Our Friend was given to us on April 1, 1988 and then was taken from us on August 18, 2011 by a car accident only 2 minutes from his home in the early morning hours.

PERQUIMANS — A 23-year-old Texas man who worked for a contractor at the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City was killed when the vehicle he was driving at a high rate of speed ran off Muddy Creek Road early this morning and flipped eight times, authorities said.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper J.F. Bray said the body of Alvin R. Wilkins Jr. was found by a nurse traveling to work around 6 a.m. on the rural Perquimans County road.
Wilkins was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was thrown from the vehicle, the trooper said.
Police said Wilkins moved to the area about eight months ago, lived on Muddy Creek Road, and worked for a contractor on the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City.
Wilkins apparently got off work at midnight and was traveling home when the accident occurred.
Trooper Bray said the 2005 Kia SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when Wilkins lost control and rolled the vehicle eight times before coming to rest in the front yard of a residence.Wilkins was alone at the time of the crash.
Members of the Perquimans EMS, Durants Neck Fire Department, and Perquimans County Sheriff’s Department also responded.
    The crash is under investigation.

I wonder if that "only 2 minutes from his home" statement took his high rate of speed into consideration.
