Russell Bohling - 18 years old - Missing since 3rd March 2010

Fears grow for missing Bishop Burton student

A vulnerable student whose car was found abandoned at an East Coast beauty spot may have met someone there and left with them, his father has told the Mail.

The parents of missing Bishop Burton College student Russell Bohling yesterday visited the spot where the 18-year-old's green Renault Clio was found, at the RSPB nature reserve car park at Bempton Cliffs, near Bridlington.

Roger and Christine Bohling have not seen their son since he left their West Ella home at 8am on Tuesday morning for college.

The second year construction student never arrived.

The car he was driving was found on Wednesday, displaying a parking ticket bought on Tuesday morning.

The student, who has a speech and language disorder, had been upbeat when he left home.

His father said: "My conclusion is that he unusually skipped college and went to a place he would not otherwise have known because it was a pre-arranged meeting with someone.

"I believe he then left in that person's car. I believe it's someone he trusts or knows well because he's not an adventurous boy.

"When he parked at Bempton he bought a pay and display ticket for the day. I think he intended returning to the car to come home.

"Obviously I think something serious has happened."

Mr Bohling, who works for East Riding Council, said his son's condition may have made him vulnerable.

"He would not challenge someone if they said 'let's do this now'. He's not confident enough to argue, he would probably say OK. That's why he's vulnerable."

Mr Bohling spoke of the anguish the family are going through along with their other sons Nigel, 23, and Andrew, 21.

He said: "All we want is for Russell to come home."

A police spokesman said extensive air and sea searches are continuing.

Russell is the second student to go missing from Bishop Burton College in less than a week.

Jonathan Havron, who is studying uniformed services, has not been seen since the early hours of last Saturday morning after a night out in York.

Police divers have been scouring the River Ouse near to where he was last seen.

    Mr Havron, 18, of Huntington,

had a 100 per cent attendance record at college and principal of Janet Dawson said his disappearance is "out-of-character".

    * Anyone with information about Mr Bohling's disappearance is asked to call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222.

North Yorkshire Police, who are investigating Mr Havron's disappearance, can be contacted on 0845 6060247.

Wow, I really hope they find him well.
I hate to hear about stories like this, when someone takes advantage of a young kid with disabilities. It always makes me want to tell them to pick on someone their own size (here, not in the literal sense.)

A body recovered from the River Foss in York is that of missing city teenager Jonathan Havron, North Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

The 18-year-old student from Huntington was last seen leaving the Lowther pub at 0135 GMT on 27 February.

His body was recovered from the River Foss on Wednesday.

North Yorkshire Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance. A spokesman said their thoughts were with his family.

Searches had been carried out for Mr Havron, a student at Bishop Burton College in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

His family described him as a "happy student" and said his disappearance was "extremely unusual".

Police said they were still trying to establish how he came to be in the river, and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Re: Russell Bohling - 18 years old - Missing since 3rd March 2010

The parents of a teenage student who disappeared two months ago believe he has been killed over a £300,000 inheritance.

Russell Bohling, 18, was about to be given a house and cash by his parents to give him 'independence' and help him start his own company, but the teenager disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

The college student, who is described as 'vulnerable' due to a speech disorder, drove to a cliff top nature reserve on the East Yorkshire coast and paid for a day's parking. A massive search involving police, the coastguard, an underwater search unit and the force helicopter failed to find any clues.

Parents Roger and Christine Bohling insist their son would not have killed himself or run away and was 'excited' three days earlier when he discussed with his father plans to use the inheritance to set up a business. The couple said he was 'very happy with his studies and life.'

They fear he may have been killed in a failed abduction attempt linked to the gift he was about to receive, or gone to the beauty spot to meet someone he knew.

Humberside Police are calling in outside help to assess whether to treat Russell's disappearance as murder.

They have also found nothing to indicate suicidal tendencies and would have 'expected to find a body by now' had he fallen from Bempton Cliffs, near Flamborough Head, where his car was parked.

His car's satellite navigation system showed he had previously driven to York, Bridlington and Bradford and detectives have been investigating whether these journeys could shed light on his disappearance.

Russell left his Hull home on Tuesday March 2 to travel to Bishop Burton College, where he was doing a bricklaying course. The student, who had a near perfect attendance record, failed to show for any lessons that day, and his car was found 45 miles away at the cliff reserve.

Mr and Mrs Bohling called a press conference to publicly reveal their fears that Russell had been murdered. Retired civil servant Mr Bohling, 57, said: 'We believe that he met someone he knew and trusted that morning and subsequently lost his life, probably having been murdered by that person.

'Russell deserved to live life to the full and the person responsible for taking him from all those who loved him must be found.

'Someone knows, or strongly suspects, who that person is and we beg you to do the right thing by Russell and make the identity of that person known to the police. Please don't let Russell down.'

Mr Bohling said yesterday he bought three similar properties 15 years ago for Russell and brothers Nigel, 23, and Andrew, 22, which they would all have access to after Russell turned 18. They were all due to receive the house and cash worth a total of £300,000 in the coming months.

He said: 'They could sell them, rent them or live in them. I can't believe he would either leave home or kill himself. Just days before he had been talking in very upbeat manner about the future and his plans to run a company. He had plenty to live for and was about to receive a house and achieve independence.

'Surely if he was just going to run away he would have waited until he got his inheritance?

'I told the boys it would be best to keep the inheritance secret because I didn't want people, you used to call them gold diggers, asking them for money.

'It's possible Russell may have told somebody because it's a big secret for an 18-year-old to keep, but it would have had to have been someone close to him. He had a small circle of very close friends.'

Chief Superintendent Paul Davison, who is heading the inquiry, said: 'This case is a lot more complex than something like a normal murder inquiry. We have to keep a completely open mind.

'There is absolutely nothing to go on other than Russell's car, the finger prints on the parking ticket and the fact he looked a little smarter when he left for college that morning. I am bringing in help to provide an objective perspective.'

He said the case could be upgraded and handed over to a Major Investigation Team.

The father of missing student Russell Bohling has admitted possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.

Roger Bohling pleaded guilty to 11 counts of possessing indecent images of children and animals at Beverley Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The 484 images of children as young as nine were discovered when police took computers and discs from his houses in West Ella and Ravenscar, in North Yorkshire, on March 23.

The computers were taken as officers looked for clues into 18-year-old Russell's disappearance almost six months ago.

Russell Bohling inquest: Missing Hull student 'died in seas'

    Published 6 December 2019

Russell Bohling, 18, went missing on 2 March 2010 and his body has never been found

A coroner said he believed a man who disappeared nine years ago "somehow died in the sea" off the East Yorkshire coast.

Russell Bohling, 18, from West Ella, near Hull, went missing on 2 March 2010.

His body has never been found but his car was later discovered at Bempton Cliffs car park, near Bridlington.

Assistant coroner David Rosenberg ruled out suicide and gave a narrative verdict at the inquest in Hull.

Mr Rosenberg said he thought Mr Bohling died on the day he went missing and "based on the submissions of the police that no body has been found, I believe somehow he died in the sea at Bempton Cliffs.

"We do not know how Russell came to die."

Mr Bohling had communication issues but was doing well as a student at Bishop Burton College on a brick-laying course, Mr Rosenberg said.

"Russell was enjoying life, enjoying independence, He had started to fly," he told the inquest.

Roger Bohling said his son was "prone to asthma" for which he had been admitted into hospital

There was not enough evidence to show whether he might have tripped and fallen or suffered an asthma attack after going in to an RAF bunker, he added.

It is known Mr Bohling had looked for information about the bunker at Bempton.

Mr Rosenberg told Mr Bohling's family "the thought of what happened to Russell will haunt you for the rest of your lives."

His father Roger Bohling, speaking after the inquest, said: "He wasn't seen, nobody saw him so there's no reason to believe he was ever on the cliff top.

"I believe he could've gone into the bunker at Bempton and had a massive asthma attack."

This is a vid of the bunker. The guys in this comment on how dusty the air is in there, so I guess it's kind of plausible. I don't understand why they think an asthma attack made him disappear though, especially when his dad seems so be saying he was never on the clifftop.

This is some drone footage of the cliffs

Okay, well now that I've watched the rest of the drone guy's vids, I wouldn't be surprised if he's still down there somewhere in the bunker
