I've seen my dog wag his tail happy about his new treat and snap at a kid who got close.  Wagging his tail all the way.
So like Jack Hanna would say, he seemed happy, but you didn't know what he was thinking.

It was a trick to lure the kid close enough to bite.

Exactly!

Edit to add

Knowing he behaves in this manner I do allow children to hover around him.  Sort of like how they should not have allowed this whale to be near trainers or perform.  The dog is treated well and is healthy and seems happy.  If he showed this behavior all the time I would have to release him back to the wild.

Yea the part that makes me laugh is up above where it says that guy who sneaked in the parks family actually tried to sue Sea World over it.

i was saying the same thing last night. I always think of Ace Ventura when hes trying to find Snowflake at that party in that huge tank of black water and he goes on that tiny platform and the shark jumps out of the water. NO WAY!
nothing is scarier then dark water and enormous animals

Re: Dawn Brancheau (40) was dragged underwater and drowned by a killer whale

Her ponytail/braid

Brancheau, 40, was rubbing Tilikum from a poolside platform when the 12,000-pound creature reached up, grabbed her long braid in its mouth and dragged her underwater
.....
She likely died from multiple traumatic injuries and drowning, the medical examiner's office said.

Horrified visitors who had stuck around after a noontime show watched Tilikum charge through the pool with Brancheau in his jaws.

Tompkins said the whale was lying in front of Brancheau when her braid swung in front of him and he apparently grabbed onto it.

I know nothing about killer whales, so correct me if I'm wrong, BUT If this whale has killed 3 people, doesn't it imply that his temperament is more troublesome? No other whale seem to have such a record. I find it questionable that they'd want to keep breeding him if he's more aggressive than most.

You are right about lennie. I haven't read the book in a grip I got the characters mixed up. But it was mice, rabbits, a puppy and then the girl.

When you watch that video of her with the whale right before the attack, the whale seems pretty "normal"...but then again, I couldn't tell you what normal is.  Still a shame that it ended this way.  One minute you're throwing fish in a "friendly" KILLER whale's mouth, the next you're being pulled under by your ponytail and drowning.

Like PCP said, They eat sharks. Anything that eats something that eats us, Is NOT to be played with!

I think everyone is seeing this whale, then comparing it to their dog or cat. It's not the same, at all.

Any wild animal locked in a cage and forced into doing tricks, is subject to snap with no provocation at all.

Not sure if this was posted, But here's an older video of a whale attacking a trainer(Probably not at seaworld.. Sounds like maybe Australia or NZ):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_yxLXFEo4

I think this was the whales subtle hint to humans (At seaworld):

On an unrelated note, This story has made me start watching a lot of whale and shark videos on Youtube.

They just play with them until they're dead then waste the meat. Naughty orca.

Sharks do.
sharks do not actually "eat" people.  Sharks mistake people for their food - surfers or swimmers for seals.  this is why most people die from shark bites - once they taste us, they realize that we are not their yummy seals.  We are very bland, unlike the salty sea animals they love to eat.
However, i understand what you mean, they are big enough that once they take one bite, it is usually big enough to kill someone or make them bleed to death.

I understand the danger in training whales.  its not ideal that killer whales or wild animals be held in captivity, however, i think more good than bad comes from having these animals.  It is a wonderful learning experience for children and adults.  It leaves an impact on people and hopefully inspires people to do things in their life that can support these animals in the wild and appreciate the Earth.

Its a shame that she died, but im sure that she was educated in the dangers of her career choice.

she's an experienced trainer, probably comfortable with this animal. its not like she's kicking it in the face, she's "playing"
