The identity of the man who jumped from the Santa Rita Road overpass onto I-580 has been released by the Alameda County Coroner's Office, although the identity of a second man, found dead in a sleeping bag, has not.
The coroner's office named the apparent suicide victim on Dec. 1 as Daniel Robertson, who had been a resident of Fremont. Robertson leaped off the overpass just after 6 a.m., where he landed on the 580 freeway and was struck and killed by a tractor trailer.
The second man, who was discovered dead by a bicyclist, has been identified. His name is still being withheld because the coroner's office has yet to locate his next of kin.
Police do not believe foul play was involved. The bicyclist called police after finding the man, in his late 30s or early 40s, lying dead in a sleeping bag.
The bicyclist who found the body told police he had seen the same person, alive, about one week earlier.
That man was camped under an overpass near the I-580-Hopyard Road exit. As of last week, his belongings remained scattered through his encampment, including a bicycle clothes and a guitar, mixed with food containers and liquor bottles.
The coroner's office said that man's family has proven difficult to contact.
