I agree with you.  Those things are fucking huge and creepy.  I have an unnatural fear of insects, anyway, for some reason and these things are like my worst nightmare.

I remember when I was in 6th grade, some kid put one in his insect collection he made and the had it in a display case in the fucking hallway.  Even the dead one creeped me out, and I was afraid to go to the bathroom because I had to walk past the damned thing.

When I was a kid, my friends would pick them up and literally chase me with them. Once they saw how creeped out I was by them, it was all over. Fuckers.

I hate the sound cicadas make with you get near them or when you crush them, but I like the sound they make off in the distance in the summer.  The shells they leave behind don't bother me.

FUCK.  I mentioned cicadas when this thread was brand new.  Those are my biggest phobia EVER.  My mom used to chase me with them when I was younger.  Their looks, the noise they make...UGH.  Fuck those things.

i dont know what it is exactly.  its completely irrational.  i hate the way its just....there.  what if something happens with its orbit, and then it comes smashing into earth?  or what if it moves closer or farther away.  it would totally fuck up the tides, and ruin stuff.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but have you heard of The Last Survivors book trilogy? (Book titles: Life As We Knew It, The Dead and the Gone, and This World We Live In.) It's about a meteor striking the moon and knocking it much closer to the Earth's orbit. This increased gravitational pull causes tsunamis, earthquakes, and almost constant volcano activity, which covers the sky in a thick blanket of ash, blotting out the sun and causing a drastic temperature drop. The series is great, but terrifying!

Possums are creepy looking and can surely tear someone up, but I feel bad cuz I hit one a few years ago as it was crossing the street.  It darted out and I ran over it.  She had babies on her back, too.
