UPPER DARBY — Police have charged two brothers with criminal attempt to commit homicide for allegedly tossing three Molotov cocktails at a house to get the attention of a woman inside.
Sinuhe Schultz, 19, and Miguel Schultz, 17, of the first block of Drexel Avenue, Lansdowne, were jailed for the June 23 incident on the first block of Houston Road.
“Apparently, the older brother had contact with a woman on Facebook and was trying to date her and she spurned his advances,” police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “We’ve charged the 17-year-old as an adult due to the seriousness of the crime.”
According to Chitwood, police and the firefighters responded to the site for a fire investigation and determined three incendiary devices were used against the house occupied by two women.
“Neighbors reported hearing a loud bang and seeing two young males running down the driveway,” Chitwood said, noting the brothers were developed as suspects and interviewed noting both males confessed to their involvement.
According to the affidavit, Sinuhe admitted he constructed three Molotov cocktails using glass bottles, gasoline, rags and WD-40 and throwing one at the second-floor bedroom window of the residence.
“He observed the bottle hit the air conditioner, shatter and explode upon impact, causing a fire and the flames spread to the house,” Detective Michael Pecko wrote in the affidavit.
Miguel accompanied his brother to the site and admitted throwing one of the bottles at the residence, which “shattered and exploded,” Pecko noted.
“He tried to burn her out,” Chitwood said. “She’s lucky she’s alive.”
The brothers were arraigned on charges of criminal attempt homicide, arson, possessing instruments of crime and conspiracy, two counts of aggravated assault and terroristic threats and six counts of causing or risking catastrophe and reckless endangerment and jailed pending a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Christopher Mattox.
