    Oh Bill

I can hear the ear drums of all the fundies in a 100 mile radius popping, bleeding and them screeching in fear. "LIES, LIES".

My SO and I are trying to figure out the best way to go about teaching our son things. We're both more or less Agnostic. I was brought up with Christian values, she was brought up with differing families of Mormon and Catholic faiths. Do we just tell him that there could have once been a man named Jesus that did a lot of good things for people or do we just say that religion is bunk and science science science? I do think that when used appropriately you can gain some great values from religion, but there are a lot of cons to bringing religion into things. Then there is the whole discussion on death. I'm not sure if I can just tell him straight up when he's little that when you die you go into the ground. The end.

The man called Jesus definitely existed. We don't know a lot of "facts" about him but we do know a traveling preacher/prophet/mystic did exist.

So... I'd tell my kid. Yes. Jesus did exist and he was a good and wise man. Talked about loving your neighbor and being a kind person, not being judgmental...

We don't know everything. People have been trying to explain the world ever since there have been people. Then I'd talk about myths, Jupiter and Apollo, Thor and Odin, Buddha, Mohammed, Jesus, Mary and Joseph...

As for what happens when you die? Well no ones knows do they. Some believe that you go to a wonderful place with golden streets, others think it's just the end, maybe you will come back as an eagle, maybe you exist as long as someone remembers you. We will all find out one day.

At least that's what I'd tell a kid.
"It's the salt water that changes the Rainbow's pretty colors to gray." "And his colors never come back?" "No, once he's been to the sea he's changed forever. The Steelhead can come back home here, stay for the rest of his days, and live among the other Rainbow trout, but he'll always be different because of where he's been." Morsi, Pamela. Garters.

Thor. He will be raised to praise Thor and Odin.

Actually, would you like to come talk to my son in a few years?

i went to catholic school - and it mustve been the best catholic school ever because i have faith without fear. I believe in a loving god that wants you to do good - there is evil out there because man has free will and the choices made is what leads you to fate. I dont know what has lead me here, maybe my own family's veiws? i dont get into "god made the universe" or whatever, i just look at it, that He makes it possible. I take religion has a deeply personal thing. I dont judge or attempt to convince anyone else of my ideas or beliefs. I am very comfortable with my religion and ideals.

Christianity as a whole doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me and there are aspects of it that just annoy the hell out of me to the point that I disregard it. This isn't a religious debate thread so I'm not going there.

Has anyone ever read The God Delusion?

I don't know why it blows my mind that the tiny little rocks that you can zoom on are rocks on another planet. It's just so cool to think that.

I cannot imagine waking up one day unable to stand up or walk. It would be one of the worst things I can possibly imagine. Sadly, millions of people deal with this every moment of every day. New technology advancements may make it possible for many of them to get up and dance very soon.

The "Exoskeleton" wraps completely around the body, allowing a paraplegic to stand and even walk again in some cases. Did you ever think we'd see technology like this? What other medical research has blown your mind in recent years? How close, for example, are we to a cure for Cancer or other major health issues?

UFOs are thought to be stalking the mars "curiosity" rover

Ever since we launched planetary spacecraft beginning in the late 1950s, UFO-spotters have eagerly anticipated our running across alien spaceships flitting around. Rather than just accidentally crossing at a cosmic intersection, the legend is that extraterrestrials are watching us explore the solar system.

Based on the long history of supposed close encounters, I anticipated that not long after NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) landed, folks would begin reporting "strange things" in Martian skies. And sure enough, several reports of UFOs buzzing the Gale crater landing site have surfaced in the past few weeks following the celebrated touchdown of Mars rover Curiosity.

also in the article it says he shot himself in the face, but also refers to it as an accident...

now... was he trying to commit suicide or? cause shooting yourself in the face seems pretty avoidable.

Mee too. I found the one about the lady who had her face ripped off by Travis the chimp to be most interesting.
