Man jumps off 11th story ledge into hotel atrium in front of a crowd

I've been scouring the San Antonio news Web sites for this story and haven't found anything yet, but I just wanted to share a semi-personal story that happened today.

My mom travels a lot for her work, and is currently in San Antonio, Texas, for a meeting.  She and hundreds of coworkers are staying at one of the Hyatts with a really nice atrium.  So this morning, before her meeting started, her and a few coworkers were eating muffins in the atrium outside of the conference room when they heard a woman scream and a loud THUD shortly after.  She said that two of her coworkers ran to check his vitals, but he was obviously dead on impact and his body was completely mangled from the fall.

I don't have any information besides the stuff above, but who wants to start the sleuthing?

I've had a quick look but can't find much.  Hotels are notorious for covering up stuff like this..

Yeah, my mom is completely freaked out.  Needless to say she told me she loved me like three times during the conversation.

Hopefully there will be something in the news about it tomorrow.  That doesn't just happen in front of a huge crowd every day...or does it?

I think it might be the Hyatt Regency San Antonio - the other two don't look like they have atriums.  This hotel even has a suite called the Atrium Suite.

has anyone every seen that movie?
where Matt Dillion pushes his pregnant girlfriend through one of those things?
that movie came out like in the 80's or 90's any way.
that would be crazy to see something like that.

Man jumps to his death from 11th floor of hotel

A man died this afternoon when he leaped from the 11th floor of a downtown hotel building, landing in an interior atrium, police said.

Authorities did not release the man's name, but officials said he's in his 50s.

Police are calling the death an apparent suicide. The San Antonio Express-News does not typically report on suicides unless the circumstances surrounding the deaths are public.

A witness told police he saw the man jump around noon from the 11th floor of the Hyatt Regency San Antonio at 123 Losoya St., officials said. He landed on a floor just below the lobby level, which is an enclosed atrium that faces the San Antonio River.

A detective said tourists were mingling throughout the hotel when the man jumped. Not a registered guest at the hotel, the man died at the scene, officials said.

haha to me that movie seems really old.
i cant imagine seeing someone do that.
and why would they want to do that in such a public place.

I'm in Sydney and I work for a massive telecommunications company - we have 6500 people in my building alone.  I don't do much obviously but I am meant to be in finance :P
