are targeted a lot, with promises of a better life. Randomly snatching bitches off the street? Not so much.
If a "friend of a friend" is all kinds of shady to this degree, I'd reevaluate my friendships. I have totally dropped friends because I'm not a fan of the company they keep. Hanging with folks KNOWN to run with people this fucked up is just not smart. But meth doesn't really have a reputation for helping people make rational decisions, does it?

When you're deep off on this world,, you're constantly meeting new people, friend's of friends etc. Not yanked from the street.
from posts i've read from you, i feel like you know what you're talking about... that's what i'm talking about. all the reports are saying that these girls did drugs (at least carina did) but were not into criminal activity - you don't get cozy enough with the criminal type that they would do something like this to you unless you're deep into that shit. sounds like a bunch of 23= 6 shit to me.
not that i'm saying in any way that these girls deserved what happened to them! i think it's probably the most horrific situation to find yourself in, ever, and i don't think i would survive one day after witnessing such an awful thing. but i'm weak! that girl who saw the whole thing happen is likely fucked up ever after. it's the stuff nightmares are made of.
