David Canterbury (33) attacked multiple people with a toy lightsaber in Toys R Us.

PORTLAND -- Portland police wrestled a man to the ground who had reportedly been swinging a 'Star Wars' light saber at customers in a Toys R Us store at Jantzen Beach, said Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Officers were dispatched to the store shortly before 10 p.m., Wednesday on reports that the man had already assaulted three customers with the toy sword. None of them was injured.

Before officers arrived, dispatchers were told the man had walked out into the parking lot, still swinging the sword. Police found the man in the lot talking incoherently.

An officer tried to use a Taser, but the device failed. A second Taser also failed after the man used the light saber to break one of the wires, Simpson said.

Officers then rushed the man, taking him to the ground as he struggled violently and continued to shout nonsense.

David A. Canterbury, 33, was placed on a police hold at a hospital for a mental evaluation. This photo is from a September, 2011 booking into the Multnomah County jail.

He was cited for three counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree theft, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer.

He was scheduled to appear in court Jan. 11.

Dude, if I had been in the store, I totally would've picked up another light saber and started battling him with it.

I wonder how hard that fool was swinging on people. Craziness.

The tasers didn't work, huh? The force must have been with him.

Glad I'm not the only one who caught that. News websites have HORRIBLE spelling/grammar/structure. I am always leaving corrections in the comments, but I doubt they ever read them.

It's horrible. I have excellent spoken grammar, and fairly shitty spelling, but he'll, do they even read what they write out loud? Horrible.
