COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A Colorado Springs man is caught in the middle of a child sexual assault case. He says he knows the suspect, photographer Glen Godec, the two child victims, and the victims' mother. The friend, who declined to be identified, spoke exclusively with KRDO Newschannel 13 at his home Monday night. He said he learned of the situation about a month after the police investigation began."It was through (the victims') mom," he said. "She had called me up, just hysterical that all of this was going on. Just needed a friend to talk to. She discovered (the assault), then confronted her daughter about it. Her daughter didn't think anything really was wrong, until her mother said that it was."The friend said Godec lived with the mother, and that they'd been in a relationship since shortly after the youngest victim's birth."As soon as all of this stuff came to light, she got him out of the house right away," the friend said. "They'd been doing counseling and therapy. He's been calling and trying to get back in her good graces. She just isn't having it."The friend said he last saw the daughters, Godec's alleged victims, about a month ago. The eldest, age 11, was enrolled in a dance studio where Godec snapped photos, said the friend.Police said Godec repeatedly touched the eldest daughter inappropriately and watched pornographic videos in her presence, while the youngest daughter, believed to be age 7 or 8, appeared in several pornographic images. The investigation began at the end of July. Godec was arrested Dec. 6."It's a long road for (the girls)," the friend said. "They don't want to be around any guy in a closed room by themselves. They're just trying to be regular girls now."The friend said the incident has led him to reflect on the safety of his five-year-old son and his own emotions."I think the anger part is finally gone," the friend said. "I've known for a little while and have had time to calm down. I'm ecstatic that they finally did something about it after all this time."The friend and a dance studio owner said Godec's family owns Godec's Photo Supply on Weber Street downtown. However, a man working at the shop told KRDO Newschannel 13 that Godec did not work at the shop and has no affiliation with it.The alleged crimes are believed to have happened at Godec's home and not in a public place where he may have been doing photography. But police are asking parents of middle schools and dance studios Godec may have worked with, to come forward if they suspect their children are victims.
