I was trying to placate the roommate who is clearly a pussy. A dog that small you can actually just step on, but the chainsaw is a nice touch.  :2huh:
her roomate is a giant pussy.

and yeah  you could totally step on it but i was clearly going for the most dramatic and most entertaining.

Re: Home cleaning and laundry tips

I'm constantly trying to find things to go "green" with...I'm weird I've always recycled and shit.

Things I've found that DO work..

Dryer Sheets-replace with a ball of aluminium foil! and no it won't "catch" onto your laundry and it DOES get rid of static..if you're drying blakets, sheets, or towels toss in an extra one and some tennis balls..Fluffs em up. The alumium ball I've used for over a year now.. Savings galore since I use to use like 6 sheets a load and a box of fabric sheets is how much? and now there's not a  bunch of the damn things floating around my house!

I hate bleach..So I use vinegar..it works to "bleach" whites. Use baking soda to soften your towels like a fabric softner would..

For tiolets..Vinegar! It's an anti bacterial and it rids of soap scum..If you have hard water around your faucets etc soak a washcloth in vinegar and wrap the faucet etc in it...Swear there will be no scum left!

Tubs- Mr Clean Magic eraser and water....If you want an anti bacterial use some vinegar to "windex" the tub.. But the magic eraser makes it so you don't have to scrub at all!

I love my house to smell "clean" all the time...so to freshen the space up I put lemon juice and some hot water in a bottle...You'll be amazed at how even between floor moppings your whole house will smell great!

For dusting things I use a micro fiber washable cloth..it collects the dust instead of disbursing it onto your floor. If you have wood and you don't want it to dry out..One of two things either baby oil or veggie oil..I perfer baby oil..it's not greasy feeling once it's  rubbed in..but the shine remains..and it's feeding your wood!  bonus your table smells great!!

If you have wood floors and they're stained..use steel wool...chemical free and does remove the stain with out damaging the wood! To clean wood floors...a shark vac. Seriously! If you don't have one use some method floor cleaner from target..the shits awesumer!

for windows...I use dish soap to cut through the funk and to give it some shine use newspaper and vinegar in a spray bottle..it really really does work!

I have a family of six and we don't use dishwashers...insane right? not really. I wash by hand as I cook..wipe as I cook...and after dinner everyone rinses their plates..I usually do the dinner dishes with the breakfast dishes the next day..gave time for the pots etc to dry from dinner and save on water cus i'm doing two "loads" at once.

If you have carpets use baking soda to freshen em up. If you have a pet use a rubber glove to wipe off your furniture to remove hair....and if you use small area rugs don't vaccum em...BEAT EM! It actually cleans em better..I even toss some baking soda on mine before their beat down..if you have kids they love beating the crap out of some rugs with a broom..it's old school but I hate dealing with a vaccum..

If you have to wash rugs hose em off in the drive way and hang em..It won't destroy the backing on them like a washer and dryer will.

I have plenty of tips for organization too that are really practical...See I live in a small space by choice..I wanna live my life in my space not cleaning the damn place..and with six people four of them being under the age of 9 I develope or find ways to make that happen.

While keeping it "green" so it's safe for them to be around...nothing like a toddler trying to play in a tiolet with some killer cleaner in it!

My husband really, really wanted the Dyson vacuum cleaner but I balked at the price.  He won and, holy shit, that thing sucks up so much dog hair and dirt!  It was worth every penny.

Baking soda and dish liquid paste.  :)

Demented Doll - I am gonna try the hose on my kitchen rugs tomorrow!  I have to replace them too often because the rubber backing disintegrates.  Thanks for a good tip!

My Shark vacuum does too!  I wanted the Dyson Animal but I just didn't have the $$.

The Shark has 2 settings suction only and beater bar with suction.  It is awesome on my hardwood floors *and* my carpet.

I'd like to have one that sucks up dust and dog hair on my hard floors rather than blows it around.
might be time to just hit it with the SOS pad. Maybe a Magic Eraser would work?

It's the DC14, one of the lower-priced models.  I have hardwood floors and carpeted floors and this one is supposed to be good for both.  There are only two options:  carpets or floors.  Seems to work great, though.  Quiet, too.

Yeah, I'd say SOS pad or even a steel wool sanding pad.

Re: Home cleaning and laundry tips

This isn't quite related but I didn't want to make a whole new thread for my question.

I need to buy a new refrigerator and don't know what kind to get- help! I want a decent one but nothing crazy expensive. I have no idea if it's better to have a top freezer which is what I have now or one of those side to side ones. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences to share?

    Thanks for any help  :-D

The bottom freezer ones are actually the most efficient due to the whole warm air rising/cold air sinking thing. We just got a new fridge in May, a Samsung (didn't know they made fridges) and it is freaking awesome.

    http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04608167000P?vName=Appliances&cN ame=Refrigerators&sName=Single%20Door%20Bottom %20Freezers&sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src= 14110944&ci_sku=04608167000P

This is the one we got only it was on sale so it wasn't so expensive.

I want one of these, just because it's cool looking. It has a freezer for things you use often and one for things you don't.
