    Memorial Songs

We've all seen the memorial tribute videos on YouTube, and maybe made one or two ourselves. What really adds to the emotion of the video is the song that plays along with the photos.

What are some good memorial songs?
What are some songs that remind you of those you've lost/love?

    I personally really like;
    "Forever Young" by Youth Group
"A Falling Through" by Ray Lamontagne

    Quiet Riot Thunderbird

    Hello you
    yes it's me
    You can't come back
    Your flyin' free
    You think you found
    Everything that you need
    Fly away, fly away
    To your new home
    Across the seas
    Oh leave your nest
Oh baby leave the best thing
    That you've been
    Whoa, whoa, whoa
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
Fly on, spread your wings to the sky
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
    On your own
    And I'm alone
    In the shadow
    Of what we done
And I can't help but think
    That someday
    You'll be back home (whoa)
    Fly away, fly away
    To your new home
    Across the bay
    And give your best
Ooh baby leave the best thing
    That you've been
    Oh, oh, oh
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
Fly on, spread your wings to the sky
Fly on, Thunderbird fly (fly on)
    (Ah, ah, ah, ah)
(Ah, ah, ah, ah ah ah ah)
    When all is said
    All is done
    Still I live
    And carry on
    Don't look back
    But think of me
    We'll meet again
    Fly away (oh)
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
Fly on, spread your wings to the sky
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
    Fly on, Thunderbird fly
    You've got fly away
Fly on, spread your wings to the sky
    On to the sky
    Fly on Thunderbird...
    Fly!

I was completely thrown off by the picture in the video. I was expecting some kind of loud heavy metal song...not even close, haha. I obviously need to broaden my music tastes.

    Re: Memorial Songs

This one for sure. It was written for my all time favorite artist. Mr. Marvin Gaye.

RIP Marvin. You are truly missed.

    Since you've been away
    I've been down and lonely
    Since you've been away
    I've been thinking of you
    Trying to understand
    The reason you left me
    What were you going through?

    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
    Ooh ooh
    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns

    As I look around
I see things that remind me
    Just to see you smile
Made my heart fill with joy
    I'll still recall
All those dreams we shared together
Where did you run to, boy?

    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
    Ooh ooh
    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns

    Sometimes I've wondered
    I didn't understand
Just where you were trying to go
    Only you knew the plan
And I tried to be there
But you wouldn't let me in

But now you've gone away boy
    I feel so broken hearted
I knew the day we started
That we were meant to be
    If only you'd let me!
    I've cried so many tears
Gotta face now all my fears
    We let time slip away
    I need you boy
    Here today!

There was so much you gave me
    To my heart
    To my soul
There was so much of your dreams
    That were never told
    You had so much hope
    For a brighter day
    Why were you my flower
    Plucked away

    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns
    Ooh ooh
    I'm missing you
Tell me why the road turns

    Re: Memorial Songs

Four songs that mean so much to me:
    1. My Girl by The Temptations was played at my friends funeral back in 1997 after she was hit by a car and killed.
    2. Everytime You Cry by Human Nature and John Farnham was played at my cousins funeral He died of a drug overdose, first time ever trying drugs  :|
    3. Time of your Life by Green Day was also played at my cousins funeral
    4. Have I told you lately by Van Morrison was played at my stepmums funeral. She suffered a short bout of cancer and this was her favorite song.

One of my friends died when he was 18 and he planned his own funeral.  He had Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel played when his coffin was carried into the church and These Are the Days of Our Lives by Queen played when his coffin was carried out of the church.  10 years later and I still can't listen to either song.

My favourite is "I'll be missing you" by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans. There is a German song which is really amazing: "Abschied nehmen" by Xavier Naidoo. I cry everytime I hear it.

    Re: Memorial Songs

One of my best friends was gunned down by the police last year...his ring tone was "behind blue eyes"  at his funeral we were in our car blasting the song as we drove to the grave site...over and over again...I still bawl when I hear it...and if I happen to stumble on it..I have to listen to it play all the way through or I feel like I'm being disrespectful. I also used this song for my boy bff Timmys ring tone...and he was later charged with his cousins murder...

So Limp Bizkits Behind blue eyes just fcks me up bad. I associate it with the two.

and Haleys comet or what ever it's called...cus it was Brian's favorite song...

    Re: Memorial Songs

When my uncle Frank passed a few weeks ago I realized I have no reason to go up north to the mountains where he lives anymore- it's not exactly a vacation getaway type place and he gave us someplace to go to. I have so many memories wrapped up in his house, his town- to know that the house will be sold and he won't be around to show me the sights anymore just rips my heart out. Nothing will be the same. I had an old CD in my truck (Jimmy Eat World from 2001) and one of the songs just made me think of him. I drove around with the song on repeat, blaring and crying like an idiot. It may not make sense for anyone else, but it has meaning for my situation. These are the lyrics.

Jimmy Eat World- Hear You Me

There's no one in town I know
You gave us some place to go.
I never said thank you for that.
I thought I might get one more chance.
What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.

    May angels lead you in.
    Hear you me my friend.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
    May angels lead you in.

So what would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.

    May angels lead you in.
    Hear you me my friend.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
    May angels lead you in.
    May angels lead you in.
    May angels lead you in.

And if you were with me tonight,
I'd sing to you just one more time.
A song for a heart so big,
    god wouldn't let it live.

    May angels lead you in.
    Hear you me my friend.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
    May angels lead you in.
    May angels lead you in.

    Hear you me my friend.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
    May angels lead you in.
    May angels lead you in.

    Re: Memorial Songs

Never Alone by Jim Brickman & Lady Antebellum

    May the angels protect you
    Trouble neglect you
And heaven accept you when it's time to go home
    May you always have plenty
    Your glass never empty
    Know in your belly
    You're never alone

May your tears come from laughing
    You find friends worth having
    With every year passing
    They mean more than gold
May you win but stay humble
    Smile more than grumble
    And know when you stumble
    You're never alone

    Never alone
    Never alone
I'll be in every beat of your heart
    When you face the unknown
    Wherever you fly
    This isn't goodbye
My love will follow you stay with you
    Baby you're never alone

Well, I have to be honest
As much as I want it
I'm not gonna promise the cold winds won't blow
So when hard times have found you
    And your fear surround you
    Wrap my love around you
    You're never alone

    Never alone
    Never alone
I'll be in every beat of your heart
    When you face the unknown
    Wherever you fly
    This isn't goodbye
My love will follow you stay with you
    Baby you're never alone

    May the angels protect you
    Trouble neglect you
And heaven accept you when it's time to go home
And when hard times have found you
    And your fear surround you
    Wrap my love around you
    You're never alone

    Never alone
    Never alone
I'll be in every beat of your heart
    When you face the unknown
    Wherever you fly
    This isn't goodbye
My love will follow you stay with you
    Baby you're never alone
My love will follow you stay with you
    Baby you're never alone.
