The Lafayette Police Department arrested and charged Charlene Leonard, 20, who allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old female from Breaux Bridge early this morning, with attempted second-degree murder.
Around 2:30 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to the 1500 block of North University Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the victim had been stabbed twice, once in the chest and once in the arm. The victim was transported to an area hospital and remains in stable condition.
The incident is believed to have begun at a downtown bar where the two women were involved in a verbal altercation. Police say the two women later relocated to the 1500 block of North University and engaged in an altercation, when the suspect produced a knife. The case remains under investigation.
