I'm an asshole. I just went to one of the fb pages for the mcstays, and my first thought was *my, what unattractive children.*

Wow so it looks like it is them.

Sources on Thursday night confirmed to our sister station in San Diego that skeletal remains found in the Mojave Desert are those of Joseph and Summer McStay. It's unknown if the other two bodies are those of their two children.
On home video, the McStay family seemed to be living the American dream: a husband, wife, and two little boys riding bikes outside their newly renovated home in suburban San Diego.
But in February 2010, all four disappeared without a trace. Joseph McStay, 40, his 43-year-old wife Summer and their sons, 4-year-old Gianni and 3-year-old Joey, simply vanished.
they didn't McLeave. They McDied.

I bet there's a whole bunch of people who are feeling pretty stupid right now. The people who 'definitely' saw them in Mexico, Rick Baker, the investigators who said they left voluntarily....
I've made an article - if the third and fourth bodies turn out to not be the kids, I will update it.
Apparently Rick Baker has withdrawn his book from sale.

Rick Baker's Blog is gone too. What an asshole.Patrick McStay: A Family member met with detectives with the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department and they informed them that it was Joey and Summer. How they determined it I was not told. However I do know that SB got the case files from the SDSD yesterday or today (that would have been Tuesday or Wednesday). So they would have the necessary information to ID Joey and Summer.
A depressing but probably predictable ending to this story. McSad.
Whoa. Honestly, not at all how I expected this to end. I thought for sure they left willingly. However, maybe they did leave willingly but still encountered what they were running from. A final autopsy will hopefully shed light on how long after they disappeared that their deaths occurred.
Don't like what I have to say? I respect that. Go fuck yourself.
As someone who really didn't follow this case, my first question is "why?"
So this link has some observations. So well planned and financially motivated?

Mummification is a real possibility, but after a couple of years I would think that insect activity etc., would be of no use. There might be stomach contents, I suppose and if they found popcorn, one might assume that death was fairly quick after they disappeared. But my money is on not much TOD info.
Wow! I can't believe I missed all this yesterday. I was so wrapped up in the disembodied leg/pit bull thread that I didn't even check out the missing people threads!
I never had a strong opinion on what happened to them, although I never thought it was witness protection (it would have been the sloppiest transition into witness protection EVER).
It's funny you should say that ... I had checked Baker's blog about a week ago (I didn't realize he had reposted a bunch of stuff after previously wiping it all), and some of the comments were just blowing my mind. "We deserve answers!!" and "They owe us the truth after all we've been through!!" I'm thinking, who the fuck owes you answers, people? You think that just because you've been obsessively following a missing persons case that you're owed something? Fucking nuts. I hope those folks are happy that those four corpses might give them their precious "answers."
Where are these pics you speak of?
Yep, ain't nutttin there no mo.
I'm surprised they identified them that fast and a little dubious to be honest, unless they found wallets or something.
Bodies in the desert get ravaged by animals and MorbidT will know way more about this but I'm pretty sure the temperature and dryness creates the exact opposite of a mummy effect.
I'm not at all surprised by this outcome. I assumed from the beginning that they were meth manufacturers. The paranoia, etc. That racist comment about drug cartels probably isn't that far off from the truth.
Whoa, this wasn't the ending I was expecting either. So, some dude off roading found the mass grave? That's weird...I'm not sure I would have even paid attention. Very sad though.
(you guys killed it with the puns too)
