I read Dr. Sleep by Stephen King.

    Spoiler....

I'd give the book a B- or C+ (depending on which mood I'm in) I didn't think it was anywhere near as scary as the Shining was. No way. Actually, on my scary scale, I would give it a F. The reason I would give it a high score.....b/c it did hold my attention from start to finish. That is a decent book that can do that.

I thought it was a much better book than the last few ones that SK has put out. I def. think SK lost some of his mojo when he quit drinking.

    I loved the character Abra.
The top hat lady- Blah. That was a stupid character. For one thing, she was supposed to be scary. She was never scary b/c the little girl always beat her at every turn. The top hat lady couldn't even haunt Abra's head right without getting her butt kicked. The top hat lady didn't even know about Doc at all. She was a lame/bad character, IMO. Hell, she couldn't even keep her band of gypsies together and united.

Does anybody ever read a book...and in their own head...they start changing the story to make it better? I do that all the time. I kept making the top hat lady much more scary and evil in my own head than she was in the book.

Can someone recommend a good book? Fiction, prefer crime based etc. Or true crime. And available in e-book?

I love Patricia Cornwell. Even though some of it is chaotic from when she was having "issues" - love.
Jonathan Kellerman too. Real brain candy stuff.

Try Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder series. I'm a huge fan of crime fiction, and he's my favorite. I'd recommend starting with either "When the Sacred Ginmill Closes" or "Eight Million Ways to Die."

Bumping. I'm currently on book 5 of the Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. Easy, interesting reads. It's a costly addiction lol

OMG, thank you for the bump, Olivia! I've never seen this and am a voracious reader. I'm gonna start mining my way through it now for recommendations.

There's a longer thread somewhere too - I think possibly in removed topics.

Jackie Collins died from breast cancer.

    http://www.people.com/article/jackie-collins-dead

Collins, who sat down with PEOPLE on Sept. 14 at her Beverly Hills home for what would be her last interview, had no regrets about the decision to keep her cancer journey private while she embraced a very full life until her very last days. "Looking back, I'm not sorry about anything I did," she said during the far-ranging interview that saw her spirited, warm and utterly at peace.

"I did it my way, as Frank Sinatra would say. I've written five books since the diagnosis, I've lived my life, I've travelled all over the world, I have not turned down book tours and no one has ever known until now when I feel as though I should come out with it," said Collins, whose treatments over the years included a lumpectomy, radiation and various drug courses and combinations.

"Now I want to save other people's lives."

She was one of my favorite smut writers ever. The "Lucky" books are some of my favorites.

(I don't mean smut in a bad way. It's what my husband and his friends call my romance books)

So I'm about 35% of the way through this book right now:
The Light of The Fireflies by Paul Pen
It is EASILY one of the most fucked up books I've read in a long time. Some of the paragraphs are so insane that even my little warped MDS brain shudders.
    It's on Kindle Unlimited.

I finished this one a while ago, it was very fucked up but very good. I recommend.

His writing didn't change because he got older......it changed because he got sober.

I'm very excited that the dark tower is being made into a movie.

11/23/63 is one of my favorite books. Has anyone seen the mini-series on it?

Well that actually explains a lot.
The books were great. I'd like to see that.
