The chilling last moments of an 8-year-old boy happily leaving day camp were caught on surveillance video.

The boy from Brooklyn walked alone with his arms outstretched as if he didn't have a care in the world. He was about to meet up with his parents, but was going in the wrong direction.

The savage kidnapping and murder of Leiby Kletzky is now shocking the nation.

A surveillance camera caught another haunting image as cops say a 35-year-old man named Levi Aron lured the lost boy into his car. The child was later found dismembered, his remains inside a red suitcase that had been tossed into a dumpster.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said at a press conference, "There is no indication at this time that the victim was known by the suspect previously. It was just happenstance and the terrible fate for this young boy."

The unthinkable murder brings back memories of another kidnapping caught on tape. Carlie Brucia, an 11-year old Florida girl was pulled away by a stranger in a parking lot in 2004. Brucia was raped and murdered. Joseph Smith was sentenced to death for the crime.

And the last moments of little Sandra Cantu's life were also caught on tape. She was seen happily skipping across the street in 2009. Her body was later found stuffed in a suitcase floating in a pond. Melissa Huckaby was later sentenced to life in prison.

Safety advocate Steve Kardian says every child should know how to fight off a stranger. He showed INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent how with the help of 10-year-old Zach.

"A child should never approach a stranger and ask for directions. Get to someone in authority. Someone wearing a police uniform, a fire uniform, a paramedic uniform," said Kardian.

Leiby Kletzky's first time walking the busy city streets by himself ended in tragedy. Now an entire community grieves for a little boy lost.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The ex-wife of the man accused of murdering and dismembering an 8-year old boy in New York told FOX13 she was in "utter disbelief" when she found out about the crime.

NYPD Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced Wednesday that 35-year-old Levi Aron had been arrested after the remains of the missing boy were discovered inside the his refrigerator. Aron was taken into custody early Wednesday morning by detectives who had been looking for 8-year old Leibby Kletzky since Monday. Kelly said Aron made statements implicating himself in the boy's death. Kelley stated at a Wednesday news conference that "remains believed to be those of the missing boy were found by detectives in a refrigerator, in the suspect's third floor attic apartment and in a dumpster on 20th street between 4th and 5th avenues in Brooklyn, wrapped in black plastic garbage bags inside of a red suitcase."

34-year old Debbie Aron of Memphis told FOX13 that she married Levi in March 2006 after they met on a Jewish dating website, and he moved to Memphis to be with her. They divorced one year later due to irreconcilable differences. The two did not have children together, but Debbie stated that Levi did help her raise her two children from a previous relationship.

She described Levi as quiet, and never showed any red flags of violent behavior. She added that he was a Brooklyn native, and is of the Jewish Orthodox faith. After their divorce, Levi moved back to New York in 2009 to live with his parents. Upon hearing of the allegations against her ex-husband, Debbie said she was in "complete and utter shock, total devastation, completely out of the character of the Levi that I know."

Levi, who was working at a hardware store, allegedly suffocated the victim before chopping him up. Kelly said Aron "panicked" when he saw the police response to find the missing child, and "that's why he killed the boy."

"We don't know precisely the communication between the man and the boy," Kelly added.

Kelly said Aron confessed to the murder and told cops what had happened after they asked him about the boy. Formal charges are still pending.

The "angelic" boy disappeared Monday afternoon after getting lost while walking alone for the first time from his day camp and following a man down a busy street, sparking a massive search.

Kletzky -- who usually took the bus -- was allowed to leave camp on foot so he could meet his mom and dad seven blocks away, where they had a doctor's appointment.

The couple even took special pains to repeatedly go over the boy's walking route with him, a friend said.

But when the boy "appeared lost," he asked Aron for directions -- sealing "a terrible fate for the boy," Kelly said.

I never heard he was autistic. I even got the paper this working at work and read the article and don't remember them mentioning autistic. I was just at the gym and it was the first news story and they didn't mention it either.
I did read that his parents didn't want him to walk home alone but he really insisted so they agreed to meet halfway. Approx 7blocks I think. The only problem Is that he began to walk in the wrong direction.
