Jesse Joe Backous, 22, Alexandria, died Aug. 28, 2011, at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis after a sudden illness surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born Jan. 12, 1989, in Anderson, the son of Daniel J. Backous and Dawn (Burton) Backous, and resided in the Anderson-Alexandria area all of his lifetime.
Jesse was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, Class of 2007. He had worked at Cox Supermarket of Alexandria for several years and more recently for DownLite Co. in Middletown. Wherever Jesse was, his purpose was to put a smile on people?s faces. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a ?frustrated bowler.? He loved his family and wide circle of friends, who will always remember Jesse as a fighter that bravely faced every challenge that his illness threw at him.
Survivors include his parents, Dan and Dawn Backous of Alexandria; two brothers, Steven Backous (Crystal Kendall) of Alexandria, and Billy Backous of Alexandria; paternal grandparents, Pat and Paul Backous of Anderson; maternal ?Nana,? Cindy Burton of Anderson; maternal great-grandmother, Naomi Sutton of Anderson; two aunts, Gayla ?Aunt G? (David) Ables of Alexandria, and Terri (Kevin) Schwinn of Illinois; uncle, Rick (Lori) Backous of Kentucky; first cousins, Kyle and Laura Schwinn, Chris Moore, Savannah (Brock) Cooper; plus many extended cousins and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Summer Backous; maternal papaw, Steve Burton; and aunt, ?Twig? Haskett.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Michael Deutsch, Alexandria First Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation will follow the services
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Indianapolis Ronald McDonald House through the funeral home.
In tribute to Jesse?s lifestyle, the family strongly urges everyone who attends to wear casual dress only.
