i searched for this & couldn't find it anywhere, so sorry if there's already a topic.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Authorities say a baby and a toddler have found bound, gagged and left on a bedroom floor in Southern California, and the childrens' father is being investigated for attempted murder and torture in the case.

Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Steve Brown says deputies responded to the home in the Indian Hills area Friday on a report of a family disturbance.

Brown says the two girls, ages 1 1/2 and 18 weeks, also had visible injuries on their faces and heads.

Their father, 23-year-old Jeremiah Scott, fled before deputies arrived but was later found in the neighborhood and arrested.

Brown says the babies' injuries did not appear to be life threatening and they were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Scott is being held on $1 million bail.

He bound 18 week old baby? Can they even move other than rolling over maybe?

I say someone does the same to him.

People are so quick to send all these people to jail, and I think, in about 50% of cases... if they would just do the exact same thing to these people, and commit their own crimes on THEM, they MIGHT just get it!

Why send them to a cell, to be fed 3x a day, sleep good at night, and give them recreational time? Prison is a joke, to me.

Sometimes you just want to throw protocol and procedure out the window. Sometimes you just want to throw the right to a fair and speedy trial right out the window. Sometimes you want to get right to the sentencing and punishment part of a case. This is one of those cases. Jeremiah Scott tortured his two young daughters says police. The two girls, ages 1 ½ and 18 weeks were found bound, gagged, and abandoned on a bedroom floor in their home.

Authorities responded to a report of a family disturbance when the two small children were found. Jeremiah Scott, a newly updated reason to bring back public executions, had fled the scene before authorities arrived but he was found later in the neighborhood and arrested.

The two children were taken to a local hospital. They had sustained injuries to the face and head but are expected to make a full recovery. At this point in the investigation no motive has been determined as to why Jeremiah Scott tortured his two young daughters.

It’s not like it’s relevant to any decent person what the motive is. Nothing a 1 year old or an infant could do would warrant such behavior. Obviously Jeremiah Scott is a sick and deranged person and deserves the full punishment that a crime like this would bring.

My fear is that a defense lawyer will use an insanity plea to get Jeremiah Scott off, and our politically correct society will have pity on him for being mentally ill. Heck who knows, he may even receive custody of the two young girls. He did one thing right; Jeremiah Scott tortured his daughters in California. Anything can happen in California.

Jeremiah Scott is currently being held on $1 million dollars bail for the attempted murder and torture of his two young daughters. With any luck, Scott will never see daylight again and his two young daughters will have been too young to remember the horrific act perpetrated by their father against them.

Are insanity defenses often successful?
No, despite public perceptions to the contrary. One eight-state study of criminal cases in the early 1990s concluded that less than one percent of defendants pleaded insanity and, of them, only a quarter won aquittals.

"In the real world, it just doesn't happen," said Maryland Attorney General Joseph Curran, who as lieutenant governor in 1983 chaired a task force that helped tighten that state's insanity defense.

Then why are they controversial?
Critics argue that some defendants misuse it, effectively faking insanity to win acquittals or less severe convictions. And often the trials involving an insanity defense get the most attention because they involve "crimes that are bizarre within themselves," said Baltimore defense attorney Cristina Gutierrez, who has defended a dozen such cases in as many years.

But studies by the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law have concluded that "the overwhelming majority" of defendants acquitted by reason of insanity suffer from schizophrenia or some other mental illness, said Howard Zonana, a Yale University psychiatry professor and the academy's medical director.

Do people acquitted under an insanity defense walk free?
Rarely. In almost all cases, a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity prompts a judge to commit defendants to treatment centers until mental health officials determine they do not pose a danger to anyone. For some, that could be akin to a life sentence. M'Naghten, for instance, died after 20 years in a mental asylum.
