Was missing prosecutor killed by Hell's Angels?

    http://www.ibtimes.com/ray-gricar-di...ts-yes-1409182

The disappearance of Ray Gricar is one of the most tantalizing missing-persons cases in recent memory. Over the eight-plus years since the Centre County, Pa., district attorney vanished on April 15, 2005, few clues had emerged -- until now.
Missing DA Ray Gricar Killed By Hells Angel, Source Says
Ray Gricar, the Centre County, Pa., district attorney who disappeared eight-plus years ago, may have been killed by a Hells Angel, according to a new report

According to the Altoona Mirror, the FBI, Pennsylvania State Police and Bellefonte Police Department have joined forces to follow up on a claim that the missing DA was murdered by a former member of the Hells Angels biker gang. ?It?s ongoing,? Bellefonte police Det. Matthew Rickard said of the investigation.

The Altoona Mirror said a source contacted the newspaper in May with new information about the case, claiming that the person responsible for Gricar?s murder was a former Hells Angel-turned-FBI informant who served time in prison for aggravated assault in the late 1990s.

The Mirror checked Centre County court records, which confirmed that a Hells Angel did in fact receive a multiyear prison sentence for aggravated assault, and had worked as an FBI informant during his stint with the biker gang beginning in the early 90s, providing authorities with information about ?illegal activities? of various motorcycle gangs after he served five years of a 12-year sentence.

According to the Mirror, the source claims that Gricar?s ?knee caps were spun? and his throat was slit. He is allegedly buried in a shaft that also holds the bodies of four other people, as well as a stockpile of guns. The source wouldn?t take authorities to the exact location of the shaft, saying he wanted immunity to avoid incrimination in other cases.

The source also told the Mirror that he decided to come forward because he believed the man in question to be dead. But it has since come to light that the former Hells Angel-turned-FBI informant is alive and living in another state.

The disappearance of Gricar was brought back into the limelight during the Jerry Sandusky child sexual-abuse investigation at Pennsylvania State University. As Deadspin pointed out, Gricar decided not to press charges against Sandusky when the mother of one of the victims came forward in 1998 claiming that Sandusky had sexually abused her son in a shower. Some speculated that the cases were somehow connected, but there has been no evidence to back up that claim.

On the morning of April 15, 2005, Gricar left his office in the Centre County courthouse and called his girlfriend, Patricia Fornicola, to tell her he was going for a drive that would take him along Route 192, according to Deadspin. When Gricar didn?t come home, his girlfriend reported him missing. His car was found the next day in Lewisburg, Pa., with his mobile phone inside. His laptop was discovered in the Susquehanna River, but the hard drive was missing. Two months later, the hard drive was found on the banks of the river, but it was too badly damaged to recover any information.

Deadspin reported that investigators revealed that somebody used Gricar?s home computer before his disappearance to conduct an Internet search with the following phrases: ?how to wreck a hard drive,? ?how to fry a hard drive? and ?water damage to a notebook computer.?

Gricar served as Centre County district attorney for 20 years, from 1985 to 2005. Six years after his disappearance and with no evidence as to his whereabouts, he was declared legally dead in 2011.

PENN STATE UPDATE: An interesting twist in the Jerry Sandusky case

    WRLTHD Breaking News
The Jerry Sandusky case has just gotten much more interesting. In 1998, Ray Gricar was the
Centre County District Attorney. According to the Sandusky Grand Jury report, in 1998 Gricar decided not to prosecute then-Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky after evidence that Sandusky had molested a young boy was brought to his attention.

Seven years later, then-District Attorney Ray Gricar went missing. His car was later found abandoned, and his laptop was found in the Susquehanna River, without a hard drive and damaged beyond repair. Police reported that before he went missing, he had researched ?how to destroy a hard drive? on his home computer.

While still early in the Sandusky trial, and a leap to assume that the two incidents are connected, Gricar?s reasoning not to prosecute Sandusky will never be known. There is no proof that Gricar had heard of the 2002 shower incident, and whether Sandusky had gone missing because of the Sandusky allegations will probably never be known. However, it does add an interesting twist in the recent allegations, and more information of Gricar?s disappearance may surface in the coming months as the case moves forward.

Authorities are looking into whether the man pictured above at left is former Centre County prosecutor Ray Gricar, who was just declared legally dead.
Investigators in Centre County are checking with authorities in Utah to see if this John Doe prisoner might be the prosecutor who has been missing for more than six years.
Basically, a man who is about the same height and weight as Gricar was arrested on misdemeanor charges, but refused to give authorities his name. His fingerprints had no match to anyone in the system.
He is estimated to be in his late 60s or early 70s. Ray would be 65 if he was alive today.
At the request of Gricar's only daughter and sole heir, Lara, a Centre County judge declared Gricar deceased by law. It means his estate can be distributed, but it won't stop investigators from following up on leads, like this one.

If Gricar were to be found alive after being declared legally dead, his estate would probably not be affected, but there are no cases like that in Pennsylvania history.

You guys don't think the inside of the ears is totally different? I know he's not smiling in the more recent versions, but shouldn't all those deep laugh lines on the younger version be at least a little visible on the later shot?

I dunno, they are similar, but I'm not sure it's anything more than that. Be nice to get some better ear pix - or dna or fingerprints. They don't fingerprint staff who might handle evidence through the course of their employment?

Surely they had his fingerprints just to eliminate his when his car was found?

ETA forehead wrinkles are following different lines too. The ones between his eyebrows have vanished in the later shots.
Could be botox I guess ...

To me, the head size is different. If you look at where the forehead starts up to the very top of his head, the forehead is longer in the second pic than the one in the first pic of that guy. I don't think it's the same guy.

Yeah haha why the fuck were people looking for nuanced differences when the whole article was that the guy had been ruled out as the possible missing person?

I was going to say. They even had to take my fingerprints to become a Notary. No way do Attorneys not have fingerprints on file somewhere.

I didn't read that part when I first posted. Later, after someone mentioned the article was super old, I realized he had already been ruled out...long ago. I felt like a dur-da-dur

Guess I missed it. When I clicked on the thread, it went to the picture posted and I saw people commenting about whether they thought it was him or not, and I put in my two cents. Hey, everyone misses stuff sometimes :)

New investigator takes over 13-year-old Gricar case. Could there be a break?

After nearly a decade chasing false leads - and absorbing the overtime pay each required - the 11-person department has returned to the usual grind of domestics and drug busts. The scant pieces of evidence Gricar left behind have been passed along. Tips are forwarded to the State Police’s Troop G major case team.

“Currently, the case is classified as a missing person,” said Trooper David McGarvey, in the formal tone of a public-facing spokesman. “Due to the nature of the investigation, specific details pertaining to the case will not be released.”
The article gives a comprehensive summary of the whole case. I really don't think they have anything new.
