No space on my C drive!! (partition)

I was hoping someone could help me with this. My laptop has a 60GB hard drive, but when I reinstalled Windows XP, it automatically partitioned the drive. So now I have a 10GB C drive and a 50GB D drive. But the C drive is CONSTANTLY full. I don't understand.
I have programs there, but it jumped from about 6GB of space taken up to almost 10GB at the moment. I download everything into the D drive (or an external) so that's not the problem. I can't even install Windows updates cause there is no room left. What can I do!?!

Go to tools, then browser history settings.  How much space does it says is allocated?

What method did you use to reinstall?  Is it using the D partition to backup?  I just fixed a PC that had the same problem.

I used a HP disc that I ordered. Reinstalled and there the partition was. I did it all AGAIN and the same thing happened, so I said fuck it, I'll just live with it. But now it's full all the fucking time. I'm really amazed by it, cause I remember when drives were 1GB. Now 10GB isn't enough for the C drive!?!?

Did it give you any sort of option to not have the partition or to resize it?  I would do it again if I were you.  Why did you reinstall in the first place?  Your PC usually has to be super super effed up to resort to that.

Super effed up. And since I have an external drive, anytime something happens, I just start over. I don't lose anything, so fuck it.
In the beginning, I don't remember getting any options. I certainly wouldn't CHOOSE to have the 2 drives. I hate the partition shit.

    WHY IS IT FULL!?!?

try it again and pay attention to your options instead of next, next, next, finish.  See if there is an option for "advanced".

That's why it was effed up, but not why it's full. I have tons of room for all that.
Now is this an intervention, or is someone gonna help me?!

It's full because whoever configured it didn't allow the space the system drive needs.  Why would you not want partitions?  I am pretty confident I am done with Windows on my next machine, but if you're going to run it, all that shit that makes your computer work should absolutely be separate from the shit you want to keep safe.

& ten bucks says I'll regret posting this.  Who wants that action?

I didn't configure it though. Or at least I didn't notice any "do you want to partition this drive? (y/n)" option. I sure as hell would have clicked NO.

I don't want them for this exact reason. I'm running Windows on a 10GB drive that is almost full all the time!! It's slow as fuck!

Ok, where did this 10 gig HD come from?  I thought you had a 60 gig HD with a 10 gig partition?  & I'm pretty sure you admitted earlier in this thread that you did reinstall your stuff.  I am not at all trying to be difficult about this, but I have no access to your machine so it's harder to weigh in.  I don't want to help you break something you own, but would be happy to help fix it.

    PS - Partitions are good!

With the partition, it's a 10GB C drive. And it's ALWAYS full. This sucks.

Ron I had to junk my last computer over that one, and the computer my hubby found at work has the same exact thing...I can't get rid of it for nothing. :(

How big is the other drive (D drive?)? You probably said but I'm too lazy to look back.

So you need someone to tell you how to use the other drive, right? My hard drive is partitioned but I never get into the other part. You should be able to do that.

I use the other drive to save downloads and what not. I need to either combine the drives, or free up space on the C.

A full 50?  Not like 48.8 or something silly like that?  If your drive is 60 and your C: partition is an actual 10, you should lose a few sectors for the partitioning - they should not add up together to a perfect 60.  I'll think about it over the weekend - you don't want any advice I have to offer today.
