HUNTINGTON BEACH – A 65-year-old woman who hit her fiance with a vehicle and, police allege, tried to run over officers has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence, court and police officials said.
Maureen Geddie of Buena Park is charged with six felony counts and one misdemeanor and is set to be arraigned Aug. 2, superior court records show.
Geddie had an argument with her fiance in the beach parking lot at Pacific Coast Highway and Sixth Street about 7:45 p.m. Friday, according to a Huntington Beach police report. She got into her car, backed it up and struck her fiance knocking him to the ground, according to the report.
As he started to get up, she moved the car forward and struck him again, knocking him to the ground, according to the police report. She attempted to back over him when people nearby pulled him out of the way, the report said.
The fiance, a 60-year-old man from Buena Park, received minor injuries and was not hospitalized, the police said. Police reports did not name him.
The car left the parking lot and was at a red light on PCH and Sixth when several police officers on foot approached. The driver ran the red light and attempted to run over the officers, who jumped out of the way, the report said.
Two officers in a patrol car got behind her car and there was a short vehicle pursuit. The driver ran another red light at PCH and First Street before colliding with another vehicle, the report said.
Geddie's car became stuck in traffic at Huntington Street and PCH and she surrendered to the police. She was booked at the city jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police reports.
