    Re: just movie talk...

So I saw Where the Wild Things Are and I would have to say it was meh. Visually gorgeous but the soundtrack would have been better sans vocals (much as I love Karen O) and the dialogue was pretentious and irritating. Definitely not a movie kids would really get at all and it was way too long. Too many scenes were sort of lovingly continued because Jonze was happy with the shot. What's funny is it really reminded me of all the reasons I dislike David Eggers, as he is incapable of what Hemingway called 'killing your babies', that is, acknowledging that repetition of really good ideas is superfluous and winds up bogging everything down.

Plus I thought the kid was way too young model looking. If you cut about half an hour and some of the more horrible 'esoteric' hipster dialogue, it would have been great. But at first I felt like I was watching Spike Jonze explain why he felt left out by his hipster girlfriend the first semester of college at NYU via the narrative of a lost childhood.

i heard that movie wasnt as great as everything thought it was going to be.
i think i might be the only person of my generation that didnt even like the book.

ugh. i rented Drag me to Hell on friday.

                                    worst.
                                        movie.
                                            ever.

    ever.

i think it was written by a sleepy, cowardly 11 year old on drugs.

It was a fun movie and I wish Raimi would make more movies like that than another Spiderman.

well if they were trying to make a comedy, that shit worked.
I hated the bank loan premise - my bf works at a bank and we were like, um thats not the way it works at all - from the interpersonal relationships to the whole loan application thing. then when she spit out blood, everyone's reactions where so unrealistic. no one look shocked.  the end was hilarious and almost redeemed the movie - except for just how badly unspooky it was.
I wanted to be kinda freaked out for halloween and that was the wrong choice.

Yeah, Drag Me To Hell was supposed to be a comedy/ camp horror.  You have to look at his earlier work (Evil Dead, really) to understand what's so awesome about Raimi.  This is his forte.  He's not in the business of making movies that scare you.  More like movies that make you think "wtf?? lolololol eeewwwww"

I thought this movie was excellent.

Nah.  "Guy defense" is for pussies.

But, trust.  If you didn't like this movie, something must have happened.   Did you use the bathroom through the middle at all?  Maybe too much soda?  Did you get enough sleep the night before?  Were you texting??

we were drinking.  i have to say, i guess we were "entertained" because we watched it all the way through instead of falling asleep or jumping do "it" before the movie ended.

I agree with all of this.
I had my "wtf lol ewww" moment everytime someone got vomit in someone elses mouth.
Which happened quite a few times.

We have to get the scientists involved now.  I know your sensibilities must've been momentarily hijacked, along with those of your boyfriend.  There's a common factor.  We will get to the bottom of this!
